Curious. If O wins, will there be a civil war. If R wins

Posted: Oct 18, 2012

I am not liking the United States anymore and it seems since Obama took office, a lot more countries absolutely hate us.  I believe Obama administration is covering up the Libya attack so it will not make Obama look like he is "weak" when it comes to running our country.  Now there was a near bombing in New York Federal Reserves.  Supposedly, Iran was the one who did the cyber attacks at United States Banks.

R is getting death threats.  Someone had a gun shoot a bullet through a window at one of O's compaign offices in Colorado.

I serioulsy wonder..... DO YOU THINK WE WILL HAVE A CIVIL WAR AND PROTESTS AND KILLINGS here in the United States and would it be in Virginia, New York, or all the States.   After all, it is going on in other countries.

I wish I could live in Victoria Island, B.C.

not divisiveness. This nation has been and is divided by the two party system, seen more now because it is an election year. We are totally "against" ourselves as a nation. If one "side" suggests something positive for the US, the other side vetoes it or votes against it more out of spite and the "desire to be right" than anything else. Greed and money are at the root of everything. Taking money from the general public, in the form of taxes, is now seen as a lucrative "business" to those in office, rather than a necessity to "run our country" in an effective manner. Civil war??? I SURELY hope so! Anything else would fall short of bringing this once great nation back to its most honorable state!

Not with 288 recalcitrant dishonest brokers who have pledged - to bring him down, some

of whom are armed with the filibuster WMD, and all of whom are dedicated to executing an open fatwah against him. That's not his job. Please spare us the comparison with Harry Truman and his "do nothing" Congress or Calvin Coolidge's valiant efforts to "get along." They were not contending with the marshaled forces of millions and millions of foot soldiers taking their orders from broadcast and virtual media command stations, engaged in and dedicated to their self-serving, unholy causes, the collateral damage of which pits us against each other and brings our nation to its knees.

It is not the president's job to fix that, nor is it the corrupt reps' jobs who we repeatedly send back to DC election after election after election. WE are the ones who have offered up our personal integrity for sacrifice on the altar of hyperpartisanship and have allowed our nation to crumble out from under our own feet.

If we cannot recognize the role each one of us plays in reversing this situation (and I have my doubts), then I too would welcome civil war. It's been done before, to some degree even in my own lifetime, and on those occasions, we have emerged a stronger people and a better nation, but that too was before the injection of virtual technological warfare elements into the mix. This current undertaking is a brand new challenge that seems to be overwhelming all of us.

Our "leader," regardless of which affiliation he or she holds, serves at our beckoning, and is only one singular imperfect human being. It is pure folly to look to that person to unify us. That's OUR job, not theirs. I suppose when we're we done with dumbing down, rolling around in the mudpits, throwing verbal and literal gotcha punches and conferring 15-minutes-of-fame hero status on our media and elective counterparts who can out-nasty all the rest, we might have a chance of correcting our course.

Step one is to get to the polls. Step two is to realize that once the chosen leader is sworn in, our FIRST responsibility is to accept the results and throw our SUPPORT behind them in the spirit of moving the country forwards, NOT retreating to the sandbox and throwing a 4-year tantrum.

Failing that, then bring on that civil war, because (like trickle down eco) this my-way-or-the-highway approach, whining and blame games are never gonna work.

