Obama applauds McConnell for backing earmark

Good for him. I commend him for at least saying it. - sam

He does on to say you can't completely do away with them. Which is an about face from his campaign promise when he said we will ban all earmarks.
Why can't states apply for federal assistance and they do up and down votes on those? Why do they have to tack earmarks on bills that have nothing to do with what the earmark is for? Earmarks are nothing more than enticements to get people to vote for stinky bills. Here you hold your nose and vote for this and we will give you $$$ for your state. The process should be SEPARATED. Doesn't mean the feds won't subsidize the states...but all the back scratching and pushing through stinky bills with earmarks would stop.
Now if he does THAT, it will be truly transparent. Given his history to now on transparency, I will take the wait and see approach.
But again, I commend him for at least saying it.
That is incorrect.... - sam

He not only said it, he held a bipartisan meeting and if you look in the picture, then Senator Barack Obama was included in the meeting.
Bush reached across the aisle a lot of times. More than Obama has. Google it.
I gave Obama credit...are you now willing to give Bush credit?
You have a very selective memory - Here is a bipartisan Obama/'Pub meeting
[ In Reply To ..]
I love C-Span.
nope..no selective memory. Follow the thread... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
First, I commended Obama for reaching across the aisle to McConnell on earmarks. Poster stated under my post that was more than Bush ever did. I made a post then showing that Bush had in fact reached across the aisle.
You guys beat me up even when I agree with Obama. lol.
Why should I follow the thread - When you don't?
[ In Reply To ..]
Please refer to about 144 postings below.
Sigh. I have no control over who changes threads as they go.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
threads start at the TOP. Try one more time to follow the thread and you will know I do not have selective memory as you accused me of. Why does the truth not enter into it for you? Again...I can't even agree with Obama without you folks jumping on me. LOL.
Blah, blah, blah. - sam

Sigh. You can have the last word now.
I commend Bush for acknowledging - his role in TARP

Recent interview:
Lauer: You went with the TARP Program.
Bush: We did.
Lauer: A lot of people now call it the bank bailout and they hate it.
Bush: Yeah, they do hate it. . . So I can understand the angst. But in my case, I wasn't worried about angst, personal angst, or contradiction, I was worried about the economy going down. And I believe TARP saved the economy.
Lauer: If you were president again and TARP came up again, you would do the exact same thing?
Bush: Absolutely, given the same circumstances. The other thing about TARP that people forget is we structured it so that the gover... the people would be repaid with a really good rate of return. And it turns out, that aspect of TARP, that's what happened.
Good for you. I was against it myself....not one of... - sam

his shining moments in my opinion. However, give all credit where it is due...Democrats voted for it overwhelmingly, including then senator Barack Obama. So I guess Bush and the Democrats share that one.
Yes, Boehner pleaded for votes on it. - I get popcorn to watch this
[ In Reply To ..]
The new Republican leader.
Yes, Barack Obama then voted for it. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Our current President. Along with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid...need I go on.
Can't we just agree that the Democrats passed it? They did. Most Republicans were against it...the numbers of voting records show that. They went up against their own party President and voted against what he wanted. Hard as it is to swallow, you can't blame this one on the Republicans. Yes, you can blame Bush for suggesting it; however, you have to also blame the Democrats for passing it.
Is there no fairness left at all?
No blame, I like it. - It was the right thing to do.
[ In Reply To ..]
Your Republicans figured out exactly how many needed to vote for it, who would be the "safest" in the next election, and that is how it was done. Duh! Only a regressive backwards thinking person would not have done it.
And only desperate people.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
can't stay on message...lol. The Dems on here flogging to blame TARP on Bush and the Republicans, then when you can't refute the numbers and Obama's name shows up on the yes list, suddenly it was a good idea and the Republicans cooked up the vote to look good.
Immploddinnngggg.....BOOM! ;)

