For those mourning the outcome of yesterday's election

Posted: Nov 7, 2012

Turn off Fox and turn on your brains. It really isn't as bad as you think. Untwist the lies and manipulations and you will find a middle-of-the-road president who represents all of us -- conservatives, liberals, moderates -- to the best of his ability, with the aid (or hindrance) of the House of Representatives and Senate.

People need to stop clinging to the ridiculous falsehoods that Obama is a socialist (or communist or terrorist or whatever the latest figment of someone's imagination says he could be). Nobody is running out to celebrate by getting an abortion. Obamacare is not going to bankrupt us (quite the contrary). The financial crisis we're in as a country dates back to pre-Obama, and the additional money put into the stimulus is probably why your friends and family who are employed still have jobs, and why your schools are still open, and you have police and firemen to protect you.

In this day and age of blogs and instant "news," anyone can make up anything they want and sit back and watch with glee as it goes viral. And there's a "news" station spewing it 24/7 to the eager masses who have been trained to lap it up. Do you realize they traffic in lies and hate? And make huge amounts of money by doing so? You really want to be a part of that? Why?

You're needlessly scaring yourselves to death. You're allowing yourselves to be pawns. Come on. You're smarter than that. Use your rational thinking skills. Try coming from a positive place. You can make the world a better place. Truly.

;

yes, you got one statement correct in there - middle of the road

[ In Reply To ..]
This is what our country has come to... Accepting "middle of the road" as a good thing.

Are you suggesting... - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
...that extremism is the way to go?

Idea, I'm not sure some are capable of what you suggest, - others enjoy their superiority

over those who lack their understanding and have no intention of dumbing down with us. Many are quite simply committed emotionally to their leaders and cannot just up and decide to think for themselves.

One thing is for sure: Generally speaking, some people are VERY poor losers and quite capable of filling this forum with senseless attacks and squabbling for the next four years.

My suggestion to everyone is to leave angry and spiteful extremists to discuss their various angry issues among themselves as much as possible. Nice chats, sure, when possible, but that some people are frequently very aggressive and want to engage doesn't mean others have to encourage that behavior by responding.

This response proves the OP point. - sm

Middle of the road within this context in no way refers to mediocre. It is a reference to centrist positioned leadership tasked with drawing 535 congressional players, including those from both extreme wings, toward middle ground, the ONLY PLACE from which compromise and progress forward can originate, especially in the face of entrenched divisions and consequential congressional intransigence attitudes such as these affirm.

In his acceptance speech, Obama showed he understands very well what he must do to break up the log jam. I love my country. As a left of lib, I am more than willing to stand by and watch him maintain his previously positioned distance from my minority belief systems for the sake of progress, which may not be moving as quickly as I would like. The opposite end of that spectrum will need to do the same unless, of course, decline is the objective, making mediocrity is an elusive goal we can only dream about reaching.

True. - (OP was optimistic about how smart we are)

yes...I am smarter that this...and anything else - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
you propose. It is not all happiness and flowers with this "middle of the road" president, as he represents only himself and his agenda...surely not us! He does not listen to what the people want...never has. He just attempts to push through congress and the senate what HE wants to push through, whether it is good for "the people" or not. Obamacare is not going to increase our financial status by any means. Those of you who keep holding onto the idea that it is a GOOD thing need to become "smarter than that" and stop being Obama pawns, as well. I will use the slogan that the media used for T. Thompson..."He is not FOR you, anymore." I do not watch Fox news, and I do use my brains and my eyes. Fortunately I do not have wool over mine so that I can see what is actually transpiring here...read your Bibles. Read Revelations and you MAY understand what is happening and why. oh...that's right...you don't believe in God, but you will believe Obama's lies. hmmm. now that is "rational thinking!"

scary stuff - sm

I wonder why you think you can make assumptions about who does or does not believe in God. You should keep that brand of faith to yourself if that is what loving God does for you.

You're right - it isn't as bad - as we think...

It's going to be worse - just wait.

Today: And the American International Group is contractually obliged to make bonus payments of nearly $200 million in March 2010. The company has promised to try to reduce that amount by 30 percent. I Was Actually Shocked Speechless YesterdayNov 24, 2009
I know it's hard to believe, but I was actually shocked speechless yesterday. I went into store that just opened up a few months ago in the town next to me. It is an accessories store. They sell knockoff designer handbags, sunglasses, scarves, jewelery and other things. I was talking to the man who owned the store as I was browsing the items. I had picked out a few things I liked and was planning on purchasing them. Then, as we were discussing the handbags he had in the store, he showed me ...

News Yesterday: Corporations Had Their Best Year Since 1900Apr 05, 2011
Depression for some and more luxury than ever before for others. When I look at our economy over the last 5-6 years, I see a very wide range of properity vs. economic depression. I truly believe that those in the poor-to-middle class are headed for depression, while the news this week was that corporations had their best year since 1900.
