1. Freedom to choose what's in your plan.
Translation: Too many people are underinsured, choosing minimum plans because they can't afford the good coverage. Reform will provide better coverage. Better coverage is a good thing.

2. Freedom to be rewarded for healthy living, or pay your real costs.
Quote from the same article: "...patients pay the same rates for their level of coverage regardless of their age or medical condition." In other words, being sick or aging (which we all do) will not make your payments skyrocket. And no more excluding people from coverage because of pre-existing conditions.

3. Freedom to choose high-deductible coverage.
Hey, who wouldn't want to be able to pay more out-of-pocket? Um, me for one.

4. Freedom to keep your existing plan.
This is a duplicate as it goes over the same requirements as #1. Your plan must meet the minimum requirements. If it doesn't or "if the plan changes" (in which case it wouldn't be your existing plan anyway) you'll get to shop through the exchange. Another way to avoid skyrocketing premiums.

5. Freedom to choose your doctors.
The plan, according to this article "is similar" to an HMO and might "in theory" work that way although it "does not rule out" not working like an HMO. Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.
To put it simply, your doctor can suggest you see a specialist (makes sense to me) and you can either go by referral from your doc or choose a specialist yourself.

Tully, the author of this opinion piece, stretches the interpretation of reform quite a bit. He tries to make us dislike the very things we need to reform by making them seem scary freedom-taking boogie-man rules. An even bigger issue is this: What will happen if reform does NOT happen? None of the naysayers want to address that, because that is a truly scary thing.

Since you'll be paying for health care for 4 years before it actually takes effect, in addition to paying for your existing health care. And not to mention the increased taxes that are right around the corner for all of us...even those making under $200k.

THANK YOU!!!!!! I'm glad to see someone has been paying attention - anony

It's good to know there are intelligent life forms :-) in this country other than myself. (Life forms - can you tell I've been watching Alien movies. ha ha) How many times have I been saying this. The same thing you have been. Especially that little under $200K info people just like to skip over. I know people don't want to believe it, but the truth is out there.

Thank you for giving me back confidence that there are other intelligent people in this country.
There are a lot of smart conservatives on this board, but the liberals try to drown them out, sadly. - Anon

They tend to gang up on you if you express a different opinion, and if that doesn't work, they start with the ad hominem attacks. "Agreeing to disagree" isn't allowed in Obamaland apparently.
That about sums it up too - anony

Thank you for posting. I do see many attacks and little snippy one-liners by the libs. It is discouraging to see so many who follow blindly, but glad to know there are more of us out there.

I'll tell you what's in the past...health care costs rising out of control. In the future? More of the same if reform doesn't get passed. Bite the bullet and let's git 'er done before we no longer have a middle class at all.

Increased taxes in the future...ooooo scary! Obama has cut taxes but someday, sometime, they will rise again! He didn't guarantee that taxes would never rise again! Bad bad prez! Sheesh.

I bet people hate it when you talk about the weather. It's a sunny day but it's going to snow again! Maybe not this week or even this year, but it will someday! And be cold! Must depress the heck out of your neighbors.

So let's fix the problems in health care but not throw out the whole system! - Anon

Tort reform, selling insurance across state lines, portability, allow for preexisting conditions...all of those issues can be fixed WITHOUT destroying a system that 80% of Americans are perfectly happy with!
That is what America is saying - anony

America does not want a complete overhaul. We want exactly what your saying. Tort reform and across state line insurance is what we've been saying. Look at what has happened to all the offices that the government has taken over (post office, social security, medicare, and some parks). They can't even run those without bankrupting them. Why do people put their trust in their health care in the hand of people who have destroyed anything else they get their grimy hands on.
The increased taxes. Did you not read her post? - anony

You really think health care costs rising out of control is going to stop? Really???? Sorry sister...that will continue on. Why do you think the health care companies want this to pass.

Maybe you think rising taxes are something to joke about but us who are suffering because of rising taxes certainly do not. There is nothing funny about it. But maybe you are one of those rich who don't have to worry about it. But I'm sure if Bush or the republicans had raised your taxes you'd be the first one shouting.

And nice play on words "he didn't guarantee that taxes would never rise again" That my dear is what we call "CMA".

Your taxes rose under Bush because he cut taxes for the rich.

