Chicago to remain a sanctuary city

Sanctuary cities now number around 340 cities around the country. Nice. Nothing like breaking the law and thumbing their noses at federal law. I hope this will end because it's ridiculous, but I doubt it.

CHICAGO (WLS) --

Mayor Rahm Emanuel emphasized Monday that Chicago is and will remain a sanctuary city for immigrants concerned about their future.

In his first televised interview since becoming president, Trump said he plans to deport or jail 2 to 3 million people who have committed crimes and are in the country illegally. Many are afraid that number could grow.

Nationwide, counseling centers, colleges, and mental health hotlines are seeing a huge uptick in phone calls from people anxious about the election....

...Mayor Rahm Emmanuel told Gomez that Chicago is a sanctuary city and immigrants are safe and secure and supported here.

"People from all faiths, all backgrounds and all parts of the world have beaten their paths to the city of Chicago," Emanuel said.

Chicago has been a sanctuary city since the late 1980s. That means authorities and city officials aren't allowed to ask residents about their immigration status during routine activities, like traffic stops.

I hope this man gets defeated next mayoral election. Maybe then the people of Chicago will have a chance.

We do not need sanctuary cities. These people are here illegally. They need to go back where they came from. They are becoming more than a threat to Americans.

Emanuel needs to try to stop the killing. He is not doing that.

I live in Chicago and I can tell you that none of my friends and acquaintances like that this is a sanctuary city. Furthermore, the mayor does not have the power to say if this will remain a sanctuary city. If federal law does away with them, then he'll have no choice.
