Conservatives Scott Walker vs. Ted Cruz on Outsourcing

Posted: Mar 23, 2015

I can't figure out why Ted Cruz is the hot ticket, right now, over Scott Walker, considering they're so similar on their views - what does he have Scott Walker doesn't other than "hot-topic" ethnicity? One of the most overlooked issues on this board is outsourcing, but it's the one that affects us as MTs the most. So it may surprise some to learn where these 2 conservatives stood on this issue - at opposite ends. Scott Walker wants to stop outsourcing: http://www.jsonline.com/news/statepolitics/scott-walker-backs-blocking-money-to-firms-outsourcing-jobs-b99319388z1-268913231.html Ted Cruz endorses outsourcing of STEM jobs, and actually wants to increase the cap by 500% on H1-B visas in these areas. http://www.computerworld.com/article/2900126/ted-cruz-the-presidential-candidate-who-wants-to-increase-the-h-1b-cap-by-500.html (Thought that article was interesting because it's not a political publication, but technology instead.) Also interestingly, while looking, I found this article from conservative publication "American Spectator" called: "Ted Cruz is no Ronald Reagan," and apparently they also endorse Scott Walker over Ted Cruz. http://spectator.org/blog/62152/ted-cruz-no-ronald-reagan Anyone have any ideas of why Cruz should be nominated over Walker other than we like his ethnicity? Otherwise, perhaps we should just outsource the office of the president to communist China - ya know, like we do everything else, with Congressional approval (in the form of voting for tax breaks/incentives for those that do) ;) PS - they're both a little too far right for me, but if I had my druthers 'tween the two, I'd rather have Walker from what little info I've gleaned thus far. ;

Thank you. I would think that would be an important consideration - for a republican MT. nm

Now Tom Cruise would win, if the competition included skivvy-dancing :) - Independent

When you said that, I thought you were making some "Canadianized" play on Ted Cruz's name or something lol.

Regardless, for some strange reason, I suddenly got the visual image of Ted Cruz and Scott Walker dancing around in Ray Bans and skivvies to "Old Time Rock and Roll" and it wasn't pretty, so thanks for that lol. I'm not sure who would win that competition among any of our candidates.

Hey, perhaps that should be part of the new RNC requirement?

"Gentlemen? Tonight we have a new treat for the RNC, just for the ladies. The ladies have spoken and would like to see you dance in Tom Cruise fashion to "Old Time Rock and Roll. We think it would be of great fun and much jocularity would be had by all. Just ask the ladies, they've been doing it to win pageants for years. So since you've all made it so clear that you're willing to do anything for a nomination, please commence to skivvy dancing immediately."

I wonder who would win the dance-off portion of the competition? :)
They could have a dance-off on oprah's couch! Haha! nm - VTMT

Lol, yes, perhaps the judges could be Oprah, Tom Cruise and Simon Cowell - Independent
[ In Reply To ..]
And their responses as judges would be:

Tom Cruise: "Nice effort, but more passion, more feeling! It's like you're being glib. Like Matt Lauer, glib. Are you on antidepressants? Help ME help YOU!"

Oprah Winfrey: "I'm really glad to see you all just let loose and have a little fun. But let us not forget, what's really important, here, is we celebrate diversity. Wait a minute...hmm"

Simon Cowell: "I have no idea what you two are talking about, that is, without a doubt, the worst skivvy-dancing I've ever seen. They're absolutely horrid dancers. HORRID! And no amount of makeover-ing is going to improve the sex appeal. In fact, I can never un-see them dancing, they've ruined the entire concept of skivvy dancing for life, and may God have mercy on their souls for it, as well as all of ours for having witnessed it. I do hope you stick to politics, gentlemen, because you will never make it as skivvy dancers."

All right, back to work for me. Sometimes you just gotta pause for an absurdity giggle - and it's all absurd, really :)

My point was that it was NAFTA whoever started it that ruined all of us when it was okayed to outsource everything.

I don't care what party, just its effects.

I am also getting tired of being blasted for whatever I say here. Does not matter where I post, there are one or two people who can't wait to pounce on my posts.

This is not really very polite when you don't know what the person was thinking when they posted it. If they didn't agree they could just say so, not demean someone.
I agree with your 100%. I have experience dthe same thing you have - If someone does not like our posts

I personally like your posts and read them because you are respectful, unlike a few. I will continue to read them.

I've also noticed you sometimes break away from the pack/think outside the box in a couple areas, too - if I can do that, anyone can :)

We may not always agree, but you are always welcome under mine and I'll do my best to "corral the nasty" here, without stopping freedom of speech - and by "nasty" I don't mean sarcasm (to a point) because it's usually funny from both sides.

(However, if I ever am tempted to get nasty on a bad day, feel free to let me know - because I think you are one of the few here who could say, "Hey, Indy? Perhaps it's time to step back a second and remember what you're about.")

I'm sorry that happened to you on the gab board, I don't post over there. That shouldn't happen anywhere. Regardless, thanks for commenting in my thread :)

It was under Bill Clinton that NAFTA exploded. Not Bush. Sure Bush continued it, but he didn't start it.