so you can learn that it does not become you. :)
Since you seem to think you make the rules around here. - How many words
[ In Reply To ..]
does a post need to contain before it is not considered a "drive-by" insult? Nearly all of your posts are insulting, but they are immense, so I guess you consider it okay if the posts are long and tedious?
So do tell....oh CIC, how long does a post need to be before it isn't considered a "drive-by" insult?
First of all, my posts are not insulting...unless I am insulted first. - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Then I give what I get. However, I do not do drive-bys that contain nothing BUT an insult, which seems all you guys are capable of. I guess that comes from the frustration of having nothing to contribute.
P.S. Stop reading them if you find them long and tedious. Not rocket science.
Your posts are most certainly insulting, among other things - But, you
[ In Reply To ..]
wouldn't realize that would you? The reason you get what you call drive-by insults is because they are in response to your belittling, condescending, pseudointellect.
Stop stalking. You are looking really petty. nm - sam

You're stalking right back. Stalker...lol! - You
[ In Reply To ..]
should look it up.
Well, there you have it folks. Classic. - ....
[ In Reply To ..]
If you would like to stop being "driven-by" perhaps you should tone it down a bit. Insulting inflammatory posts such as yours are not conducive to a discussion. No wonder you are "driven-by."
You might want to consider discontinuing your drive-bys of the "drive-bys" too, although I would miss them. :)
Why not just ignore them if you find them insulting and inflammatory.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
rather than resorting to schoolyard drive-bys. You might want to curb your need to pile on also. Although I understand that it is the premier tool of the liberals on this board. :)
They're everywhere!! - Besides
[ In Reply To ..]
like I said, I enjoy seeing you stoop. Don't stop on my account. :) Just thought you might want to do yourself a favor.
Do you actually have anything to contribute other than stalking me? - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
Now you are looking petty.
You're so funny! When you carry on a back and forth and - call the one you

can't resist talking to, a stalker. ROFL
You just can't stand it when a thread doesn't go your way - I believe it is called "conversation"
[ In Reply To ..]
The only way I see the thread going is.... - sam
[ In Reply To ..]
is written evidence of Dems struggling to stay on message. Diversionary drive-bys don't help by the way...they just call attention to the implosion.
Why do you guys get so angry when people counter your posts? Instead of supporting the original post you just jump on the lecture/bash bandwagon. You might want to try a different approach.
Just sayin. Now you can have the last word.
I just listened to this - he isn't begging. - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't hear him begging. He explained why he thinks people need to act on this. He said these are the votes that your constituents sent you here to vote on on their behalf. He didn't do anything different than the democrats do when they get up and talk about certain bills.
I save my popcorn for the real entertainment - Like Weiner having a temper tantrum/hissy fit on the senate floor.

I'm Not A McConnell Fan By Any Means,Aug 11, 2017is getting ridiculous. For all of you who think Trump is the only one who knows what he is doing, you are so wrong. His constant badgering of anybody and everybody is why things are not getting done. I am not a fan of republican policies but if Trump wants to be a republican, then he should be supporting them, not bullying them. H ...

On Another Note, Biden And McConnell's Plan Dec 31, 2012This was before Obama's speech.
BTW, according to Sen. Corker, Obama wants to pay for the sequester cuts (and have them taken out of this new legislation) with the tax increase revenue and not reduce spending cuts already agreed to and not the deficit. Again, Obama doesn't know how to add or subtract. Taking in $80 billion and spending $60 billion does not give $80 billion towards spending reduction on the debt.

McConnell: May I Have A Plausible Explanation From Those In Transcription?Nov 06, 2014As I mentioned yesterday (and from what I have read from others since my last visit), I, too, have become an independent because of the nonsense I have seen from both parties.
That in no way means that I am for the abolition of parties, because I do believe one party often reins in the other, when the other goes "whack :)
In fact, I believe we may need MORE parties for those of us who don't agree with the whole kit and caboodle of a single party.
