President Obama on The View

Posted: Jul 30, 2010

I am reminded why I voted for him and still have confidence in him, even if I don't always agree with him.  Bash me all you want, I don't care.  It reflects on the bashers more than the bashee, and he is great man.

President Obama - LadyMT

[ In Reply To ..]
No bashing. I agree with you

Suave, debonair, charming, sophisticated, gracious, classy and - intelligent...

[ In Reply To ..]
It's called charisma, a trait that just drives his opponents insane.

LOL!! Charisma, however, does not a good president make. - TX

[ In Reply To ..]
Thats what Obama is depending on. Women who "fall" for his charm. I guess it worked with you. I would rather have an actual leader who knows what he is doing. With the direction this country is still headed, he aint THE ONE.

No one said that. Fact is that charisma in a politician - comes in REEAAALLLYYY handy

[ In Reply To ..]
when election time rolls around and in the world of political science is considered key in establishing leadership, generating interest in agendas, constructing persuasive arguments and motivating support.

I wouldn't be dismissing the notion so casually if I were you. It has proven to be quite a potent trait and a great source of power. A few examples of folks who has used their charisma to great advantage: Mahatma Gandhi, Adolf Hitler, Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, Benito Mussolini, Tony Blair, Fidel Castro, Nelson Mandela, Osama bin Laden, Jack Kennedy, Franklin Roosevelt, and Eva Peron.
Well, I dont want some dimwit who happens to have - charisma running my business.
[ In Reply To ..]
Obama is running the country, and I could not care less about his charisma or Hollywood style. I care about his destructive policies for the nation.
It does not matter what you want. Charisma - has played its part in
[ In Reply To ..]
in the evolution of political leadership throughout history. It is a fact of life. You dont have to like it, but to dismiss it as insignificnt would be sheer folly, considering the direct relationship it can have to power.
You are not getting the point. TOO many have used his - charisma to elect him... that alone!!.
[ In Reply To ..]
In the big picture, it SHOULD be insignificant. Used car salesmen can have charisma, but many of them are swindlers. Will you ever get it?
I am not talking about what SHOULD be. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I am making a simple statement about what IS. There is no need to repeat what is in the other two posts. I didnt say one way or the other if it is good or bad. It can be both (which I tried to convey by my examples) and it can be neither. It is very difficult to define, its meaning varies from one person to the next but its effect on groups or even whole populations of people is curiously universal.

In psychology, sociology, political science and even business studies, there are standardized systems used to measure, rank and rate a persons charisma. It comes from a Greek word meaning gift. You either have it or you dont and if you dont, there are not a whole lot of ways you can develop it as its power is something bestowed to you by the way others perceive you.

Charisma is as complex as it is fascinating. Instead of scolding me like a child, I suggest you read up on the subject.
Wow...if you were wanting to shed a positive - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
light on Obama and his charisma....I don't think I would have used some of the examples that you did...just to name a couple....Hitler and Castro.
Look, not EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD is about Obama. - The subject is charisma, sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I was not trying to shed a positive light on Obama. I was discussing the power or charisma, which, as you can see by my OBJECTIVE example citations, can impact leadership across all spectums, from the extreme positive to the extreme negative. It has its dark side.

That said, Obama obviously has the charisma factor. It helped im in the last election and it will give him a certain edge in 2012 unless the GOP can come up with a canidate who has his share of charisma AND substance. Good luck with that.

Says a lot about the USA that they would vote for - someone based on charisma.
[ In Reply To ..]
The Hollywood factor. What a superficial, artificial nation the USA has become. ...not because charisma doesnt matter, but it seems to matter TOO much these days.
Very well said - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
And how sad. Nobody cares about experience anymore. Just gotta have that "charisma". Whose next? Brad Pitt for president.
LOL. Thats what I was thinking.. Brad Pitt.. - or maybe George Clooney.nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
You are still not getting it. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The appeal of charisma is a phenomenon that has been observed across all cultures throughout history. It is not a product of Hollywood, the media, the US or any such parochial institutions. You are confusing it with celebrity.
No! We are giving an opinion on how people judge - charisma and confuse with character..get a clue.nm

Another Fox feeding frenzy falsehood. - Ever wonder

[ In Reply To ..]
why nobody else is reporting this? Obama declined the invitation months ago and long before the View deal was sealed. Pointless puny propaganda.

not the point - mm

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think the ooint was WHEN he declined the Boy Scouts, but the point that he DID decline.
Guess which other sitting presidents - snubbed the Boy Scouts?
[ In Reply To ..]
Wanna go there? OK. Fine. Let us set the record straight once and for all.

