Tax cuts passed 277-148 and Reid/Omnibus

Posted: Dec 17, 2010

They worked late into the night to pass it. It will cost $858 billion but it gives everyone a "breather" for a while.

Reid pulled the Omnibus bill off the table; i.e., just died. John McCain, Tom Coburn, and Jim DeMint were the reason because they wanted the bill read page per page. Guess Reid didn't want the people to know what was really in the bill.  I had forgotten some of the crap in there but thankfully, the John Murtha Foundation (biggest crook in PA) will not be funded, nor with the Ted Kennedy Institute.

What really irks me is that both Murtha and Kennedy had enough money to fund these items themselves. Why wasn't it in their wills? Because they expected the people to pay for it. It's just like giving $10 million to Arlen Spector for his library earlier this year. Sorry, getting off subject a bit.

Reid said "Congress has a responsibility to spend our money." Is he for real?

Believe it or not, I'm glad Congress will be able to go home (hopefully) for Christmas instead of fighting over this pork. Maybe when they reconvene, more level heads will prevail and they will start thinking with their heads instead of the other end.

Well, I'm not happy about the tax cuts, but oh well. As far as the Omnibus bill, unfortunately I am sure they will fight and fight and it will get passed after the holiday. I doubt if they will think with their heads. I believe they have all forgotten how to do that and only know how to think with the other end! LOL Unfortunately, though they all cry about the deficit, none of them really care. All they care about is spending our money to get what they want. We have let them get away with this for so long, they are quite arrogant about it and don't really care what we think. Maybe I will let them know that I will support the Omnibus bill if they buy me a new car, new furnace and send my kid to college. Oh yeah, they wouldn't want to send my kid to college, he lives legally in this country. What was I thinking!

It's my understanding the Omnibus is dead in the water - Backwards Typist

[ In Reply To ..]
I may be wrong, but they may have to start from scratch and it won't be until after the holidays, which will be the 112th, not the 111th spenders.

I can only hope the new Congress takes time to read the bills and/or debate without fights, but I guess that's an impossible dream with some of the senior members.

Liberals love to spend OUR money.... - if they really cared about...

[ In Reply To ..]
the poor and downtrodden they would contribute some of their own. It is hysterical, really, when you think about it. Case in point, his quote you posted. Yes, he is for real...but a real what I will not say.

Like Bill Gates saying he should be taxed more. That is hysterical! Is anyone stopping Bill from writing the government a check? LOL. Hey, I would be all for passing a law that says Bill Gates Must Pay More Taxes...if he needs a law to compel him to do that...LOL.

News flash...it's not YOUR money. - sm

As for Bill Gates, he donates billions of his own money to charitable causes. He has also enlisted other billionaires to do the same. You can Google for more information, but here is a link that shows a partial list of his very generous donations.

http://www.moneyhowmuch.com/2010/05/if-you-had-bill-gates-money-how-much-of.html

How much of YOUR money have you donated?

WHAT? ! I am not the poster above, but you have been - brainwashed? It IS their money,

[ In Reply To ..]
and the Govt takes it! IT IS OUR MONEY THAT WE EARN. Just because the Govt takes it does not make it NOT our money initially, and it is taken disproportionately anyway. The whole tax system needs changed. I would love to see the flat tax. Whats funny is there are people constantly complaining the rich should pay MORE (I know some of these people), yet the people complaining?? --well, many of them pay NO taxes at all. If some of us pay, we all should.
The money spent comes from liberals, too. - It is not just YOUR money!
[ In Reply To ..]
:p
I don't know see where the poster said... - it was "just" our money.
[ In Reply To ..]
of course there is liberal money in there too. We are well aware that liberals have their hands in all taxpayers' pockets.

If we stopped all social programs today we could probably clear the deficit in a year's time.

How 'bout it? Or, the government stop funding it and you liberals with YOUR money can fund them. How would that be? With Bill Gates and Warren Buffett helping, you guys could handle it.

How 'bout it? :p
It was implied by shouting OUR money! - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you really that naive to believe that conservatives don't have their hands in taxpayers' pockets? Sounds like you need a major reality check!
Wow. You just said if we stopped all social - programs today, SM
[ In Reply To ..]
we could probably clear the deficit in a year\'s time. What a great idea, let\'s stop helping the poorest and weakest in this country. Do you include the programs for children as well? Do you include the elderly as well? What a plan, keep giving the richest of us more and more, and let the poorest of us suffer. (BTW, I do not include the group of people in this country who scam the system for help, who are deadbeats). There are those in this country who work very very hard for very little money who have not had COL raises in years, yet COL keeps getting higher and higher. They need assistance to survive. It is disgraceful to contemplate hurting these people to take care of the deficit.
I hope that during this season particularly, some - people will search their (sm)

hearts and souls and that more people will wind up thinking like you do because I think the points you brought up are right on. Thank you.
I wouldn't assume that these people do not - have giving hearts
[ In Reply To ..]
There are a lot of conservatives who have very generous and giving hearts who also think that the social programs are a mess and something needs to be done. I understand there is a need for some social programs but not to the extent there is. Why can't there be a term like unemployment? A lot of people have found this as a lifestyle. I have family members of my own that live this lifestyle, and they are totally in denial to it. They have the mentality that they are the ones in "need". What they have needed to do for the last 25 years is work and take care of their family, but his knee hurts and he's too jealous of her for her to work. Of course, they bring a slew of kids which the government has supported. How people like them did not get in trouble for neglect I do not understand. So, it is hard to differentiate who are the "deadbeats" and who are legit. They have made statements talking about people needing to help the ones that really need it referring to themselves, so you just never know.

