You really think that Obama's healthcare is going to decrease the costs? Obamacare was pretty much a copy of Romneycare and that has done nothing but make healthcare costs rise in MA. Get a clue people.

Exactly! ... the ignorance!.. OBAMACARE is going - increase it more!.. People are amazing.nm

Why not put the blame where it belongs? The greedy - insurance companies. nm

Greedy insurance companies! Ain't that the truth! - Mcg

One would think that the U.S. could come up with some type of health care for everyone. Trouble is, anytime something like that is mentioned, republicans start screeching "SOCIALISM, IT WON'T WORK" and my personal favorite... "If you don't like it, why don't you just move!"

Health care shouldn't be a political issue; it's a human issue.
The problem with a single payer system is that - it sacrifices the quality for the many to accommod

You want to know why healthcare costs are so high? Point the finger at those who are using emergency rooms for routine care and never paying the bill. Point the finger at those who could afford to buy health insurance, but choose eating out, cell phones, and cable t.v., just to name a few things that people choose over paying for healthcare. Health care is not that unaffordable, it's just that we have so many who are not paying for their care. Many of these people are illegal immigrants. Flame away, but I would rather keep good healthcare that I have to pay for than end up paying more (and it will cost more), for a substandard government run plan. I thank God for those greedy insurance companies, every time I need healthcare.
Okay. Let's take a look at "eating out, cell - phones and cable TV (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't eat out, but I do have a Blackberry cell phone (including tax it's $56.19).

I have cable TV (including HBO and internet). If I rent a couple of movies the most that bill has been is $150.00.

Let's say someone goes off the edge and spends $300.00 a month eating out.

Those three items together come to $506.19. I don't know a health insurance policy that costs less than $700 or $800 a month.

After that, there's the deductibles and co-pays before the insurance even kicks in.

That's called being underinsured, and I believe a lot of people suffer from this.

I still say do away with the insurance companies, because they take away a lot more than $500.
You say take them away at the detriment to those - who actually like our insurance.
[ In Reply To ..]
The majority of the country was against Obamacare. Why should you get to take away my insurance (that I am perfectly happy with) because you don't want to pay for yours? You want to lower health care costs, I say again, talk to those who don't pay their bills.
It's not a matter of not WANTING to pay for - insurance. It's a matter of (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
not being able to afford insurance premiums, and if you can manage to pay for the premium, the deductibles and co-pays could VERY easily amount to over $1,000 (not counting other bills), and many people simply can't afford the insurance.

I receive Medicare, and in the last four months, I've had surgery requiring an inpatient stay AND a three-day stay for pancreatitis. I've got bills coming all over the place. Most of them aren't that high, thanks to Medicare. It's too bad that everyone can't be on Medicare. At least you have a chance to be able to pay your bills. It's not like that with many private insurance companies.

Nobody wants to take away YOUR insurance. (And you wrote a downright lie when you said I want to. and I challenge you to show me where I wrote that.) You're very fortunate if you can afford it.

I still say it's the insurance companies and their greed that's the problem.
You said that you wanted to do away with insurance - companies.
[ In Reply To ..]
My saying that you want to take mine away is not a downright lie. If my insurance company is done away with, it is not there for me, correct? I still disagree with your way of thinking and I do believe that many people could afford insurance if they cut back in other places. They are just unwilling to do so. I did not say that you, personally, could afford it, but many who are without insurance are without insurance by their own decisions. Then, when they are sick, they whine and howl about how expensive it is to buy a plan or that an insurance company will not sell to them. We live in a ridiculous gimme gimme society.
Companies, yes. Coverage, no. Nobody wants - to take your health (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
insurance away, lady. I just wish more people had access to affordable health insurance. Obviously, you disagree.
How can you take away my insurance company - without taking away my insurance?
[ In Reply To ..]
The thing is that I (and other tax paying citizens) pay for the healthcare for the poor already, but that's not good enough. Now, they want to bring my standard of care down (theirs, as well), at a greater cost to me and other tax payers because there is no bureaucracy that runs more efficiently than private enterprise and I am just supposed to say that's fine. If I don't, I am heartless. It's ridiculous.
ARE you one of those that - must have the best?
[ In Reply To ..]
And do you begrudge those who aren't as fortunate as you? You're honestly beginning to sound like one.

