about President Obama speaking personally about the killing of Trayvon. I don't condone what Zimmerman did. It is my personal opinion that it is kinda hard to say you killed someone in self defense when you were chasing them. The 911 person told him to stop following him and that he had done enough. Do I think Trayvon was a saint and never screwed up in his life...no. As to the President...I don't think he should have gotten involved. I don't see him giving his condolences to every person who loses a loved one. I don't see him giving speeches about black on black crime. I don't see him talking about black on white crime...which happens quite a bit too. Can someone please explain to me what a white hispanic is? Zimmerman is of mixed race...but so is Obama. Do we call him a white African American? It is also sad that the media doesn't pick up on stories like the 9-month-old black baby who was killed by a bullet from a drive by shooting. Why isn't that story as important? Why isn't Obama giving condolences to THAT family and making a big deal about that?
I understand the outrage. This should NOT have happened at all. The president should NOT have gotten involved though especially since he didn't know all the facts. If Zimmerman is guilty, so be it. I, however, don't think it was a hate crime based on Trayvon's skin color. Do I think Zimmerman took his neighborhood watch too far...yes.
Now we have The New Black Panther Party pretty much threatening to kill Zimmerman and so much racial tension going on. I know racism is out there, but what truly gets me is the hyprocrisy of those who cry racism and then turn around and say the most racist and hateful things and think nothing about it.
;I don't think he should have been asked the question in the first place. Let's be honest - The reporter certainly would not have asked that question to Bush.
When you say, "some people will never agree with anything our president says or does," believe me, it's not that Obama is being singled out. I don't know of any president who wasn't criticized brutally and put under the microscope practically daily. The only exception I can think of might have been President Kennedy, but he also had many critics.
On the other hand, I think it's a lose/lose situaton when ANY president singles out one tragedy. I have my own thoughts about the Treyvon death. I haven't weighed in on the debate below, since it seems like it's changing on a daily basis with more and more information coming out. Since we weren't there, we don't know what happened. And I don't even know if the police know, at this point, what actually happened. It's irresponsible for the media to try and convict a man before the facts are known. I can't imagine Zimmerman getting a jury that is not tainted when the media have weighed so heavily on this and even tried to bring the president into the mess.
