Blizzard churning toward NYC, New England could rewrite record books with up to 3 feet of snow

Video: A huge snowstorm is expected to bring blizzard conditions and hurricane-force winds to the Northeast. The massive storm could drop two feet of snow in New England and is expected to hit Friday.

Perfect weather for working at home. Or not working, as the case may be. I love snow (minus the shoveling) and'll be imagining watching snowflakes out the window instead of lounging in the sun by the canal this afternoon. doesn't go out again like it did when I lost it for 9 days because of Sandy. My house got down to 40 degrees then, and that was just in autumn. Now the temperature outside is 23 degrees with the wind chill. A power outage would definitely be problematic.

If we build another house, I swear it'll have a core we can retreat to and heat in the worst of weather. I'm afraid our home in north Georgia has as many windows as it lacks doors. Our fireplace is a wood-burning EPA-sanctioned furnace, but the way the house is laid out it'd have to heat much more than it's capable of in the temperatures you're facing now.

Funny thing is, our first year in Georgia from Southern California we rented an old single-wide mobile home, a metal box with 3" thick walls, wind whistling underneath, the temps dropped to single digits and teens in our first-ever ice storm, the power went off (some areas up to 6 weeks), a half million people were without power because of all the unburied power lines, many thousands having to abandon their powerless homes, but we were comfortable in a trailer because we had a gas cookstove and a tiny space to heat. I really, really should have taken a lesson. We didn't even put in propane.

Oh, well. I imagine you're in much better shape at home up there. It's up to what you can't control, and maybe that's a little more prepared now too.

At the risk of getting tomatoes thrown at me for those people in the north, here in SW Florida, we're not used to cold weather. It's 56 today, and going into the 30s tonight. I can't stop shivering. Sorry if this post is long-winded. Every year the fleas get worse and worse. I'm trying to head it off this year before I get an infestation with the warmer weather.
