Just catching up on the board and noticed the myth of Ambassador Chris Stevens being "dragged through the streets" repeated several times. I replied to one such instance below, but I'd like to bring it to the top for any who might not scan the board fully since I think it's really important in terms of anti-Muslim sentiment to try to dispel such a horrible assumption.
Photos of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens Dragged Through the Streets- Fiction! |
Summary of the eRumor: |
The Truth: The photos are real and were taken on September 11, 2012 from a video after Ambassador Stevens was found in the wreckage of the sacked Benghazi Outpost. The photos and video have been misinterpreted into something other than what they documented, a rescue. According to a September 18, 2012 article by the Associated Press, "Libyans tried to rescue Ambassador Chris Stevens, cheering 'God is great' and rushing him to a hospital after they discovered him still clinging to life inside the U.S. Consulate, according to witnesses and a new video that emerged Monday from last week’s attack in the city of Benghazi." Eleven years after the terrorist attack of the World Trade Center in New York, there was an attack on the U.S. Consulate Outpost in Benghazi, Libya where U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens along with three members of his U.S. embassy staff were killed. Shortly after that violence erupted around the world at the sites of various U.S. Embassies. |

As a former Muslim, I can assure you that shouts of "Allahu Akbar" are usually made under positive, hopeful circumstances, like the initial discovery of Chris Stevens being alive at the time.
;I don't think it's unreasonable to make a statement like yours after well over 12 hours. This, however, was after just about 3 hours, and in regards to a midnight-hour posting on a weekend at that, lol.