Deficits rose under Bush because he cut taxes for the rich.

Reconciliation was used under Bush to cut taxes for the rich.

Perhaps you are a recent immigrant so you don't know these things? Or did you sleep through the first part of this century?

Might Lose My HouseJun 25, 2010
Every month I go through the same thing - I wonder if I am going to make my house payment.  There is just so much we have to pay for and obviously not enough money to pay for it all.  Sometimes I just sit and cry and ask over and over - what are we going to do, where will we go, how will we live?  I don't want to lose my home but there does not seem to be anything I can do.  Just call me sad but true mt.  Just thought maybe if I wrote it down I would feel better.&nb ...

Lose A Job, See What You GainApr 06, 2014
Had a nice little once-a-month job (hmm, that sounds like I get paid to menstruate, but no that's not it LOL) - lost it - it was kinda painful, 'cause I liked my coworkers. But then, I've had time to check out a new writing group, AND go to my painting group - they were wondering what happened to me - let's just say "arctic vortex." Then my heating bill was insanely low, it will be low this month also, so I'm gonna make it (by the skin of my teeth as they say). So, th ...

Need To Lose Baby WeightFeb 28, 2012
I had a baby 2 years ago and I have not worked out a day since then (bad I know).  Now, with summer coming up, I need to tone up and get in shape.  Anyone have a good workout they can share to lose the baby weight.  I've got about 10 pounds to lose, which isn't bad, but I'm so out of shape and kind of puffy, no muscle!  I really don't want to join a gym as I have a treadmill and some weights but really have no idea what kind of workout to do. ...

Obama To America-I Win, You Lose.Mar 22, 2010
"Give me tyranny and give me debt" has replaced “Give me liberty or give me death.” With his health care holy war, President Obama is sending America at least 10 messages since taking office: 1. I win; you lose. 2. My will; not the will of the people. 3. Government of Obama, by Obama, for Obama; not government of the people, by the people, for the people. 4. Corrupt House rules and autocracy; not play by the rules and democracy. 5. “I’ll tread on you” now step ...

Why The Tea Party Will Cause Republicans To LoseApr 19, 2011
It isn't possible to have an actual discussion with a tea party member. They love slogans and one-liners, but that's as far as their 'thinking' goes. They are shallow thinkers. The one thing about this, whether you think it is a good thing or a bad thing, is that they are causing the Republican Party to lose credibility. Decent people have been sucked into it temporarily, but if they are able to think, they eventually have enough of it. The Birther movement is taking the Tea ...

step down after next year. He's way too conservative for me, but apparently entirely too responsible and independent to suit the teapartiers and their backers. "In his retirement announcement, Mr. Chambliss expressed confidence that he would have beaten such foes, even as he voiced his frustration that compromise was increasingly impossible in Washington. “I have no doubt that had I decided to be a candidate, I would have won re-election,” he said. “Instead, this is ...

Best Thing We Can All Do Is Lose The Party StereotypesOct 11, 2014
It's easy, cheap - and usually wrong - to think of political parties (and hence, anything or anyone related to them) in terms of simplistic stereotypes and labels, which are almost always flattering with regard to our own party and insulting when it comes to others. I see people here hurling insults at one another - conservatives are this, liberals are that - based on these caricatures which bear little if any relationship to the truth.  The political parties themselves encourage this ...

CBO Now Says 10 Mil Will Lose Employer Health Plans Under ObamaCareJan 28, 2015
The Congressional Budget Office now says ObamaCare will push 10 million off employer-based coverage, a tenfold increase from its initial projection. The "keep your plan" lie just gets bigger and bigger. The latest CBO report is supposed to be a big win for the Obama administration because the projected costs are 20% below what the CBO first projected in 2010. But the CBO report also shows that ObamaCare will be far more disruptive to the employer-based insurance market, while being far less ef ...

Liberals Lose Their Cool In The Supreme Court Fight Over ObamacareNov 18, 2014
On Nov. 7, the Supreme Court said it would entertain the latest legal assault on President Obama’s health-reform program. Leading liberal analysts worry—reasonably—that the justices will cripple Obamacare. Unfortunately, these defenders of the program are making their case by preemptively accusing right-leaning members of the high court of bad faith and rank partisanship. Paul Krugman of Princeton and the New York Times has has called the argument that a sy ...
