10 THINGS EVERY AMERICAN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT HEALTH CARE REFORM

1. Once reform is fully implemented, over 95% of Americans will have health insurance coverage, including 32 million who are currently uninsured.2

2. Health insurance companies will no longer be allowed to deny people coverage because of preexisting conditions—or to drop coverage when people become sick.3

3. Just like members of Congress, individuals and small businesses who can't afford to purchase insurance on their own will be able to pool together and choose from a variety of competing plans with lower premiums.4

4. Reform will cut the federal budget deficit by $138 billion over the next ten years, and a whopping $1.2 trillion in the following ten years.5

5. Health care will be more affordable for families and small businesses thanks to new tax credits, subsidies, and other assistance—paid for largely by taxing insurance companies, drug companies, and the very wealthiest Americans.6

6. Seniors on Medicare will pay less for their prescription drugs because the legislation closes the "donut hole" gap in existing coverage.7

7. By reducing health care costs for employers, reform will create or save more than 2.5 million jobs over the next decade.8

8. Medicaid will be expanded to offer health insurance coverage to an additional 16 million low-income people.9

9. Instead of losing coverage after they leave home or graduate from college, young adults will be able to remain on their families' insurance plans until age 26.10

10. Community health centers would receive an additional $11 billion, doubling the number of patients who can be treated regardless of their insurance or ability to pay.11

was doing anything about it, now, were they? We needed reform, and we're getting it. If the republicans had wanted change, they could have done it when they were in office. But did they? Nope. It's so easy to NOW say that yes, indeed, we did need reform (just not this one), but why, then, didn't they do it when they had the chance?

Many, many politicians - have said
[ In Reply To ..]
that they *wanted*, or *were going to* reform healthcare, but none were able to pull it off. Personally, I think that is because most presidents don't want to go that far out on a limb, possibly risking losing a second term, to get it done. I'm certainly no political scholar, that is just my thought on the subject.

Never in a million years did I think Obama would go so far as to get it done, against opposition and uproar, and that is actually something I admire in him. He went there, where most wouldn't dare. This thing might even crash and burn, but I think his intentions were good. Again, JMHO.
Because they were too busy shoving wars - down our throats, finding

ways to legitimize torture and wiretapping phones. Oh, and spending 869 days clearing brush in Crawford, lest we forget. Did not leave much time to actually reform health care (as if they wanted to.)
Um, we're still wiretapping phones. Obama kept the Patriot Act! - Anon

So it's a-okay when HE does it, but when Bush does it, it's evil? Just ridiculous.

And Clinton and Kerry and Pelosi all voted for the Iraq War, and they used the same info in 2002 that we had in the late 90s when Billy Jeff was the president.

But I forgot...Bush is evil, that's the difference.
Actually, he kept 3 provisions including the - wiretapping but with
[ In Reply To ..]
increased judicial oversight. Bush just flat out broke the law AFTER reassuring the nation that would not happen and that even if he did, he would need to get a warrant to obtain it, then proceeded to do it anyway. Bush was a crook.

So why not indict Bush if he was such a "crook." Got any evidence.... - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
or is the fact that you don't like him all you need to string him up?

Clinton was no angel, lying to a grand jury to deny a woman a fair hearing. He's still walking around collecting million in speaking fees and brokering deals with oligarchs. Got a problem with him though, or does it even matter to you because he's a liberal?
You would have to have spent the last decade - in a cave in the deepest,
[ In Reply To ..]
darkest, most remote area of the planet to legitimately require "evidence". Don't even try. You may be the most partisan person currently on this board but you are clearly not stupid, and you would have to be. I would love to see Bush indicted and there are people still working on it. Personally, I think it is more important to work on fixing the mess he left, gargantuan as it is. Never said Clinton was an angel, but show me a man who would not lie when he has cheated. Makes him a lousy husband, that is all. I also hate NAFTA and the fact that he pushed it; however, he did not start rewarding major corporations with tax breaks to encourage them to do it. Clinton did a dumb thing; Bush did a really lousy, rotten thing. If I had to choose, I would pick dumb over lousy and rotten every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

One post from you, and I have had enough of you for today. I have better things to do.
So having an opinion and being passionate about conservativism makes me partisan? - Anon

This board is full of liberals who absolutely hate conservatives, who think we're knuckle-dragging ignorant red-necks. I happen to vehemently disagree with that characterization and have tried to stand up to some of the bullies on this board, many of whom are drive-by posters who show up for the evening.

Sounds like you think conservatives are supposed to just shut up and take it, and then ask for more. Well, sorry to disappoint you but that's not going to happen.
You are WAY past passionate. We don't hate - conservatives. And,
[ In Reply To ..]
we certainly don't expect you to "just shut up and take it". However, some common sense, common courtesy, and the ability to actually consider what other people post and not just react would be really nice. It amazes me how many times I have seen some really thoughtful, eloquent posts come up and practically the instant it is posted, you have a nasty response. You clearly did not consider before you posted-the response was almost instantaneous. Not every time, but I have seen it enough to note the obvious.
And yes, you are excruciatingly partisan.
Excuse me, but when I see blatent lies posted, I will react. - Anon

THIS IS THE FAMOUS 'GREAT AND FREE HEALTHCARE' THAT REGULAR CUBANS RECEIVE

One of the greatest fallacies about the so called 'Cuban Revolution' has to do with healthcare.

Foreigners who visit Cuba, are fed the official line from Castro's propaganda machine: "All Cubans are now able to receive excellent healthcare, which is also free." But the truth is very different. Castro has built excellent health facilities for the use of foreigners, who pay with hard currency for those services.

Argentinean soccer star Maradona, for example, has traveled several times to Cuba to receive treatment to combat his drug addiction. But Cubans are not even allowed to visit those facilities. Cubans who require medical attention must go to other hospitals, that lack the most minimum requirements needed to take care of their patients.

In addition, most of these facilities are filthy and patients have to bring their own towels, bed sheets, pillows, or they would have to lay down on dirty bare mattresses stained with blood and other body fluids.

Of course he applauds it - it is getting this country more - closer to Cuba

[ In Reply To ..]
If he applauds it, aren't people awake? Aren't they saying - wait a minute, why is Castro so happy about it? If they don't I guess they really have been dumbed down by the media and cable stations.
