If you haven't seen the ad that's causing a flurry among the very, very delicate Republicans, check it out:
Twenty-four hours after Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson launched a scalding TV attack comparing his opponent to the Taliban for his positions on women’s issues, Florida Republican Daniel Webster is pushing back.
In a statement from the campaign Monday afternoon, Webster’s wife and campaign manager derided Grayson’s ad as “shameful” and “ludicrous.”
But the response does not refute any of the charges leveled in the ad – titled “Taliban Dan Webster” - which claimed that Webster, a former state Senate majority leader and state House speaker, wanted to make divorce illegal and deny abused women health care. Grayson’s ad even claims that Webster “tried to prohibit alimony to an ‘adulterous wife’ but not an adulterous husband,’” and that he “wants to force women to stay in abusive marriages.” Webster’s response also does not address footage in the ad of Webster saying, “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husband,” and “She should submit to me – that’s in the Bible.”
Uhm. They can't refute it because it's all true. Webster is a far right Christian Reconstructionist loon.
Mrs Webster knows very well that it is a sin to lie so she cleverly accuses Grayson of being untruthful without refuting the irrefutable:
In her statement, Sandy Webster said: "Alan Grayson's latest attack on my husband is shameful. Mr. Grayson seems to have a problem telling the truth and no problem misleading the public. Dan has been an amazing husband and father, and the finest man I have ever known. Mr. Grayson should be ashamed of his nasty smears against my husband."
The Village is having a full blown hissy fit about the ad, although I notice that it seems to be quite a bit less offensive to women than men. I wonder why?

He is a democrat and serves only himself. He's drunk with power and to come out with an ad like this is just despicable. Calling one group (anybody not in his club) the taliban. I thought he went pretty low when he was screaming on the floor that republicans want people to die, but he just seems to sink further and further into the gutter. I don't think he'd be real thrilled if someone came out and called him the Gestapo. Although the more I hear about him the more I believe he is part of the Gestapo.

That if the couple delibrately engages in adultery to have a basis to dissolve the marriage, it should be denied? That does not take domestic violence into consideration as grounds for divorce? In 1990, not only did Webster conceive the notion, but he actually introduced such a proposal in the Florida State legislature. Women who commit adultery are showcased in that bill as undeserving of alimony. Men who commit adultery are not mentioned at all. Can you say chest-beating gender bias? Then there is that pesky little subject of prohibiting abortions to rape and incest victims, which Webster supports, but refuses to talk about on direct questioning in media interviews.
Stringent 1-reason divorce restrictions, banishment of female adulterers and forcing rape and incest victims to have their perps babies. FYI, some folks would say these ideas are a tad on the extreme side and are suggestive of Taliban rule, though I do realize there are certain Christian theocrats in this country who are working diligently to make these our new norms, all the while decrying, "No Sharia law! No Sharia law!"
That reminds me. Let's not forget the hypocrisy factor. This is coming out of the no-government-interference-in-private-affairs party...you know, the one whose megalomaniacal senator is flexing his muscle as we speak by threatening to shut down the government and not allowing customary fast track legislation to pass through without his personal stamp of approval? Grayson is rude, but not entirely off the mark. Demint? Insane.

Even so, that is a religious viewpoint. Has nothing to do with what every citizen in the states does in his/her personal life, and it's a commitment two consenting adults make with each other. Doesn't affect my marriage or how I live my life.
Linking this with the Taliban is just wrong. If your going to stretch that then you would find something in everything linked with them.
On the other issue about abortion -
Webster is pro-life, and sponsored SB 2400 in the Florida Senate that would have given women seeking an abortion the option to view an ultrasound of the fetus prior to undergoing the operation. The bill did not require women to see the ultrasound, but that all abortion providers allow women the option; Webster argued that it would give woman more medical information prior to receiving an abortion. The bill did not pass the Senate.[23] He also sponsored a law that would have required minors to notify their legal guardians before receiving an abortion.[9]
Webster is for a woman's right to choice. Looks like Grayson is the chest-beating man. Why anyone would vote for someone who is against women having the right to choose.
