DNC bump...did I read this right?

Posted: Sep 7, 2012

I read that a Gallup poll today shows a 7-point bump in Obama's polling over last week....did I read that right??  I know it will probably come back down some, but that's a pretty healthy bump!

Noticed that there was no gigantic balloon drop at the end last night.  I don't know if the DNC has traditionally had all those balloons or not in the past, but I suspect it might have to do with the unplanned change in venue, where they weren't planning a balloon drop if it had been outside.  I liked it, though....have always thought the balloons must be SUCH a huge expenditure of campaign money.  I have to admit, it was cute to see the Romney grandkids scrambling for the balloons at the end of the RNC last week--that must've felt like a kids' wonderland, to be showered with all those balloons!  They are excessive, though.  Didn't Andrea Mitchell get swallowed up in the balloons four years ago?  Surprised  Smile

Ah, yes....here she is. - Poor Andrea! (s/m)

Here's Andrea Mitchell at the RNC four years ago. See her in there, a bit of blonde hair and maybe one eye peeking out while she was trying to report from the floor! It was one of those "I-felt-sorry-for-her-but-couldn't-help-laughing" moments. She's such a serious reporter, too...I'm sure she felt very flustered.

I pulled up Gallup and see a 3 point - bump - sm

I don't know where you read that, but I've pulled up three different sites that show a 3 point bump. That's good news for Obama. Still though they are about tied with each other, so is a little too soon to know. However, I know in the past years most candidates always gets a bump right after the convention. Then after that it either goes up or down depending on the economy and other factors.

All I know is its no slam dunk for either of them. They are going to need to work hard to get the vote, but it doesn't help much when you are in charge of a failing economy.

That's true (that it always bumps.... - Cassie (s/m)

...a little right after the convention) -- that's why I said I know it will come back down some. Still, if it's a 7-point bump, that would be a really good bump!

I read it from this link I'm posting below. Of course, it was on Huffington Post, and we ALL know what a bastion of liberal bias HuffPo is (LOL)....so if you say you are finding only 3 points, I'll take your word for it. Like I said, I wasn't sure if I was reading the 7-point increase correctly or not. (They say Obama went from a 45% to a 52% approval rating in the Gallup poll....thus the 7 points?)

I'll give credit where credit is due. - bump - sm

Nothing wrong with Huff Post, just like nothing wrong with Fox News or any of them. I'm not going to tell you your link is not credible. That would just be stupid on my part and reading overall the posts I see too many people calling others not credible just because they don't agree with them.

If he got a 7 point lead that's good news. I'll still look around and see if I can find other sources to verify it, but it's good for him. I'm not a democrat. Used to be, but Clinton ruined that for me :-) I think I'm like a lot of people. Liberal on certain issues, conservative on others.

I think Obama should enjoy this 7 points while it lasts (wait, is it still here) LOL I think the next couple months are going to be interesting.

Here's my feelings on this (again these are all just my opinion, and we are all entitled to our opinions).

1. I think this administration has been a huge failure in terms of collosal. The country has been lied to and the changes since 2009 have been for the worst and have been disastrous. No reason whatsoever unemployment should be that high, AND to have someone who is supposed to be in charge to act as though he doesn't care while he takes his multi million dollar vacations, which has been funded by tax payers. I think that is one of the worst travesties. A young family has lost their homes and jobs and he's announcing all his vacations and that is the best part of his job.

2. I dont agree with leaks of classified information.

3. I don't believe that you should vote for someone based solely on the color of their skin.

4. I don't agree that patriots are being called terrorist and that military are being called treasoners all because they disagree with the policies of an administration.

5. After 3 years Obama has not proven that he has the experience or knows how to do the job.

6. I think Romney has more experience and more knowlege and a better success history. He knows how to get people back working. He knows why it's important to not ship jobs overseas. Either Obams doesn't have experiene with that or he's doing it on purpose, which either way is bad.

7. I think people should be able to disagree about politicies without being beaten up by goons or called names, etc.

All in all I think Romney is the better candidate for the job. As for voting in my opinion the next president has already been chosen. We just get to sit here and argue and cut each other down if they belong to a different party. I'm now waiting just waiting for November. But if Obama was such a great president he would be leading in double digits. Not by 1 or 2 points.

And those are my puny little opinions.
He knows why it's important to not ship jobs overseas - curious

where you got this info about Romney. I believe he is all about outsourcing jobs. Obama has proposed a financial incentive to keep jobs here and a penalty for outsourcing/offshoring. IMO, offshoring is the main reason we are in this mess.

I was going to post a correction.... - (see message)

....but it looks like my original post stands--there was, indeed, a 7-point bump in Obama's polling numbers over the week of the DNC (as in the past 7 days).

The 3-point bump you pulled up on 3 different sites was the bump in his poll numbers in just the past 24 hours (as in the past 1 day).

Whether a bump of 3 points in one day or 7 points in seven days, those are still very healthy increases. And yes, I know the enthusiasm and interest can die down a bit after the convention; but all in all, I wouldn't be thrilled with the way public opinion is going right now if I wasn't an Obama supporter.

Just hearing and reading about this today. Thousands and thousands of Latinos are rushing to apply for citizenship here to vote against Trump. Most say the cost of becoming a citizen has been their main drawback, that being $680.00 but now even the legal ones feel threatened by what Trump has spouted off about. Tr ...

My surgeon did say an elevated CEA is usually more associated with colon cancer t ...

Does Mitt think this is okay?  NEW YORK (AP) -- Profits at big U.S. companies broke records last year, and so did pay for CEOs. The head of a typical public company made $9.6 million in 2011, according to an analysis by The Associated Press using data from Equilar, an executive pay research firm. That was up more than 6 percent from the previous year, and is the second year in a row of increases. The figure is also the highest since the AP began tracking executive compensation in 20 ...