How much is your monthly premium, by the way? That would explain a lot.
Am I one of those that has to have the best - health care?
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes. I like to have the best health care. Do I begrudge those less fortunate than myself? Of course not. I donate to multiple charities and I am not rich. Far from it. I begrudge those who are able-bodied and choose to live off of the system and I begrudge those who do not pay their own way; those who think they deserve the money that my hard work earns, while they sit at home and do nothing. I am one of those people.
Why would I strive to have anything other than the - best? I certainly
[ In Reply To ..]
don't want the worst.
Again, how much are your monthly premiums? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
Why do you think that's any of your business? - But they are not nearly as high as
[ In Reply To ..]
you think they are. I would not ask what your religion is or what any of your bills run. It's none of my business. If I wanted to answer, I would have.
I offered up that information to you since I have - nothing to hide. (sm)
[ In Reply To ..]
I know that through large corporations, there are often sweetheart plans at sweetheart prices.

I also know of plans that cost almost a thousand dollars a month with high deductibles and co-pays.

Since you love your coverage so much, I'm guessing you belong to the former group, in which case I don't blame you for not wanting to lose your coverage.

Just be aware that there are others out there who simply cannot afford premiums. You seem to want to blame people for "not wanting" to pay their premiums, and I believe there are more people who simply cannot afford to pay high premiums, deductibles and co-pays. They are the underinsured.

I hope you keep the benefits you enjoy. I hope even more that more people could afford the premiums to be able to have insurance like yours.

Again, nobody wants to take away your insurance. Instead, I'd like to see more people afford the kind of plan you have. For many people, it's cost prohibitive. It's not simply black and white as you seem to think there is. There are a multitude of reasons that people can't afford to pay for health insurance.

Your tone does sound very judgmental against people who have less than you do. Maybe the day will come when your coverage simply isn't as great as you think it is today. That happens to a lot of people. I hope it doesn't happen to you.

You offered up information that may or may not - be true and I choose not to offer up mine.
[ In Reply To ..]
You would never really know if I was lying, anyway. As far as being judgmental against people without insurance, you really do not know where I am coming from. I have, in the past, been without insurance and have had to pay a very high emergency room bill because of my decision (yes, my decision) to use my money for other things. The difference between me and those who I find offensive is that I did pay my bill. I did not simply write it off because it should be someone else's responsibility because I chose to do something with my money other than purchase insurance. I could have paid for insurance and I chose not to. It really is lucky for me that I only ended up with one ER bill. Lesson learned. The reason that I think that many people choose to go uninsured is because I know that I did. I know that many others do to. It is possible to afford insurance, but it is easier to allow others to foot the bill for you.
What is going to increase costs is the failure to pass - a public OPTION. NM

Pfft! That's no surprise, they were going to, anyway. - All the while lowering our pay still more.

Why Healthcare Costs So Much In America - Apr 23, 2017
Not for those who are too impatient to read anything longer than a paragraph. While our earnings are being ground into dust, the HC providers we ultimately work for are marking up everything they deliver by 300%, 400% and more, making outsize profits and paying obscene salaries to executives.  Example:  A patient charged $1.50 for a generic Tylenol pill when you can buy a bottle of 200 for $4.00 from Walmart (2 cents a pill).  https://www.walmart.com/ip/39661523 ...that's ...

Healthcare's Bipartisan Problem. Almost Half Of Healthcare SpendingJan 13, 2017
healthiest half of the population consumes only 3% of health care costs. The only alternative would appear to be taxpayer subsidies. It is next to impossible, politically, to take away freebees once in place. Income redistribution continues to increase. The 2010 health law, also known as Obamacare, forced insurers to sell coverage to anyone, at the same price, regardless of their risk of incurring big claims. That provision was popular. Not so were rules requiring nearly everyone to have ins ...

Big Jump Seen In Health Costs For Employees Oct 14, 2009
As companies begin unveiling their workplace benefits for next year, many employees are learning they will have to dig even deeper into their pockets for health coverage. Such price increases have become a fact of life during open-enrollment season, when workers sign up for their health plans. But the jump is expected to be steeper in 2010 than this year, as employers struggle with the impact of the recession and continually rising insurance costs. Employees will pay $4,023 on average in premiu ...

Eye-opening Information On Hospital Costs.Jul 05, 2012
I watched Dr. Sanjay Gupta's piece on CNN this week where he was explaining why hospital costs were so high.  Of all the bills collected by the hospital from all sources they only end up actually collecting 4%, that's 4 cents for every dollar billed!  To compensate, they bill accordingly so they come out even or ahead, $800 for a disposable chest tube that in reality costs less than $50 from the supplier.  This was really shocking to me!  To be fair, labor need ...

Health Care Costs RiseSep 12, 2012
