Good question, and I respect your discourse on the subject.
I wanted to be the first to comment before the possible snarks began to try to combat them.
There will be a Republican running, and that person could becmoe the President. I have interest in that, even as a Democrat.
I'd say Jindal is a no-go. - Sorry, couldn't resist

Seriously, though, I hope he isn't planning on trying to run. He sure is an embarrassment abroad right now.
I would vote for Walker or Perry. They both have proven - they can run a state successfully.

Oh, please. Rick Perry's real legacy. - First and foremost
[ In Reply To ..]
He's facing a first-degree felony federal indictment for abuse of official capacity and a third-degree felony federal indictment for coercion. This Texan finds that pretty embarrassing, but I'm sure the Entitled One thinks it's a big joke and that he's above the law, as his mugshot illustrates. Here are some other things I can't take much pride in:
He pandered to his buddies and special interests every waking hour of his so-called service as governor while leaving middle class and low income families in the dust. He slashed billions in educational funding. College tuitions jumped 55% under his watch. On average, 19% of Texans aren't literate enough to read a newspaper, #1 in illiteracy in the nation. High school dropout rate was 24% in 2013. High Teen pregnancy rates, repeat teen pregnancy rates and unwanted pregnancy rates have thrived under his regressive abstinence only sex education program which Perry loves to brag about.
We have more workers than any other state that make minimum wage or lower and a poverty rate of 17.9% . That's 1 in 6. Nevertheless, Perry opposes minimum wage hike despite how much it would benefit nearly 3 million Texans. Affordable housing is almost nonexistent in Texas' largest cities. According to the USDA, 18.4% of Texas households (one in five) experience food insecurity. An estimated 1.8 million Texas children, or 27.1% (one in four) live in these hungry households. We have the second highest home insurance rates in the country.
1.2 million (16%) Texas children and 6 million adult Texans (24.6%. just about 1 in 4) are uninsured due to Governor Mugshot's TP/GOP red state Medicaid grandstanding. That puts us at the TOP OF THE HEAP. We are #49 in funding for the mentally ill. Then there's the asinine abortion clinic statutes currently under injunction as they wend their way up the judicial food chain. Don't even get me started on the criminal injustice system.
Any real Texan knows better than to tell another Texan to leave Texas, whether native or fortunate transplant. Them's fightin' words, to be sure.

Perry, right, he's just what we need.
Anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-healthcare, anti-first amendment, pro-government sponsored killing, pro-religion (as long as it's Christianity), pro-guns for everyone, and currently under indictment for two felony counts.
Yeah, he'd make a swell president.
At first I thought I wanted Romney, - NPC
[ In Reply To ..]
and I will vote for him if he is the contender, but I would prefer to see Perry, Jindal or Walker running the country. I definitely think the next president should be a former governor rather a community organizer or political has-been hack whose claim to fame will go down in infamy as being "What difference at this point does it make?" in reference to the tragedty in Benghazi and the torture and subsequent killing of her so-called friend and the three civilians. In addition, I definitely do not want to see another Bush in the White House.
I have to agree with you. I really did want Romney (sm) - LM
[ In Reply To ..]
last time around, but when I saw him in that debate with Obama letting him walk all over him, something changed. He didn't have the guts (IMO), for whatever reason, to stand up to Obama when Obama was in the wrong, and Romney was right, which has since been proven. I feel in my heart he would have been a good President and probably would still be, but we need someone with more gumption, and I think Walker or Perry fill the bill. I also agree about no more community organizers - like that would ever happen again - LOL - and not even just a congressperson. It has to be someone who has been a CEO of preferably a state.
I am right there with you Abby.... - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not sure who I want to see in the running at this point, only that I want to see someone different. And definitely don't want to see another Bush. I would love to have a candidate that I genuinely support and not the lesser of 2 evils. If I have to vote for Romney or Bush, I suppose I will when it comes down to it, but I will have to hold my nose to do it.
Scary criteria - for voting for the status quo
[ In Reply To ..]
Vote against Democrats all you want, but if you think that either Romney or Bush is a better alternative to the worst Democrat you dont truly understand the agenda of the ALREADY very rich and very powerful.
Did people see the story yesterday about the 1% of the world owning 80% of the wealth? Do we NOT understand yet that this is athe intention of the status quo?
people need to grow a spine and vote third party and NOT the tea party variety.
AMEN!!! - NOMOREREDORBLUE

I agree completely. The parties are tearing this country apart. It is time for new thinking and ideas...and it wouldn't hurt to have both the president and the congress/senate do their jobs instead of mud slinging and posturing all the time.
I'm not opposed to your statements, but - A conservative

there has to be a strong enough third party and there never has been. Perot was strong, but obviously not strong enough way back when. Since it's not likely to happen any time soon, I'd rather have an experienced and successful Republican governor rather than any Democrat who just wants to increase taxes and implement more social programs for those UNWILLING to better themselves. I am not talking about the ones who truly need help. I'm talking about the ones who make entitlements their way of life, and that includes the illegals.

The republicans need to field a decent, level-headed, non-extremist candidate who actually has a clue about the lives of common Americans, and who isn't intimidated or influenced by the Tea Party whackadoodles.
The last time they managed this was John McCain in 2008. He was at the time a statesman rather than a politician, and I think he would have made quite a good president.
Unfortunately, in their rush to appease the Tea Party cancer, they saddled the poor guy with Sarah Palin. Yes, she was able to spin a folksy line, but she was a vapid idiot.
For some reason, the Tea Party Republicans just seem to love vapid idiots. The rest of the voters realized it would be an absolute disaster to have her one heartbeat away from the Presidency, and cast their votes elsewhere.
Since then, the various candidates put forward by Republicans have been somewhere between jokes and insults: Romney, Paul, Gingrich, Santorum, Bachmann?!?! Ohferchrissakes.
It will be interesting - or more likely, sadly amusing - to see who they put forward next time around. I have a strong suspicion they haven't learned their lesson yet.

Moderates (liberals And Conservatives) Need To ReassertNov 10, 2016I'm old enough to have lived during a period in which "liberal" and "conservative" weren't terms describing mutually exclusive political positions. They weren't polar opposites, and they weren't even necessarily adversarial.