I agree with much of what you say, but.... - anon

as I see it, the corrupt reps that we repeatedly send back to DC election after election is pretty much our ONLY option, as there is nobody ELSE to vote for! No "real man" or "real woman" will step up to the plate and voice effective changes to our govt. Even in this presidential election, many voters are seeing it as a "lesser of two evils" type of thing, and not that any one of us truly LIKE who we are voting for or feel that they will affect any real change that has a positive impact on things. Again, it is the bipartisan system that is making it difficult. This side has chosen so and so to run, so if you are a member of this side, this is who you vote for, whether you agree with his values or not. The same goes for the other side. We need somebody or something to kick these 288 recalcitrant dishonest brokers out of our govt altogether, find some HONEST people to represent us, restructure the whole congress, senate, and all the other departments, plugging all the loopholes, ending of presented "bills" to be voted on with sneaky "add ins" that are supported only to a single entities bank account and against the tax payers wallets. We need to stop the bribery, payoffs, contributions, and deceit, and start all over again, building back a govt the way it was meant to be 200 some odd years ago, with God in the forefront, and the betterment of ALL mankind, not just the select few who have sureptitiously gotten themselves "elected" by any means possible. As I see it, no matter who becomes our "fearless leader" in November, we are already doomed to failure. Blame games, whining, and my way or the highway approaches haven't worked, but neither is the current regime!

I disagree with your statement that "This side has chosen so and so to run, so if you are a member of this side, this is who you vote for, whether you agree with his values or not. The same goes for the other side."

I have only once before voted a straight ticket and if there would have been a better choice, I wouldn't have voted for "either of the above."

Also, I think they did pass a bill limiting earmarks or disallowing them altogether (can't remember today). The amendments are why a lot of bills are not passing. It's the amendments that take up so much time in the debating process when the main bill comes up.

BTW, read where Sen. Bob Casey(D) is having a wee problem in PA. PA is supposedly a democratic-leaning state, but Casey is falling behind. This tells me that even PA may be tiring of professional politicians.

The only problem with fresh-faced, honest people in government is that you need a fortune to run for office and most honest people aren't rich.

We do need to stop the SuperPACs and stop allowing lobbyists and big business to contribute to elections as a whole. Obama had stated if he was elected, there wouldn't be any lobbying done. It would stop i

It's hard to get "mud-slingers" a/k/a who I would call uncouth (sp).

Do you ever read comments on newspaper columns? Some of those comments are downright nasty with cursing, name-calling, and most of all, they really don't add anything constructive to the discussion. It's impossible to have a decent discussion with them.

Now, you'll get a bit upset with my next comment but try not to be mean...I'm tired today. :-)
When Obama first became president, his attitude was my-way-or-the-highway. I was shocked when someone from the other party wanted to speak to him about some bill (I can't remember who or what), and he stated very arrogantly, "I'm the President." My mouth dropped open over that. I think that's what started this whole partisanship in Congress big time...he snubbed this guy from the very beginning and you don't do that. You don't have that chip on your shoulder. You work with the other side.

is important for our own comfort to keep it in perspective. Victoria has people too, so I wouldn't bother moving. It might help to restore balance by taking a little break from this board, though--it's not exactly a representation of "normal" society. Some of us are just alone at home and interested in politics, but others of us unload here because no one we're actually acquainted with agrees with us.

Read responsible publications--like the New Yorker on line. That'd be good medicine--gentle, civilized humor combined with responsible discussions of a whole range of topics.

For politics right now Amy Davidson's written about "Mitt's Binders and the Missing Women"--a good read, and in the culture section someone else about humor in the debate--also missing, of course. :)

SM- you are outa your mind. Of course they hate us - they just love the money we give them. We are the "infidel" and need to be destroyed according to their Koran. A complete lack of social and historical perspective? We had a civil war here in the past - nothing to say it couldn't happen again. Sometimes this board amazes me.

Does It Matter Which Party Wins? Jul 02, 2011
Congratulations!! People's World Endorses Obama and Dems in 2012. Does it matter which party wins? It is obvious that there is a growing feeling of frustration and even anger among supporters of the Democratic Party with its performance over the past two years. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, speaking for the labor movement, strongly expressed this unhappiness in some recent speeches. I am disappointed too with some aspects of the Obama administration's domestic and foreign pol ...

History: If No Last-minute Dem Shenanigan, R Wins And O Loses.Sep 20, 2012
Since Truman, no incumbent has been reelected with a poll number below 49% at this point in the election cycle.  I am omitting Bush 2, who had 48% but whose reelection ultimately had to be decided by the courts so I think you have to simply toss this election out when looking at voter trends.
