Political pundits

Posted: Jul 23, 2013

Is anyone else here put off by political pundits? I don't care if they're democrat or republican, they all get under my skin. Half the time, they're just spouting crap to get their troops all riled up and boost ratings. They often yell, cut people off and mock their callers.

I enjoy reading the news and don't need it spoonfed to me by some partisan blowhard. I don't care who they are!

Anybody else agree?

;

Well there are some who swear by pundits - if they agree with their philosophy

I never watch politically geared shows such as Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity. I can't remember the last time I heard Rush. Is he still around?

The only way I know what pundits are saying is when they are referenced in posts by posters who agree with what they are saying, such as a post today with a clip of Bill O'Reilly. I watched the clip part way and realized why I do not watch O'Reilly so I quit watching the clip. I don't need O'Reilly or his fellow pundits to stir me up, "educate" or advise me.

Honestly I can't believe people spend their time watching or listening to political/social pundits.

I think Rush is still around. - sm

I find it disrespectful that these entertainers operate under the guise of "educating" people, when the only thing they do is make this party hate that party even more than they already do. I would bet the farm that democrats and republicans got along better and had more respect for each other before this circus came to town.

Well, I must say he entertained me yesterday (sm) - LM

I was driving home from the store, and some of the things he was saying were so funny, I was almost crying. They were on a topic that is not considered political, though, so I guess I can't regale you with the jokes - much to your dismay, I'm sure. LOL

I feel like they set the ugly, disrespectful - tone of political

discussion in our country. They lowered the bar for intelligent discourse and people threw their manners and thinking caps and blindly followed along. And things have never been the same since.

I agree completely. - It actually makes me sad.

I wonder if there's a correlation between those who refuse discuss politics politely and whether or not they are listeners.

That would be a great thesis topic - for someone doing

graduate work on political science, communications, sociology or even psychology. Great idea!

Their, and their networks', need to get and keep - viewers drags discourse into the gutter.

Most important topics are not covered at all, ignored because they haven't already caught the public fancy.

Much the same as what happens on this forum, where most people glance at invitations to intelligent discussion but move right on to participate in the mud fights--to those we return return again and again.

I guess we can be bored and thoughtful working at our desks and look for something else on breaks. Such a shame too many of us mistake what punditry offers for actual understanding of the world.

Sometimes, but TV is too polite. Check out political - blogs and radio for the real draws. nm

is scan this very board.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to find that the most hateful of the lot actually DO watch these pundits or listen to the RW radio stations with hosts such as Rush.

I don't listen to ANY radio, conservative or otherwise, and I also don't read or contribute to political blogs.

I prefer to get the news that forms my opinions from the horse's mouth: I listen to the politicians themselves.

I think a LOT more "polite" would go a long way on this very board, though.

Well that's exactly what they are - babysitters and ratings boosters - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
but as bad as THEY are they couldn't exit without an available audience of nonthinkers.

Wasn't directing comments to OP - just saying

[ In Reply To ..]
about nonthinking audience. But think about it - they are their to draw a crowd of people who want to hear what they are spewing. There is no intelligent discussion and there isn't supposed to be - they just need people tuning in to buy the garbage on the ads...

What's really bad is when one of them (Rand Paul, I think but I could be wrong) calls social security a "hand-out." Say what? We've been paying into that! Or how about Paul Ryan, who thinks that all the unemployed do all day long is "lie in hammocks" instead of getting a job? Enough said.... ...

Conservative Pundits: Obama Summit Logo A ‘Muslim Crescent’Apr 15, 2010
By Daniel TencerWednesday, April 14th, 2010 -- 3:09 pm For the second time in the past few months, conservative commentators see something sinister in an Obama administration logo. Following a controversy in February over what some said was a "Muslim crescent" in the logo of the US Missile Defense Agency, some commentators are saying they see the same thing in the thin, white crescent that borders the logo of President Barack Obama's Nuclear Security Summit. "That’s weird … ...

I Guess This Is Political, If Not, SorryNov 10, 2009
So, I'm a conservative pretty much to the core.  Not as far right as Rush, definitely nowhere near Michael Savage, more kinda like Sean Hannity.  This whole thing about the DC Sniper being put to death tonight kinda has me bugged.  The death penalty is supposed to be a conservative belief.  I realize he killed 10 people in cold blood but who are we to play God and take his life too?  I do understand the Bible saying "an eye for an eye". BP Oil Spill Becoming PoliticalMay 26, 2010
I never saw James Carville so furious and I don't blame him. This is oil spill is absolutely unforgiveable. The marshlands are being destroyed and probably the whole fishing industry for a few years, if not more than decades. I was reading other reports yesterday and I always read the poster's comments. Some say stop depending on oil and depend on nuclear, solar, and wind. That's easier said than done. Solar and wind are expensive and not a guarantee for northern climates. N ...

Political Mob Got To Lester HoltSep 27, 2016
Well I think the political mob has threatened Lester Holt in some way. Honestly I am not being paranoid but the way things in DC have played out when clearly Hillary and a lot of her cronies should be in jail makes this feasible. Until someone comes forth and tells that they have been threatened then it will continue. However, if they are threatening families of these people then I can see why they are hesitant to come forth.