No matter how much people like Bill Clinton, he seems to be a likeable guy, he was the start of this. I voted for him, but my husband who is apolitical and a researcher of politics and understands more than me does confirm it was Clinton that started it. He showed me all the links he used in his research (not one Fox or CNN article or Alex Jones and the other strange ones). Just independent research.

Clinton just finalized it. It also has NOTHING to do with outsourcing MT jobs. NAFTA is a North American treaty, U.S., Canada and Mexico only.

Clinton started it with NAFTA, Bush administration pushed heavily for it from 2004-2008 - Independent

[ In Reply To ..]
Actually, both parties had a hand in outsourcing- once again, time to take off the party glasses, wake up and smell the Kool-Aid.

Because Clinton DID start the whole initial push of outsourcing with NAFTA in 1994. The focus was primarily on Canada and Mexico (auto industry).

Then from 2004 to 2008, the Bush administration pushed for outsourcing to India and China.

For proof, see this via Fox News in 2004:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/2004/02/13/white-house-under-fire-for-outsourcing-proposal/

Also these quotes:

“When a good or service is produced at lower cost in another country, it makes sense to import it rather than to produce it domestically.”
—Economic Report of the President, p. 25, February 2004

“Outsourcing is just a new way of doing international trade. More things are tradable than were tradable in the past. And that’s a good thing.”
—N. Gregory Mankiw, Chairman of
President Bush’s Council of Economic
Advisors, Feb. 9, 2004

The outsourcing of U.S. jobs “is part of trade...and there can’t be any doubt about the fact that trade makes the economy stronger.”
—U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow,
March 29, 2004

Bush later admitted it was hurting our economy, but his answer was "better education of US citizens so we could compete."

http://www.foxnews.com/story/2006/03/03/bush-outsourcing-does-hurt-us/

But by then, it was too late - even our pet food was being outsourced with no regulation on it from China. By July 2008, outsourcing overseas was at an all time high (various sources of this info you may google yourself).

Sorry, folks, but again, our memories are too short - this is what politicians are counting on.

Because don't forget, "Black Monday" happened in October 2008, which is also when the mortgage crisis began - 1 month before Obama was elected and 3 months before he took office.

We didn't start feeling it until Obama took office, but the ground work had already been laid - and the Bush administration KNEW the new guy would get blame, Obama or Romney, but hoping for Obama knowing this was likely due to Bush's unpopularity due to war goings on.

Obama has grasped at too much power trying to fix it and government spending is even more out of control, but it already was spinning out of control before he was elected - he just made it worse.

So even if Romney been elected, we'd have seen these same problems - but would Romney have been better at fixing it?

Guess we'll never know.

except it was McCain who ran against Obama - in that election

...economically, by 2012. We were really ready for SOMEONE to help us change but didn't get it.

Again, I blame this on BOTH parties, who'd become so polarized they'd block the slightest thing the other party tried to do out of party spite, despite what was best.

But, back to my original post (moving forward, actually), it doesn't matter "who started it" or whose fault it is anymore.

Just someone, from either party - for the love of G and all that is holy lol - please be grown up to work and play well with others and fix it:)

For comparison, start with Wisconsin and Minnesota - see message

[ In Reply To ..]
I too hope that Scotty gets the Republican nomination. It is very easy to compare the failure of Scotty's Wisconsin to the success of neighboring state Minnesota. It should make the difference between a Republican run state (Wisconsin) and a Democratic run state (Minnesota) quite easy fodder for the Democratic candidate to campaign on and win the next election.

When you think Scotty is all wonderful, remember that he is just an ALEC/Koch brother puppet for sale. He could not even make it through college and is now in the process of destroying the higher education system in Wisconsin.

Now, never said "wonderful". In fact, I said they're both too far right for me:) - Independent

[ In Reply To ..]
I also said if I HAD to choose between the two, I'd pick Scott because of his stance on outsourcing, which has a direct effect on us and our career more than many other issues being discussed.

I often think about who I could live with, if they became president despite my wishes vs. who I'd have to move to Costa Rica for - let's just say considering I can't find a candidate I agree with more than 50% on, for either party, I'm this close to booking a ticket right now for Costa Rica ;)

I DID edit my post a few minutes later for typos/clarity and added that PS, though, just as I did this one, so perhaps it was overlooked - my fault then :)

Not so fast about Walker - not sure he is really against

[ In Reply To ..]
Offshoring after all.

He took the stance you mention on offshoring only right before his election so that he could paint his opponent (whose family business Trek bikes have manufacturing plants in China, Germany, The Netherlands) in that light.

Before that he took no stance on offshoring that I could find, but he definitely has taken a stance against unions and has a terrible record of job creation in his state, and we all remember his conversation with that woman about "divide and conquer" of unions and her glee at becoming a "right to work for less" state (see link).
Thank you for the info - Independent
[ In Reply To ..]
Funny you say that, I found some more today essentially stating the same thing, that he'd changed his position around election time. The site I read, however, didn't mention much about his own connection to outsourcing.

I don't have a problem with someone educating themselves a bit more and changing their position, but they should make this public and clear, and above all, never attempt to hide your own history, that's just appalling.

Wish this wasn't all the way down here so people could read you, but I respect anyone who does their homework, thank you :)
