Dr. Benjamin Carson

Posted: Feb 12, 2013

I watched part of his speech at the prayer dinner while Obama sat there looking angry and in his own thoughts. He said he prayed before he went up there to talk to ask God to give him the right words to say. And he did. If you can catch the speech on YouTube or a transcript, and catch an interview when he was on Hannity you will see what a real leader looks like. He made nothing but sense and said the things Mitt Romney should have said or for that matter, any Republican Conservative, have they all lost their souls in Washington?;

"sat there looking angry" is a judgment - nm

[ In Reply To ..]

Yes it is, - and it's accurate.

[ In Reply To ..]
What's your judgment on his demeanor?

what's my judgment? - doe

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't have a judgment on his demeanor. I observed the president listening to a speech. You can ascribe anger to his face if you like, but nothing makes your assessment accurate.
People who say they make no judgment - don't realize
[ In Reply To ..]
that even using terms like "observed" and "ascribe" is a judgment. I see that you even judged the OP by telling him/her that "nothing makes your assessment accurate."
I make judgements about - people who make judgements
[ In Reply To ..]

about people who make judgements!

vocabulary review - doe
[ In Reply To ..]
Observe is not a judgment; it characterizes nothing. Ascribe is not a judgment; it characterizes nothing. Assessments are simply assessments. We could call them opinions. There is nothing judgmental about reminding the OP that nothing makes an opinion accurate.
In my judgment - you are wrong.

;)
I laugh merrily - doe
[ In Reply To ..]
At least I think I am laughing merrily. You probably know for sure. Perhaps I am laughing impudently. I will have to check with someone who understands the difference between objective and subjective and get back to you.

Personally, I think he looked - Fanatical Hypocrite

[ In Reply To ..]
a little perturbed about the whole thing. I'd say 50% "Don't looked pissed for the cameras," 30% "Where's he going with this," 10% "I have to use the restroom," and 10% "I'm sick of these things." Maybe a hint of "I wish I actually was a dictator so I didn't have to just sit here and take it."

All and all a normal human reaction to sitting for 30 minutes listening to guy hint that you're a failure. I know how he feels. I'm having flashbacks to Thanksgivings with my family, so I can hear aunt telling my mom how her kids are so much better than me while my grandfather tells us about how the universe is losing molecular cohesion because of those darn kids and their rap music. All the while I just concentrate on one mouthful of food at a time.

On second thought, Obama and Carson were fine together.

So? We're not allowed to - judge Obama's demeanor?

[ In Reply To ..]
Since when?

of course you're allowed - oy vay

I just finished watching it on Youtube - Fanatical Hypocrite

He seems like a good guy and abnormally smart for a doctor:) And I'm always glad to see people trying to make a difference in the private sector. While each individual's efforts alone amount to very little in the grand scheme, it is the combination of those efforts that creates real change and thus each individual's effort is essential. Relying on the government for everything doesn't work since there is no government. It's just us in suits.

I also agree with his statements about political correctness to a certain extent. There's a big difference between political correctness and politeness. Similarly, I've never cared for etiquette and was glad to see the concept die in modern society, yet it seems a lot of people threw politeness out with the admittedly dirtied Victorian era bathwater. Unfortunately, both the PC and anti-PC crowds go way too far. I know a member of PETA that won't let me say things like "beat a dead horse" or "two birds with one stone." On the other side, I had a conversation (generous term for one-sided, hate-filled monologue) at the laundromat a couple years ago from a gentleman (disheveled crazy person) who informed me that the reason Obama wasn't a good president is because African-Americans have a smaller frontal lobe than us (apparently the KKK started their own Discovery channel). I did not disagree as I feared his counterpoint would involve knives.

Where I separate from him is on a Bible-based tax system. For those that didn't watch it, he proposed using a "tithe system." For instance, in the Bible, you give 10% of whatever you've got (he stated implicitly it didn't have to be that number for clarification). As he said, the person with 10 dollars gives 1, the person with 10 billion gives a billion. The great irony of this is that the Bible-based tithe system was used for well over a millenium in Europe to keep the poor pinned under the boot heel of the land owning aristocracy. The man with 10 dollars needs way more than his 10 dollars to live; the man with 10 billion needs only the tiniest, miniscule fraction of that to live.

See, the problem with the Bible as an economic adviser is that 2 millenia passed since the last book and besides inflation, the modern economic system bears almost no resemblance to back then. While I could get behind a no loopholes, no deductions, no bonuses system with an hierarchical income tier system, the idea that everyone pays the same percentage would leave this country broke. It's not punishing success for four reasons:
1. You would still be really, really, really rich.
2. People will be able to invest in your business, buy your product or work for your company if they are alive, happy and healthy, so by investing in society, you're investing in yourself.
3. Why is money now THE declaration of success? See how long any civilization lasts when the accumulation of wealth is its exclusive goal.
4. Considering that CEOs don't work as hard as so many who get paid so much less, the least they could do is shut up and take a couple percentage points higher tax to compensate for the inequality in the system their lobbies created in the first place.

Finally, he misrepresented the War of 1812 as a battle for American freedom. The British were impressing U.S. sailors who were trying to sneak past their embargo lines to France, so we tried to annex Canada because somehow that would make us even. So, while the British were certainly in the wrong, our reaction to it was bizarre and idiotic. And he characterized it as an attempt by the British to conquer us that we threw back. The British never intended to re-conquer America. They were just teaching us a painful geography lesson. Then they left.

I didn't know that about the origin of the term bald eagle! So my plans to trap bald eagles and use Rogaine on them was doomed from the very beginning... (my friend in PETA just sensed a disturbance in the Force no doubt.)

I include the link for those who want to see it. It's almost half an hour.

Reuven Rivlin (Israeli President) Chides Benjamin Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister)Mar 27, 2015
For those unaware, Israel has both a Prime Minister and a President. The PM is the head honcho, but the President has lesser (but exclusive) powers.  Though both are members of the Likud party (conservative), President Rivlin is often considered "centre-right", while Netanyahu is considered "far right." (Think someone like John McCain or Mitt Romney vs. someone like Ted Cruz.) Just to refresh memories, in the article below, Israeli President Rivlin is referring  to this statement Ne ...

I understand the tea party group is pretty unpopular these days, but is this really a fair assessment?  IMO, the majority of the tea party members do not want to return to a day of slavery or lynching and it's completely unfair to group all the tea party members in with a few that might be racist.  I don't always agree with the tea party, especially the freshman members in congress, but I'd be willing to bet none of them want to hang anyone from a tree. I was told by one of my friends that I should watch Carson on Meet the Press...it was outrageous, funny, (all the other side political jabbing, you know how it goes, most of you do it with Hilary). I just had time to do it. This is the most reasonable I have seen th ...

Carson, et al. is in "trouble" for stating that a Muslim is not fit for office of the POTUS.    So, the discussion is why the radical actions of a religion should be the judgment for whether a person who ascribes to that faith can exclude that person from holding office as POTUS?