Presidents who attended the Jamboree
1. Franklin D Roosevelt - Democrat
2. Harry S. Truman - Democrat
3. George H.W. Bush - Republian
4. Bill Clinton - Democrat
5. George W. Bush - Republican

Presidents who did not attend the Jamboree:
1. Dwight D. Eisenhower - Republican
2. John F. Kennedy - Democrat
3. Lyndon Baines Johnson - Demcorat
4. Richard Nixon - Republican
5. Gerald Ford - Republican
6. Jimmy Carter - Democrat
7. Ronald Reagan (Oh, my!) - Republican
8. Barack Obama - Democrat, who BTW did send a taped message.

So let's see, what do we have here? Only 5 presidents out of 13 attended the Jamboree in the last 100 years. Of those there were 3 democrats and 2 republicans. Of the 8 presidents who did not attend the Jamboree, 4 were republicans and 4 were democrats.

Here is the reason for bringing Fox News into the mix. When all the information is disclosed, there IS no story, no smoking gun, no outrage (well, phoney outrage, of course), no nothing. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Now I suppose if we wanted to get REALLY absurd, we could point out that more democrats than republicans actually did attend the Jamboree....but then again, let's just leave it as is.

There is no THERE there. Got it? Case closed.

P.S. Here is what a reliable source looks like. The Jamboree was held in Dayton. Therefore, the local newspaper probably has a handle on the situation, dontcha think?

Very nice post! I get sooooo tired of people - listening to Faux and their
[ In Reply To ..]
ilk and taking it as fact when I know for a fact it is a lie, but I know beyond a shadow of doubt that there will be some ignorant Regressives here taking it as fact without checking it out.
FOX does not lie. You just dont like what they say - YOUR propaganda is what gets old.nm
[ In Reply To ..]
nm
Fox has you doing what it does. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
When a body facts is staring you straight in the face, you select which ones you believe and promote (restricted to only the ones that support your own subjective beliefs) and which to ignore and suppress (the ones which do not, of course). You then proceed to construct a belief system based on half-truths at best, omission and outright lies, which can only be acceptable to those who share your same distorted world view. Those who do not will not and when they confront you with irrefutable facts, you cannot handle it on any level.

Breitbart/Sherrod and the Boy Scouts story are by no means isolated incidents. This has been their game plan from the get-go, and the broader cable and network viewing audience is well aware of it. Your post shows that you have no more interest in the truth than Fox. THAT is what gets old.

Fox manufactures phoney outrage, plays on its viewers limited scope and manipulates them to promote its political agenda. Five presidents attended the Jamboree and 8 did not. Obama taped a message, as others have done in the past. These are the facts that deflate the hot air out of that puny and pointless piece of propaganda. Deal with it.
Go watch your garbage left-wing biased rants then. - There is a reason those networks are dying
[ In Reply To ..]
in the ratings. They are full of lies and hate. I used to watch them too until I woke up.
Unlike you, I think it is important - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
to gather information from all sources and points of view, whether I agree with them or not and certainly do not confine myself to the shallow well of cable news or US sources. Your attitude is exactly what Fox nurtures, one of division and polarization. They seek to close you off from any input that would equip you with white matter functional enough to recognize their deceptive pratices. Enjoy that parallel universe thing.

