Trump is right: Muslims in Jersey City and elsewhere did

I saw it on the news more than once, and many saw it in person - in Jersey City, Patterson, Brooklyn and elsewhere. They have reported these sightings.

Even the Washington Post reported it (for some reason, a week later on 09/18), saying this:

"In Jersey City, within hours of two jetliners’ plowing into the World Trade Center, law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river."

Sorry, Mitt, but the charge doesn't hold water.

The article, which appeared on page 6, described FBI probes in northern New Jersey after the attacks, saying in the 15th paragraph that “law enforcement authorities detained and questioned a number of people who were allegedly seen celebrating the attacks and holding tailgate-style parties on rooftops while they watched the devastation on the other side of the river.”

Of course, “a number of people” obviously does not equal “thousands” — and “allegedly” indicates there is no video footage or other proof that celebrations actually took place. Recall that Trump claimed he saw this on television — and that it was “well covered at the time.” This newspaper article appeared days later.

The reporters who wrote the story do not recall whether the allegations were ever confirmed. “I certainly do not remember anyone saying that thousands or even hundreds of people were celebrating,” said Serge Kovaleski, one of the reporters. “That was not the case, as best as I can remember.”

Fredrick Kunkle, the other reporter, added: “I specifically visited the Jersey City building and neighborhood where the celebrations were purported to have happened. But I could never verify that report.”

(The right-leaning Powerline blog made a big deal about this sentence–as did Trump later–but as the reporters’ comments make clear, there is no evidence the alleged celebration ever took place.)

Read this so-called "refutation" more carefully. - You will find no refutation at all.

9/11...Muslims taken into custody for celebrating, questioned, and then released? Conveniently, there were no police reports, no video, no nothing. Don't you think, under the circumstances, they would have been held? I saw news reports of Muslims celebrating too, but it was not in New Jersey or anywhere else in the US. It was in the mideast. Face it, Mr Trump is a proven liar, a bully, has high untrustworthy ratings, but Trump supporters defend him and want him for their president. Crazy dangerous crowd.

One could go through all the right wing comments about all of us who admire, respect, and indeed love President Obama. If we piped up every time someone criticized us there would be no end.

Insults to generic supporters of one or the other is one thing, but I believe personal insults (to a specific poster) is the thing which is forbidden, for good reason.

Were you there?? I was. All the "crowds of thousands were random people here and there" in jersey city. Trust me, there were no thousands celebrating in the streets. Everything was shut down tight.
