Do Democrats really want a CEO of a large corporation and a thug off the streets of Chicago to make the same amount of money? I must be missing something. I'm sure some would like to explain it to me.

I'll explain it. The only difference between the thug on the street and the CEO is that the thug uses a gun or knife and the CEO uses numerous underhanded, backstabbing methods to rob his/her victims.

I'm just curious where this is coming from, because it really makes no sense to me. Saying a CEO and a "thug" should be paid the same is not a Democrat talking point. It's not anyone's talking point. Is it just something you made up? What is the point in that?

and income inequality is not crap. Forty years ago the average CEO made 40x that of the lowest paid worker in the company. Now it's something like 240x. Virtually all the gains in the economy have gone to the top 1 or 2%. We are a consumer driven society. The lower and middle classes spend a greater proportion of their income on goods and services than the upper classes. If they don't have money to buy goods and services, the economy goes down the tubes. That is why Henry Ford raised his employees' salaries during the depression - so they could afford to buy the cars he made. Good for him, good for them, good for the economy.

if everyone that is now living on welfare and food stamps (not Social security please - although maybe some on social security disability) were given a job that paid minimum wage - how much would that change things. We now have so many people who are making absolutely nothing, for whatever reason - that has to skew things - anybody have a thought on that?

already work minimum wage jobs. That is the whole point. Corporations should pay their employees a living wage so the government does not have to subsidize them with food stamps and welfare, especially when their CEOs are being paid 200 times what the lowest paid workers are making. This causes all of us to pay more in taxes. I remember when Ben and Jerry owned that ice cream company they never paid themselves more than 10 times what their lowest paid worker made.

If you are indeed an MT (sometimes I wonder who is posting on this board) you should have a severe personal and unwilling understanding of income inequality. Can you tell me why they couldn't have made our pay go down from $20/hr to maybe $15/hr instead of $12/hr? Nothing personal, they would say, it's just because they can - and they will - take every last cent off us low level employees simply because they are able to and then they can brag to their shareholders.

You think the fact that our pay has virtually halved in a few years is because times are tough and the poor CEOs need more of our income to improve the business? Really? Have you seen any improvements?

You think it is an accident that many of us on the lower end of the pay scale now qualify for food stamps and welfare?

Conservatism seems to incorporate a real love for wealth. Despite what conservatives think, Liberals do not have anything against wealth, just how it is achieved and perpetuated.

What has been proven of late (with my own MTSO, for crying out loud) is that these extremely wealthy corporations may be considered people by the Supreme Court, but they act in a psychopathic way when it concerns ACTUAL people. They have no conscience, they see no reason not to squeeze the last drop of income out of their poorest paid employees, they have no shame when they make obscene profits yet their employees receive govt aid.

The Fox News propaganda machine calls it The Obama Economy, but he has nothing to do with it - the corporate takeover of our govt started a long time ago, but ever since corporations became "people" they have shamelessly cut their employees' bottom line and paid huge sums to buy elections and politicians instead of paying taxes, which would enrich us all. Ever hear of infrastructure, i.e. roads and bridges? Yeah, those things these corporations used to get where they are and now they offshore their profits so they pay no tax. Would that we could be so lucky.

Hey, maybe your comparison wasn't so off base - but rather than a comparison perhaps they are one and the same. The corporations have BECOME the street thugs. Except they don't actually have to come face to face with the human beings they are stealing from.
