I was actually shocked speechless yesterday

Posted: Nov 24, 2009

I know it's hard to believe, but I was actually shocked speechless yesterday. I went into store that just opened up a few months ago in the town next to me. It is an accessories store. They sell knockoff designer handbags, sunglasses, scarves, jewelery and other things. I was talking to the man who owned the store as I was browsing the items. I had picked out a few things I liked and was planning on purchasing them. Then, as we were discussing the handbags he had in the store, he showed me one that was really gaudy. It was purple, orange, yellow, and green with a lot of gold bling on it. He then said, "This purse is for the N-word". I was so shocked that I couldn't say a word! All I could do was drop the items I had intended to purchase on the counter and walk out of the store.

I would have done the same thing after I brought my jaw up off the floor. Always shocked and saddened to hear that word or any other disparaging ethnic reference. With an attitude like that, I don't think that shop owner will be in business long.

Was he foreign? I worked for a doctor who was from India and he made what he thought was an innocent joke (not a racial joke at all, just a regular joke) and he said the "n" word in it and all the girls gasped and when he asked what was wrong, we explained that it wasn't a word we used in America. Being from India, he had heard someone use it and thought that was a "nickname" for them...he just needed to be "educated" a bit! I felt bad for the man, so I am hoping you tell me that guy you met was foreign too and just needs a little "education" as well (though I know racism is still rampant in today's day and age...)! Proud of you for putting the stuff down and walking out though!

Watching The Debate Yesterday On CSPAN, I Was A Bit Surprised/shockedMar 26, 2010
One of the debaters (can't remember his name but a pub) asked BARBARA SLAUGHTER if he could have 15 SECONDS to finish his sentence when his time ran out. She refused vehemently! She was also very nasty to someone else last week. Another pub wanted to introduce a bill and the grumblings started again from members. The gavel had to be wielded again to quiet the house. Sheila Jackson Lee stated "Since this bill was passed, lives HAVE BEEN SAVED". How? Nothing has gone into effect y ...

This is the first time I've ever been on this board and I wandered here when I saw a post that interested me when I saw the last post read field above.  I have never seen so much fighting among people who claim to have faith in ANY God or higher power.  Do none of you practice what you preach?  It doesn't matter if you're atheist, Christian, Buddhist, or whatever.  If you claim to follow your beliefs and your beliefs are based on a religion, NONE of you would d ...

in the nation's overall poorest area--the South. Now I run across this graphic below. An oncologist in my area earns $100K a year more than one in the far wealthier area I used to live and make a lot more money in myself--Los Angeles. How can one of the nation's poorest populations pay for most of the highest profiting hospitals and some of the wealthiest physicians in the country? All these comparatively poor people, who earn less for the same work as other areas, many of whom don ...

Even The Daily Show Was Shocked by This Racist GOP Leader's Responses   The Daily Show's "field reporters" have dealt with a fair amount of hilariously oblivious responses from interviewees over the years, but on last night's show, correspondent Aasif Mandvi appeared to have been caught off-guard by just how hilariously oblivious his interviewee was. Speaking with Buncombe County Republican precinct chair Don Yelton on the subject of North Carolina's  ...

you had an uncle that went to prison in the 1950s for a murder he did not commit.  His sister was being beaten by an abusive husband and when she defended herself, she killed him.  Her brother comes along and says he did it because his sister has 5-6 small children and he does not want her to go to prison so he says he did it.  A year or so later he successfully escapes from prison and is never seen or heard from again.  Pretty cool. or, your parents married and you were bor ...

Tea Party smarter than average. Dan Kahan, the Elizabeth K. His findings shocked him: tea party supporters are actually more scientifically literate than the non-tea party population I’ve got to confess, though, I found this result surprising. As I pushed the button to run the analysis on my computer, I fully expected I ...

But once again, there is nothing Mr. Feinberg can do because those bonuses were already written into contracts — and there is a high likelihood that the bonuses will create another furor in Congress, just as they did earlier this year. A year ago: For instance, it is critical for General Mot ...