When spouting all that ratings nonsense, might want to stop and consider the numbers of all those other media outlets combined (that reject Fox agenda and never tune in) and how much of the audience they collectively capture. You might be really surprised to find out what other programs outrank Fox in any given time slot by shoving them into the dust. Jersey Shore and the Bachelorette come to mind.
oh hahaha! I am sure you get a balanced view from - all sides...not buying it !.nm

In this case, we tried to get it from Fox but it was sooooo apparent to anyone with an open mind and 2 brain cells to rub together that this was NOT a reputable station. Do not accuse me of lying. I do not lie. I leave that to you Regressives. You, as usual, do not know what you are talking about so your statement does not matter.
Will agree with that. You DO think differently, but you - are one-sided, not fooling anyone.nm

Faux News knows ONLY how to lie and manipulate. They do NOT care about being fair. They do NOT care about being balanced. They do NOT care about being correct. Above all, they do NOT care about being truthful. I am hoping Sherry Sherrod sues the pants off of them AND Andrew what-his-name. And you should be embarrassed for blinding following along like a good little soldier and regurgitating their crap and thereby making it seem somehow more credible just because you are doing it, which is of course, exactly what they want you to do. Being manipulated must suit you, because you do it very well.
Its called FOX news. -and I am sure you dont watch them - so why bother commenting all the time?

the concept of freedom of speech? Anybody anytime can speak on any subject for as long as they want to on this forum. Lord knows the wing-nuts get up here day after day after day talking about things they know less than nothing about and we all hacve to put up with that.

You have no way of knowing whether or not she watches Focks, and it does not matter anyway. Everybody knows they do not have a shred of integrity and in fact they made national headlines just last week with their ongoing false propaganeda machine. She is right. You should be ashamed of yourself for defending them and you are really good at the lock-step march, so suck it up, soldier. You asked for it.
FOX NEWS is at least good to watch to get a balance from - all the liberal networks. Give me a break!

Your post was one of the most childish I have seen here in a while. We should be ashamed for defending Fox? "Everybody knows they do not have a shred of integrity" ?? Wow, lady, you have some kind of nerve. Gee, I am so glad we have you here to inform us. What would we ever do without your advice?? LOL! I guess we can use you for comedy purposes. thanks
I have actually forced myself on a number of - occasions to watch Fox
[ In Reply To ..]
just so I could be sure to hear what they were saying and be able to honestly say that I gave them a listen. I listened for as long as my gag reflex could stand it. I do know what Fox is, what is says, and very little of it is true. Most of it is what they want you to hear, and they will spin it however they need to to get you to keep swallowing it and then regurgitating it to the general public. Don't get angry at me or other thiking Progressives because we can turn on Fox and see through something so obvious. Either direct your anger at them for lying and leading you around the garden path, or at yourselves for being so easily led.
Bravo. I do the same. Its like taking raw fish oil, - but I do it.

[ In Reply To ..]
At least we were during the last election cycle. To believe otherwise is to surrender entirely too much power to those blowhard bullies and dumbed down dodoes. I look at it as growing pains. The angry white man mentality and all of its ugly social manifests is drawing its last dying breaths before going the way of the dinosaurs, but refuses to go quietly into the night.

Evolution marches on despite their best efforts. I can only hope I live long enough to catch a fleeting glimpse of what awaits us on the other side of that transition and, for my son's sake (age 32), that it does not take too much longer.

who do not listen to Fox but seem to think they know so much about it. But can't blame the people after all this is what MSLSD tells them to say. The plain simple fact is you DO NOT know what Fox reports is a lie, because it's not a lie. Care to name specific lies? Most likely not.

If any station lies about issues they are going to face a law suit. Fox does not lie and at least if they ever say anything that is not right they immediately say "I aired something that was not correct" and they make sure they apologize. Something none of the liberal stations ever do. Sheesh! Talk about hypocrisy. The only ignorant people here are the ones who claim to know what Fox says without even listening to their station. Oooh another sign of hypocrisy.

On the issue with the Boy Scouts. The President opted to go on The View instead of celebrating the 100th Anniversary with the Boy Scouts. Instead he sent a pre-recorded video tape. And I don't care if you don't like any of the links...news is news and the fact is he dissed the BS to appear on the Spew. Hey...gotta show them that charisma. Guess you can't blame him though because his ratings are so bad he's gotta do something to prop himself up, and like one article said...he could say the sky is orange and his followers would believe him.