I am where I am by choice. I could have went to college, but I chose not to. I could have not gotten pregnant so young, but I did. At some point in life, we have gotten where we are by choices, some good, some bad.
Not so. Not so at - all
[ In Reply To ..]
Sometimes we as human beings have no control over what happens to us and some situations are not the result of any choice that we have been given.

And, of course, there are many hard-hearted, selfish, judgmental people in the world who like to put people in pigeon holes, just as there are many abusers of social programs and users of people.

You truly need to go back and read the article - about conservatives being
[ In Reply To ..]
the big givers. I actually do really believe this. A lot of people like to give, they just like not having a choice in where the money goes. As far as searching our hearts, I truly do not believe this (social services) is what is right as a way of life. I believe in giving, but I do not believe in taking one's hard-earned money and giving to another without the ok from that person. I do not think that it is fair for myself to have weeks that I really cant even go to the grocery, but yet, there are so many that have them given. I don't think it is right for me to have my tax money (I do pay in by the way) go to provide someone else with housing when I'm struggling too.

I think the hard-hearted goes both ways. If you think I am hard-hearted for wanting to take the money my husband and I earned to provide for our family and not someone elses without being asked, then I guess I am. You would be surprised how many really hard-hearted people there are in the world. I also find it wrong for the ones that do not pay taxes and recieve all of the government supplements to have any kind of decision making of who decides where my money goes, kind of a conflict of interst.

Maybe there are some that are where they are without a choice, but for the most part did have a choice at some point. A lot of them live in denial of that fact.
I too am a taxpayer. There is no one - in my family who
[ In Reply To ..]
has ever even been on unemployment. I consider myself lucky as I have been able to keep a job all these years, though I struggle daily. I do not now and have never thought about needing a choice of whether or not to pay enough taxes to help those less fortunate than myself. I, nor my family, mind a struggle and having a portion of our income go to help those less fortunate, we would choose to do it anyway. I sounds like, because you struggle, given the choice you would say no.

Before you make any decisions on whether democrats or republicans are the most big-hearted, you should take into consideration the rest of the picture...and there is much more to making donations than just being big-hearted.
Don't mind giving to those less fortunate and do - just want to do it on my terms
[ In Reply To ..]
Even though we struggle, I do still like to give. I just don't like the whole government handout process. What we give in taxes has nothing to do with our hearts. For me, I think tax money should go for other things. We have a HUGE deficit right now. That is something that has to be taken care of. It is costing the government loads and loads of money keeping up these social programs. There are lots of giving people that would be glad to help out. I would not dare to say that someone who thought social programs were ok are kind-hearted people. Kind-hearted people are the ones that just go out and give because they want to.

No, it is not because I struggle that I would say no, and I probably wouldn't even say no. It is just that it is expected of us to provide for other people. Where is the heart in that? The point is who decides who is the needy, and why is it okay to take food from ones mouth to put in another that may not been in any worse off shape. There are a lot of "less fortunate" who are doing as well as some of the ones who are considered middle class.

Most people are not going to watch others starve or do without. I actually do enjoy giving. I need to do more. I would rather give to my church who helps a lot of people in the community with food, clothing, utilities, etc. or to organizations like that. I actually am of the belief that when you give through your heart, God will bless you for those acts. We should take care of those in need, but I do not think that is a responsibility of our government.
I disagree that there is anyone receiving - entitlements
[ In Reply To ..]
doing as well as the middle class. I challenge that notion. It simply isn't true.

I can understand wanting to have a choice, if you in fact would want to say no. Even with the church, someone has to decide who is in need, and people take advantage of churches and churches take advantage of people.

It all lies with whether someone is willing to give or not. If someone needs a choice, that obviously means they would want to be able to say no. Most probably would say no to extra taxes and would not give until they had every luxury available to man and donating would benefit their tax status.
First of all, all social programs are not pointed... - at the weakest and poorest...
[ In Reply To ..]
and there is waste and fraud that is rampant...the candy store is open and no one is watching the register. When you sign up generation after generation on welfare something is drastically wrong with the system. Instead of welfare, tie a public job of some kind to that check so someone actually has to get off the couch. Only those truly disabled should draw a check without having to contribute. I am not against helping those who need help...but welfare for the able-bodied should not be FOREVER.

And I don't know where you get that the rich don't give. Bill Gates gives a ton through his foundation...and many other of the "rich" do also. No one is compelling him through taxation to do that.

It is NOT the government's job to do that. It is we as individuals who should be taking care of those in need. Faith based organizations did it for years before the "war on poverty." You cannot welfare someone out of poverty. They need to WORK their way out, and that could be done by attaching that money to some kind of a public works job so they could earn that help. Give them a hand UP, not a hand OUT.

Are you opposed to tying a job to welfare payments for anyone who is physically able to work?
So what? You entirely missed the point... completely. - gee... we EARNED it...they took it.
[ In Reply To ..]
get it? This has nothing to do with conservative vs liberal.. read it again!

News flash....the post was specifically about - paying more TAXES.

[ In Reply To ..]
He seems to think he does not pay enough in taxes (as does Warren Buffett). Has NOTHING to do with charitable donations. If you are one of the two richest men in the country, it rings pretty hollow to say that you don\'t feel you are taxed enough (in support of higher taxes for the so-called rich, when in Dems minds is $250,000 or more...$250,000 is lunch money for Bill Gates). The POINT is, you can pay any extra taxes you want to voluntarily, so if he feels like he is not taxed enough, no one is stopping him from writing a check.

Liberals want to tax us to death and redistribute it to the people THEY think it should go to, and it IS our money. Who do you think pays taxes? The tooth fairy??

How much EXTRA TAX have YOU sent in lately?

As to charitable donations, I donate EVERY month. I do not have to be Do YOU?

Budget To Be Passed (hopefully) Apr 21, 2010
