Gee, I hear more Matthews' own rants on lunatics and racists than I do about comments directed at him. We must watch different TV shows.

After all, his ratings picked up for awhile and Fox is going down, so he is hoping to get a few converts in his 7 o'clock slot. He comes from a Republican family and grew up working class. Despite what he says now, I have heard tell he actually WAS pushing for the Iraq war (I did not watch him way back then).

Chris' main style is not to let anyone who disagrees with him talk, and to "annihilate" his opposition by impassioned speech over the top of them. Sometimes, when faced with an inarticulate opponent, this exposes them, but all in all it is not pretty to watch, no matter whose side you are on.

The video below is rather lengthy, but when interviewing Colonel Davis you see this brutal style and probably conservatives would applaud it, cutting off all but what he wants to hear with his idiotic self-righteousness. Personally, as a liberal, I will turn down the volume until he senses a change in the wind again.

Chris maintaining his ratings means he needs to hold on to his middle ground, and I believe he truly is more of a conservative, like Tuck Chodd, another one to my mind, and I don't like watching either of them when they get on this particular bent, but at least there is some room for diversity at MSNBC.

BTW, I bet the management/money people of MSNBC love this stuff.
