Thoughts on the bill passed in the House today? Too little, too much?
I think it's a good step but there are no guarantees Big Business won't find loopholes. In fact, I'm quite sure they will try. In the meantime, however, it sends a good message that we will be watching.
I'm also sure the senate will take months with this. Will that lead to a watered-down version? I guess it depends on how hard the constituents press their elected officials.

;Below is a very brief part of an article I found at http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20091212/pl_afp/usfinanceeconomypoliticsbankingobama
"Lawmakers voted 223-202 to pass the 1,300-page legislation, a package of measures Obama's Democratic allies crafted in response to the global financial meltdown of 2008.
No Republicans voted in favor of the bill."
The reason I brought this up is there is a lot of talk on this board about President Obama excluding Republicans in talks about healthcare, etc. This vote is only an example of how willing the Republicans AREN'T to work with President Obama and what obstructionists they are. Obama has expressed a willingness to work with them, but their answer to that, as well, is NO.
Your point about them looking bad for meeting with Big Business, I'm not sure their constituents view that as being "bad." These are the same people who refer to people like you and me as "socialists," the ones that are in favor of big, big bonuses for executives in healthcare but against evening out the playing field so the consumer gets a break for a change. I don't know if they even realize the real damage these banks have done and the real damage being done by healthcare providers with such obscene salaries and bonuses.
To you and me, it looks bad for the Republicans to be catering to Big Business. I wonder if it looks bad for anyone else on this board.