Obama is such a phony.

[ In Reply To ..]
The Colbert Report, Comedy Central, Oprah and Dr. Phil? W appeared on all of these. I can provide dates if you like. My personal favorite W TV moment was that game show episode of Deal or No Deal in April 2008. If you want to read more about their very DIGNIFIED format, check out the link below. FYI, The View is filmed in NYC, not Hollywood.

It does not matter what he or the others were or were not doing. You can yell, scream, shout, throw your hands up in the air, have a tantrum, take out a billboard, WHATEVER. There is no story here other than Obama appeared on the View, revealed a more personal side of himself and anwered pertinent questions posed to him by the panel. He was well received by his audience, which is what is driving his critics crazy. In fact, 6.59 million people tuned in on workday morning to see him...more than the 2008 Presidential Election broadcast, and an all-time record breaker.

Now, if you like, I could research other previous talk show appearances by former presidents, but I think you get the general drift, huh?

I have no political heroes. None! I don't see President Obama as a hero. I don't see him as a villain. I think he's done some things well and others not so well. LOL. How can he lose me? If he caves in to the people who want to take my Medicare and/or social security from me, ...

President Obama Pointing FingersAug 13, 2011
at congress.  I gotta give the president credit...he is an excellent finger pointer.  lol In all honesty though, congress does have to own up to some of the blame here.  However, I don't truly believe Obama blames congress.  I believe he is trying to blame republicans in congress because now there are people opposing the democrats on their views.  I guess my biggest problem with this blame game is that the democrats could have done anything they wanted before the l ...

President Obama's Mother Was An American And So Apr 07, 2011
President Obama was clearly born in Hawaii or else 2 hospitals and the Health Department were in some kind of conspiracy when he was a baby. Did they know that one day he would be president? His mother was an American and that makes him an American no matter where he was born, even though Hawaii was in America at the time he was born there. ...

President Obama To 2010 GraduatesMay 04, 2010
"But what troubles me is when I hear people say that all of government is inherently bad," said Obama, who received an honorary doctor of laws degree. "When our government is spoken of as some menacing, threatening foreign entity, it ignores the fact that in our democracy, government is us." Government, he said, is the roads we drive on and the speed limits that keep us safe. It's the men and women in the military, the inspectors in our mines, the pioneering researchers in public universiti ...

President Obama Clashes With McCain InMay 25, 2010
President Barack Obama battled with Senate Republicans in a tense closed-door meeting Tuesday, facing tough criticism from his GOP adversaries — including John McCain — on issues ranging from health care to border security.  Senators and other sources inside the meeting described the gathering as “testy” and “direct” — and Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) accused Obama of acting two-faced by asking for GOP support on regulatory reform only to push for ...

Did President Obama Tell The Truth When He Said FamiliesSep 07, 2012
Yes. (This is from the Washington Post. The "through W's terms" are my words. His are below. Note the graph--that vertical axis is our debt as we try to maintain, not yet realizing that falling or stagnant wages are not just a temporary aberration.)  TRUE. President Obama: "By 2008, we had seen nearly a decade in which families struggled with costs that kept rising but paychecks that didn’t; racking up more and more debt just to make the mortgage or pay tuition; to put gas in th ...

President Obama Claimed To Cut Taxes ForSep 07, 2012
President Obama: "Now, I’ve cut taxes for those who need it – middle-class families and small businesses." TRUE – Obama has indeed cut taxes on 95 percent of Americans, and, among many other initiatives, passed the HIRE Act which cut taxes on small businesses who hire and retain workers. For the life of me, I don't understand why some are SO unhappy with this. By all means, don't vote Dem for social reasons if that's who you are. ...

President Obama Approval RatingOct 24, 2012
I just took a look at Real Clear Politics and noticed that President Obama's job approval rating is overall +3.4 and Gallup has it at +11 for the past couple of days, and more people polled have approved of his job performance than have not for quite some time.  If this is the case, and it appears to be, why would people vote for Mitt Romney and deal with the unknown?  It strikes me as odd since Romney seems to be somewhat ahead in the polls with the exception of IBD/TIPP. ...
