German Newspaper says Assad didn't order the attack

Posted: Sep 8, 2013

This is why the U.S. should wait. This is probably why most countries are not backing us, too. If this is true, then maybe Al Quada, the Taliban, or Hezbollah may have infiltrated the weaponry cache and used them knowing Assad would be blamed.

Syrian forces may have used gas without Assad's permission: paper

(Reuters) - Syrian government forces may have carried out a chemical weapons attack close to Damascus without the personal permission of President Bashar al-Assad, Germany's Bild am Sonntag paper reported on Sunday, citing German intelligence.

Syrian brigade and division commanders had been asking the Presidential Palace to allow them to use chemical weapons for the last four-and-a-half months, according to radio messages intercepted by German spies, but permission had always been denied, the paper said.

There's more to the story - can't believe everything we read

But under the story are several comments that pretty much debunk the theory that it was anyone other than Assad. It could be true or it could be false. It's mind-boggling the speed at which information is changing in the media.

There are also the previous government uses of poison gas - against civilians in Syria...

How about the video of the rebels who said they did it - not Assad

[ In Reply To ..]
Oh, but I guess you want to skip over that so Obama can have his war.

Okey, dokie.

If you don't like my link there are plenty of other links to prove Assad has nothing to do with it.

Saddam Hussein witch hunt to me. O wants Assad out, so will do anything to make that happen...even spin the facts in his favor of opinion. Look out Assad, O is on the "hunt."
Really? Then why was the president so resistant - to direct intervention
[ In Reply To ..]
in Syria before the chemical weapons attack? Why did the US wait more than 1-1/2 years before sending material aid to the rebels? Why didn't he act the first time Assad used chemical weapons?

The only witch hunt going on here is the one we deal with on an hour-to-hour basis here on this forum....the Obama GOTCHA witch hunt.

so it did not look like he was going to do this... same thing with Hussein before they went after him... all was acceptable at first. no difference.

Which rebels would that be? - You do realize that

[ In Reply To ..]
there is nothing the Johnny-come-lately Islamic groups would like more than to discredit their more secular FSA opposition counterparts (who outnumber them 3:1) don't you? Outside Islamic forces did not enter the conflict until around Summer 2012. Though they are better prepared for combat, they are also more aggressive and belligerant than FSA fighters..so much so that they now have turned on the FSA and even taken control of a couple of village strongholds previously held by FSA, who spent plenty of blood and treasure securing them from Assad.

BTW, where's the link to you're alleged video? Did it say just how the rebels put their hands on all that sarin? Where they got enough rockets to launch coordinated simultaneous attacks in NE Damacus? Why they decided to kill their own families and children instead of those who live in enemy neighborhoods?

Inquiring minds want to know.

May 5? "Before it's news, " indeed. Are we talking about the Aug. 21 attack - or what?

I think therein lies the problem. - ZvilleMT

We'll never know for sure who did it, which really makes it that much more dangerous to go in. I don't know - I'm really split on this issue. On one hand, I think we should go in and help those people, plus we risk looking weak if we don't. On the other hand, we have no idea what we're getting in to, who we're siding with, or what the repercussions might be. It's really a lose-lose and how do you make that kind of decision?

I agree with your rationale or being split on this, but - sm

I'm not sure that we can surmise that we'll never know for sure who did the chemical attacks.

Some members of congress who have seen the classified intelligence seem convinced that Assad is the culprit. I remember one of them saying (sorry can't cite, but I think was CNN interview) that he wishes he could tell the American people what they know. So maybe eventually we will know for sure who did it.

At any rate, I trust American intelligence 100 times more than any foreign news reporting agencies or Putin, all of whom have their own agendas in the global scheme of things, and easy for them to throw out lies and try to shamefully manipulate. It's just reckless, irresponsible, and dangerous.
American intelligence - Libby

It was "American Intelligence" that gave us the War on Iraq, albeit at least time the US Administration is actually waiting for the report of the inspectors before they get involved in this.

I truly believe the phrase "American intelligence" is an oxymoron.
American Intelligence - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The intelligence wasn't flawed, it was more or less ignored and manipulated to suit the Bush Administration's agenda.

It wasn't the intelligence that gave us the war, it was Bush and Company, the same comedy of errors that ignored intelligence that was right in front of their faces that allowed 9/11.

Assad: There Are 'definitely' Terrorists Among Syrian RefugeesFeb 10, 2017
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad claims in a new interview that there are "definitely" terrorists among the Syrian refugees displaced by his country's civil war. “You can find it on the net. The same picture that you saw them, in some cases ... those terrorists in Syria, holding the machine gun or killing people, they are peaceful refugees in Europe or in the West," Assad said during an interview with Yahoo News published on Thursday. But it didn't help: The soldiers' reception was cool.   One ...

An Opinion From Australian NewspaperJan 09, 2010
Military shock and awe won't overcome terrorism January 8, 2010 A smarter approach, which keeps the threat in perspective, is needed. NOT all ways of dying rate equally in the public mind. More than 1500 Australians died last year in road accidents, many of them preventable. Had terrorists killed the same number, we would have found that unbearable. Even a failed bombing attempt on a plane bound for Detroit on Christmas Day has instantly triggered tighter security. Because the Nige ...

German Federal Supreme Court: Measles Is NOT A VirusJan 26, 2017

Reseachers in the past decades committed a critical mistake:  They used no controls.  As a result, components of regular cells were misidentified as vira ...
