So excited!!! After 24 years, I may be leaving MT forever! SM

Posted: Jan 18, 2012

Please, please, please keep your fingers crossed for me! I applied for a job with my State as a dispatcher, they called this morning and scheduled my polygraph (I know, lol). This is step 5 of about 9 steps but WOW I am almost there!!! According to the person that I spoke with this morning, if I pass the polygraph then I pretty much have the job, the rest is just "routine necessary stuff." I am so excited!!! At one time in my MT career I would have been taking a cut in pay but not any longer, I have not earned over $23,000.00 a year in a few years, no matter how hard I work. This job offers awesome benefits, PTO, a fantastic retirement plan that I am vested in after 4 years of employment and the best thing, it starts out at $36,000.00. The only draw back is that I will have to work a rotating shift and every other weekend but at least I will not be sitting in front of a computer waiting, hoping and praying for work to come through.

Again, please, please keep your fingers crossed for me and say a little prayer for me. I am so nervous about the polygraph and why, I have no idea, lol.

Good luck! - So jelly

I am looking around for something out of MT also. I have work that pays the bills but that's it ... no benefits, no security, and just the state of the MT field being what it is... so I am looking outside too.

Best wishes and I hope you enjoy your new job :)

Best of luck! - MT

Best of luck (although it sounds like you'll do just fine)! That just sounds fantastic :)

Good luck! Fingers are crossed for you. nm - Looking for a way out myself.

Like all who have posted here, I am trying to find out what I want to do when I grow-up (keep in mind I am 50). I thought it was MT, but you know the story, this is a fading kraft. I love stories of people getting out on a positive note.

Thank you guys so very much. As I said, I am so very, very (SM) - anon

excited, the polygraph just cannot get here soon enough, lol. Like all of you, I had hoped that things for MTs would get better but I just cannot see it any time in the near future. I am not getting any younger (45) and I think that I need to grab this opportunity while I can. After being home for almost 17 years I can honestly say that I look forward to getting up, taking a shower and going off to work like most people. The years at home have caused me to develop some insecurities but I have no doubt that I can overcome these with time (social anxiety). Where I was once a very independent person, I have found myself relying on my family more and more because of my constant need to be in front of the computer waiting and hoping for work to come in. Needless to say, I hope to find that independent person again, soon. I blame myself for allowing this to happen to me, I do not proclaim to be a victim, but finding something else to do is just not easy, especially with the economy the way it is.

If I am lucky enough to move on from MT, I will continue to hope and pray that things get better for each one of you. My heart will always be in medical transcription but my sanity and livelihood are not. I will keep you updated as things progress (hopefully). Again, thanks so much you guys!!!!

You are truly an inspiration. - thank you

Just posting that, you have just inspired me. I will turn 42 this year, also 17 years of being home, and I also have social anxiety issues. I dont want to be a victim either, and I have been looking for a while. I do believe my time will come too, but you just gave me some hope, so thank you.

You haven't made more than 23K? Then You MUST - MT

[ In Reply To ..]
You must be a LOUSY MT if you haven't made more than $23K in the last few years. Your work must be FULL of errors, or else you are just a lazy person.

(NOT REALLY, but the above is the gospel according to many on this board!)

I wish you the BEST OF LUCK, sister! You CAN DO IT! GO for it!! :)

Why would you even say something like that if you didn't mean it? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
That was just ridiculous! Best of luck OP!

That's what I was wondering, too. - (Subconscious, perhaps?) nm

[ In Reply To ..]
No, it was entirely conscious. - MT

You can stop trying to read others' minds because of course you can't do it.

I merely had an opening to make a point and took it.

When others start standing up and defending their MT sisters who are being attacked on this board, then I will stop posting such comments. Until that occurs, I will continue to make my point at every opportunity.

I made it CLEAR that I wished the OP the best, so I don't know what your problem is.

Good day.

Congrats! nm - Looking To Get Out, Too

Don't worry about the polygraph-- - Old and Tired MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to work for a sheriff's office and knew the polygraph guy. He doesn't care what your answers are (barring something illegal, etc.), just as long as you TELL THE TRUTH! That's what they are looking for and can tell by your respiration, pulse, etc. if you are lying. Just take a deep breath, relax, and don't worry. Good luck! (I wish I was a lot younger because I would be looking in another area besides doing MT).

Not always. I "failed" a polygraph. - me

[ In Reply To ..]
Polygraph guy said I failed the part about taking hard drugs. I've never even smoked pot in my life. This was in 1986, though. Maybe the polygraphs are "better" these days.

sounds great! - crossed fingers

If I were 25, and not in my 60s, I'd seriously look - into trucking, even long-haul.

[ In Reply To ..]
A friend of mine became a police officer. Hard work, but she loved it - said it was rewarding, no 2 days were ever the same, and she alternated between driving a cruiser and being a mounted officer on horseback. Retired at age 55, great pension.

Truckers aren't making a ton of money and it - is a hard life.

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked at a truck stop while I was in college and, believe me, nobody is getting rich off of it. Not to mention that they aren't really making good money at all, unless they own their own truck, but even with that, rising fuel costs and a broken economy make it hard to make it as a truckdriver. Pile on top of that the fact that you take showers in dirty places along the road, live on coffee and junk food and sleep in a truck and it would be a big no thank you for me, but I guess to each their own. :)

Beyond Excited!Sep 09, 2011
After debating back and forth between the Keurig coffee machine and the old-fashioned stovetop espresso machine, I finally ordered a Bialetti stovetop cappuccino maker.  It's so cool...The espresso brews in the bottom "well" and you put milk into the top "well" so it heats up while the espresso is brewing.  The fun part is, when it's all ready, when you pour it into your mug, it distributes just the right amount of espresso and milk to make the perfect cappuccino.  As a ...

Replaced Hip, Now PT Forever?Sep 04, 2013
A friend's mother had a hip replacement about 2-3 years ago. Now the physician tells her she will have to do physical therapy x2 times a week and said she would need it the rest of her life. I have never heard of anything like this. The mother is unable to afford extra $$$ per month to go that many times a week and says she can swing maybe twice a month. Has anyone else heard of forever ongoing PT for a hip replacement? TIA. ...

Tribute To My Best Friend. He Changed My Life ForeverAug 02, 2013
I lost my best friend on July 31st.  He was almost 13 years old, a mixed Lab dog.  How does this have anything to do with medical transcription, you might ask?  Because his life and death, especially his death, have forever changed my perspective on everything, including my involvement in this medical transcription industry, for which I take full responsibility, as nobody forced me into it.  I just thought I had no other choices.  My grief is compounded by the fact that ...

Doctors Will Be Leaving The Profession In DrovesJul 14, 2012
Doctors are threatening to leave healthcare due to Obamacare. Medicine is going to a cookie-cutter modality and PAs and NPs will be in the near future. Face it our healthcare is in the pitts because doctors are not allowed to treat anymore. The government will be your only healthcare. I am opting out of all this even if I have to pay a penalty. After age 59, you will get palliative care. It is basically a death care plan and getting rid of the elderly people and the very young because it c ...
