Chris Matthews had a cow

same phrase she did, "shuck and jive." Here's her brilliant response:
"For the record, there was nothing remotely racist in my use of the phrase 'shuck and jive' – a phrase which many people have used, including Chris Matthews, Andrew Cuomo, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to name a few off the top of my head. In fact, Andrew Cuomo also used the phrase in reference to Barack Obama, and the fact that Mr. Cuomo and I used the phrase in relation to President Obama signifies nothing out of the ordinary. I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obama’s in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up.
"I’ve been known to use the phrase most often when chastising my daughter Piper to stop procrastinating and do her homework. As she is part Yup’ik Eskimo, I’m not sure if this term would be deemed offensive when it’s directed at her or if it would be considered benign as in the case of Chris Matthews’ use of it in reference to Rachel Maddow. Just to be careful, from now on I’ll avoid using it with Piper, and I would appreciate it if the media refrained from using words and phrases like igloo, Eskimo Pie, and 'when hell freezes over' as they might be considered offensive by my extended Alaska Native family.
"The outrageously outraged reaction to this expression from perennial hypocrites like Chris Matthews has only made me laugh. Mr. Matthews, let me share with you my favorite Irish toast: 'May we always be happy, and may our enemies always know it.'”

about what she says. I'm with Chris Matthews, after many many derogatory comments towards Obama for the last few years, this is just another in a long line of them. They should be ashamed because they know better and only try to rile their idiotic base.

So your idiotic theory is, if any "whitey" uses even a remotely black term, it is by definition racist? Shuck and jive was commonly used in the 70's when I was growing up by all races.
So if a black person uses a white persons term, then using idiotic logic, then the black person is racist.
Shuck and jive is a benign term. My critism of Obama has nothing do to with his color. It is because he is a marxist (his idols growing up were marxists, anti-colonialists, marxist professors in college, etc., etc.) and because he is destroying the country just like Jimmy Carter. I also find Obama elitist (he thinks he is the smartest person in the room and we are all his subjects). Obama cares about only one person, Obama.
If you don't like Sarah Palin, don't listen to her and what do you care if other people listen to her or like her? What, you only believe in free speech if it is what you agree with?

These people know exactly where the line is and they rush right up and plant their toes on it. They're not fooling anybody except the willfully ignorant.
I don't think anyone can claim plausible deniability that "shuck and jive" has racial connotations. Given Sarah Palin's track record, it's incredibly disingenuous to defend her use of it.
I hate political correctness. I hate sneaky racism a lot more.
Oh for goodness sake, not the faux racism accusations again - get over it

I'm white and my parents said it to me growing up.
In 2008 Salon wrote an article. Here is an excerpt:
"New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said the thing that’s great about New Hampshire is that you have to go out and meet people rather than “shuck and jive” through press conferences there."
Shuck and Jive:
1. Messing around, acting bafoonish, playing foolishness, "bs" conversation.
2. Shuck: To get rid of, ditch, throw away. To try to shed your true image in favor of a false one.
Jive: Trying to adopt a new social status, pretending to be "all that" + a bag of pentium chips.
Rig likes to shuck and jive about his "new" system. Man, dude is running a 286.
3. It has been adopted into non-Afroamerican speech, with a reference to behavior adopted in order to avoid criticism.

Knock off the phony racism allegations.
You take away the seriousness of racism when you post something that isn't racist.
I've read all the posts there is no posters here that loathe Obama. So knock off the false allegations too.
Romney on the other hand, the board is infiltrated with Romney haters.

reinforce my assertion that Palin et al know exactly where the line is and sail right up to it. They don't cross over into overt racism; they know better. Palin's neither smart nor savvy, but she's clever enough to know this (or has someone cluing her in).
There are none so blind as those who will not see, and if you don't see the thinly-veiled racism in using that phrase to describe this president, then that's because you don't want to. You may not be a racist, but you're an enabler.

used Shucks and Jive in my sentences.
Shucks was terminology used (because we got our mouths washed out with soap if we cursed) if something went wrong with whatever I was doing and Jive because it was a type of music and speech that was popular back then.
So, thanks for pointing out that I'm a racist. Ya never know [shaking my head] these things until it's pointed out to you.
What will the racist word be next week? Tune in to Chris Matthews...sure he'll come up with another one. Could it be "the President?" Could it be a brand of car? Stay tuned.
Of course, I'm being sarcastic because comments like that are foolish and ridiculous and anyone who believes that crap needs their head examined.

This thread was about Chris Matthews stating Shuck and Jive were racist words.
Then you answer me with why you even bother? Yeah, I'd like to know why you DO bother except to needle others all the time. You usually don't add much to a discussion.
On that note, I hate to do this 'cause I know you'll miss me but I need to leave for today.

There are lots of innocent uses for the phrase (as in the lyrics of the song "Good Enough for Grandpa" by Squirrel Nut Zippers) but as I said above, given Sarah Palin's track record, I don't think her use of it was innocent.
