Economist on rising Obamacare costs: You are going to have

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Economist Chris Butler discussed the rising cost of health insurance plans rising next year under the Affordable Care Act, saying he expects the populace to express more outrage as they learn they will be priced out of health care options. Butler told Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT to expect more public demonstrations of anger as prices move upward. Right now, I think you do have to say that A, it’s failing and that B, I think next year, you’re going to have a bunch of people that don’t get the subsidies that make the premiums a little bit more affordable that are just going to riot because it’s just too expensive for most people if you don’t qualify for subsidies.” He stated he still objects to court rulings siding with the government requiring individuals to purchase insurance or pay a penalty. “You can go back to the Supreme Court decision on this. I’m still shocked that we are being told that our constitution says that it is allowable to force to people to buy something. When I hear people talk about forcing them, not only to buy something, but to make the penalty stiffer if they don’t, I just get queasy.” Butler also thinks there could be simple solutions to lower costs and cites buying plans across state lines as an example. “Do you know what New Jersey is anticipating, their’s in considerably less, as I recall, than Pennsylvania, yet we are not allowed to cross state borders to buy insurance. There are a lot of states, by the way, that have big cities on borders that are actually going to have huge increases but they border on a state that is quite reasonable in its growth in premium costs. We talked about that while all of this was being discussed back in 2010, some of the quick fixes you could make that would have a difference to our healthcare system, that was one of them, allow people to buy insurance across state lines to help equalize some of this stuff.” ;

It’s unconstitutional to force people to buy something they don’t want. It forces people who do have morality to help pay for abortions and Viagra for sex offenders and pedophiles. It is going to strangle small businesses and make the price of everything go up. Provisions will be passed as soon as possible when congress thinks we are not looking, that every single illegal alien in this country will be covered. What is so bad about that? We are already in a recession. Our government is borrowing money from countries that will soon come looking to collect. The idea was to drive them out of business and have a single payer system, which gives the government more control.

Once the govt. is paying the bill for all the citizen's healthcare, it can be held "hostage" to force us to conduct ourselves as the govt. dictates, i.e. what we eat, how much we are allowed to weigh, you fill in the blanks.

Think it can't happen? Think again. Great Britain, which has single payer healthcare already has "inspectors" whose job it is to go the homes of known obese people and check their refrigerators to see what they are eating. This is only the tip of the iceberg.

If it costs an incredible amount for a treatment that affects a significant percentage of the population, competition will force companies to find a better way.

With illnesses that only affect a small population, competition can still address those concerns better that government dictate can.

What is never mentioned is many providers refuse to - accept Obamacare, with.

Now, the Left turns this into an emotional discussion, with words like greed, caring, heartless, so the conversation never addresses these facts.

The one thing that does not get discussed or a lot of press is that the way that the system is designed.

There is not a lot of money left in America, the underclass is financially impoverished. The middle class is shrinking and the upper classes don’t participate.

There is, however a large pool of assets in the middle class and some in the lower and underclass that can be grabbed.

The way this system works is that the medical industrial complex works with the insurance complex and the overreaching government to set price points.

Price points on how much the medical industrial complex charges, and price points on how much the insurance charges. The government is the enforcer.

As insurance price points increase, and medical costs increase, and the government continues to say who gets what, the middle class can no longer afford insurance and they are dumped into Medicaid.

Medicaid pays everything, but is not free but instead dissolves assets to keep the whole ball going.

Anyone with assets in this country who cannot bow out of the system will be getting robbed.

Conclusion: Get out of the system while you can.

BTW, I am forced to deal with Obamacare and it is indeed a mess and I had insurance before it passed. What people don't realize is that the new standard set by O-care represents the old catastrophic extremely inexpensive coverage of a few years ago — massively high deductible, but dirt cheap. Only now, it is several times more expensive for the same terrible insurance.

what you are trying to say here. Health care is not free. The English, for example, pay a value added tax of 17%. It hurts each time they buy something but everyone in the country gets health care and no one has to declare bankruptcy just because they get sick. The cost of an office visit could conceivably go down if the doctor's office did not have to fill out so many forms but 75%? How did you come up with that?

What you get now with low tier policies. With deductibles and copays, most people only use in in cases of extreme illness. One plus is included screening and other preventative treatments.

Do you not realize that healthcare was rising before ACA was even thought of. If you want to know why the costs are going up, read your bills from hospital/doctor visits. Hospitals are charging ridiculous amounts and the insurance companies have to pay them. I talked to my insurance company recently and they said there is nothing they can do about paying these astronomical charges; it's all in the coding. The American Medical Association is the one who makes the codes so those are the ones you should be writing and complaining to. The ACA has helped many people get insurance, so sorry if those against it don't really care about those people but the ACA is not the "cause" of rates going up.

Well, who do you think was paying for it before, we were. Costs were transferred from the people who couldn't get insurance and using the ER for their care and we were paying for it. The reason ACA isn't working is because of those young people not getting insurance. Everyone should have gotten insurance if it was going to work right. So, blame the people who won't get insurance instead of ACA. Personally, I'd rather see national healthcare so now I guess you'll call me a socialist whatever. I watched Dr. Sanjay Gupta's piece on CNN this week where he was explaining why hospital costs were so high.
