Michelle Obama has already travelled 72 days abroad up to this point. Certainly not an insignificant total, and her first term tally of 55 days abroad is more than President Reagan spent abroad in his first term.

Yet, Michelle’s two-term travel record will almost assuredly fail to keep pace with Laura Bush’s record-setting feat.

The former First Lady racked up a two-term total of 212 days abroad. Her second term included 135 days of international travel, which is more time than her husband, George W. Bush, spent abroad during the same time period!

In fact, if you compare Laura Bush to the Presidents, she is currently the third most internationally traveled of that group, behind Bill Clinton and her husband – though President Obama will likely push her back to fourth in a few years.

This is very long but I am sick of the lies put out by sites like Media Matters and other sites, so this will be Very long...

First of all, I don't think Laura Bush traveled half as much as Michelle Obama has traveled on "vacations." Most of Laura's trips was WITH her husband. It seems most of Michelle’s are WITHOUT her husband using Air Force One for 4 round trips instead of 2 and the extra security it costs the taxpayers.

The only trips I remember the Bush's making for personal vacations were to their ranch in Texas, Kennebunk ME, or to Camp David. Media Matters wants you to believe that it cost $20 million to fly to the ranch in TX using the cost of Air Force One at $56,800 per trip. Using that cost of $56,800, Media Matters calculated that each trip to Crawford cost taxpayers $259,687 each time, and $20 million total for Bush’s ranch flights. Now, I’m no mathematician but at $56,800 to and from would cost $113,600, not the inflated $259,687, and 40 trips would cost $4,544,000. I got a kick out another site that stated the same exact verbiage from the Media Matters page.

Other than going back and forth to the Crawford Ranch (which became rather like the second White House) and were also working vacations by hosting meetings of many delegates from around the world, I could find only a few references to Mrs. Bush’s vacations.

For 15 years, Laura Bush and four female friends have escaped together for a week every summer.“I have a group of friends that I grew up with in Midland, Texas, and we hike every summer at a national park.”
July 8, 2001 – Yosemite National Park, California.
July 27, 2003 – Olympic National Forest, Washington.
July 20, 2004 – Glacier National Park, Montana.
July 23, 2006 – Denali National Park & Preserve, Alaska (she arrived by train).
May 1, 2007 – Zion National Park, Utah.
June 2008 – Mount Desert Island, Maine.
I cannot seem to locate which National Park, if any, they went to in 2002 and 2005.

Naturally, these hiking vacations did include friends (from what I could find, there were 4 friends with Mrs. Bush) and sometimes Air Force II and always with Secret Service Agents and some staff, as is necessary for a first lady, but these weren’t OVERSEAS trips, like Michelle did, plus does anyone have an answer if the Jenna and Barbara went on spring breaks with a bunch of friends to other countries like Sasha and Malia?

Then, we have the “working vacations”:

1. In 2003, she took her education agenda global, as HONORARY AMBASSADAOR FOR THE UNITED NATIONS LITERACY DECADE. In this role, she has worked with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization to promote global literacy programs with measurable outcomes. She convened world leaders for annual summits that inspired successful practices, beginning with the first-ever White House Conference on Global Literacy in 2006. Mrs. Bush has visited schools and met with students in nations from Afghanistan to Zambia, with a particular focus on encouraging girls and women to pursue their education.
2. She has traveled to Afghanistan three times and served as honorary chair of the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council.
3. Mrs. Bush has been a leading advocate for the cause of human rights in Burma. She traveled to the Thai-Burma border and met with refugees who fled the abuses of Burma's military regime.
4. She has made five trips to Africa alone in support of President Bush's life-saving global health initiatives, including the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) and the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). In visits to 10 of the 15 countries targeted by the PMI and 12 of the 15 PEPFAR countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, she witnessed first-hand the success of these historic commitments

From what I could ascertain, none of these “working vacations” was really a vacation, except quite possibly the safari.

Do I see a difference between Mrs. Obama’s Spain vacation and Mrs. Bush’s vacations? Yes, I do and I am glad I had the time to research this. First, I find that when Mrs. Bush traveled overseas, she did so with a mission; it was not a mere vacation. Second, her hiking vacations with her friends were in United States National Parks. Third, we were not a nation with a large number of people without jobs and I don’t recall this first family asking us (or most of us) to sacrifice. Can you state the same for the present first lady?

Media Matters and other progressive liberal sitess want you to believe that the Bush’s spent more on vacations than the Obama’s and all the trips Laura made overseas were for play but, as usual, they’re just stories invented by the Soros/liberal progressive agenda to put the Bush’s in a worse light to deflect the actual facts.

Don’t forget, Michelle’s trip to Spain, the girls spring break in Mexico with friends, and was it 1 0r 2 ski trips to Vail, Colorado in the first years? How many vacations in Martha's Vineyard did they take at taxpayers expense, with rental of the Blue Heron Farm property alone costing an estimated $50,000 a week. Plus, their Christmas vacations to Hawaii and this year’s Hawaiian vacation especially, because Obama freely allowed his wife to stay an extra week without him, which was another duplicated Air Force One and security cost at taxpayers expense. They state Hawaii is their home state…if so, how did Obama become Senator from Illinois? LOL (Don’t answer – I’m just making sarcasm there.)

These workers are hired on B1/B2 visas and told what to say to immigration officials when arriving to this country and given letters to give to immigration officials.
