2nd confirmed U.S. case of MERS in Florida. sm

Patient was a healthcare worker who was working in Saudi Arabia. Patient is now in quarantine in Orlando (Florida Hospital) but had been on multiple planes on his trip, to include stops in London, Boston, and Atlanta.

Allegedly not easily transferrable from person to person, though about a third of the total number of people infected so far have died from it.

they should be quarantined the minute they are getting on that plane from Saudi Arabia and kept away from other passengers. Bad enough they couldn't control Methicllin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, now we have another organism entering the country. Let's stay in our own countries - you 'do-gooders' think you are performing a service, but you're actually bringing back harmful entities. I really wish we as a country would mind our own business - just for a change.

There is way too much uncontrolled travel in this country. Frankly, people from disease-ridden countries should not be allowed to travel to the U.S. without some serious disease checking, and people from the U.S, returning from those countries should also have to be tested for this and that. Trouble is, this and that don't necessarily show up on a lab right away or show symptoms.

So far, this is a free country, so if you choose to go somewhere that is disease-ridden for whatever reason, please stay there.

I agree it's irresponsible to knowingly get on a flight with a known illness, but sometimes you have to travel.

I know a civilian U.S. flight nurse who is currently based in Afghanistan and travels constantly from there to UAE and all over the world on a weekly basis. I sent her a message asking if they have instituted special precautions regarding MERS but she hasn't responded back yet. I'll post when she does.

But she did not mention any day-to-day precautions they are taking for patients from other parts of the Middle East.
