got checked today for the flashing lights
Posted: Jan 19, 2015
He didn't find anything but said if it lasted more than 2 months to see a retina specialist. Whew!

Did you see an ophthalmologist - for this

I had this happen and the exam involved dilating my eye and then numbing my eye for a super thorough examination.
Only way so see the vitreous sac and retina.
Did you see an optometrist or an ophthalmologist? - sm

As someone who has had 3 retinal tears in the past 10 years, I hope you saw an MD ophthalmologist, not an optometrist. An optometrist is not trained in diagnosing severe diseases of the eyes. I'll be relieved if you saw an ophthalmologist if he/she has a good reputation. If it was an optometrist, I urge you to call a retinal specialist. It is never normal to have flashing lights. It could be a retinal tear or something else, but it's not normal.

diseases of the eye. There are medical tests done in optometrists' offices to help diagnose these diseases, but sometimes the tests aren't even needed. Sometimes severe diseases can be diagnosed with a thorough exam. Optometrists will then refer patients to an M.D. (I worked in an optometrist's office.)
yes it was an optometrist. I had thorough exams where he dilated - my eyes. I feel comfortable

with my exam. I cannot spend the money for a medical specialist copay. He told me if I have darkening in my vision or a curtain like darkness to call and he would get me referred to a retina specialist right away.
I had a vitreous detachment...SM - Old Anon

in one eye a few years back. I had a small spot in my vision that moved if I moved my eye left to right or up and down. My optometrist did a dilated exam. He saw a small piece of vitrea had pulled off and was floating around in there. He also checked my retina and said it was intact. He told me as you age, the vitrea dries out and gets crispy. A piece can detach and float around in your eyeball and eventually falls to the floor of the eyeball. As long as it does not pull of any retina in the process, it is a relatively benign and common occurrence. If you have this experience, yes indeed, your optometrist can do a dilated exam to see what's going on.

Seeing Little Lights Left Visual FieldJan 18, 2015Yesterday I started seeing what looks to me like a tiny string of blue Christmas lights in my left visual field. It happens when I turn my head. At first I noticed it when I was sitting in bed with a lamp on so I thought somehow it was a reflection off of my glasses. It continued throughout the day. Not constantly or anything but I experienced it maybe 10-15 times. Then when I woke up this morning I noticed it again. I have been up for about 4 hours now and h ...

Wish I Would Have Checked OutSep 07, 2011Had only been to the work-related ones, but opened this one today and got kinda hooked. Some of you are so witty! Loved the thread about "what do have to much of." To the one who said Chinese take-out, I almost had tears laughing so hard. That is so my mom. No matter where they go for take-out, if there are condiments left over, they go into a plastic baggie in the fridge door, never mind the fact that they have at least one of each in bottle form. Love this p ...

I Need To Make An Appointment To Get Thyroid CheckedFeb 20, 2013I already posted this in response to someone else's post. I don't have insurance, but the dentist at the dental school I went to affirmed I have thyroid nodules (really, I have more than one?) I'm afraid to get this checked out, I don't have insurance, how am I going to afford Synthroid?
It's 49 dollars for the office visit + cost of tests. What if they want to do a biopsy? I need tires, blah, blah, blah, dental work, blah, blah, blah....

UPDATE I re-reported a Fox News segment on Obamacare -- it was appallingly easy to see how it misleads the audience
BY ERIC STERN

How Much Is Your Gas Today?Jan 07, 2011A while back I posted a message that the oil commodity prices were going up and the last time oil was about $90, gas went to over $4.00. Do you think there is less oil out there?

DHS Did Something Right Today.Mar 03, 2015Supposedly, DHS shut down 20 of these birth tourist homes, all in California. It costs up to $50K for the Chinese mothers-to-be to come and stay here, having their babies in a regular hospital, and then go home. The Fourteenth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution grants automatic citizenship to everyone born in the United States. It was intended to ensure that freed slaves would be able to claim citizenship they rightly deserved. Today, however, some creative "birth tourists" are ta ...
I Got A Cat TodayJan 21, 2016Believe it or not, I got a wonderful cat at a shelter today! He is a gorgeous black cat, looks like a little panther, and is incredibly affectionate and good natured. He had been there quite a while because the shelter people said they have such a hard time placing black cats! He is a love (and my third black cat), and I am so glad that a friend of mine suggested I take a black cat! So, no Savannah cat, no pit, no Rottie, just a wonderful and loving black cat! He is a very peaceful creature ...

Wow! What A Speech By O TodayJan 07, 2010I'm surprised no one on this board commented on it yet. I watched it and he seems pretty pi$$ed. I just hope he really means what he said this time. As he said, it is his responsibility. Maybe now he will stop blaming the former administration and focus on being a president instead of a puppet.
The only problem I see is that talk is cheap. Implementation of what his plans are for the terrorist problem has yet to be seen.

Wow, Today Is The Day For GiftsDec 16, 2010So first I got a fruit basket delivered today from one of my accounts. Very nice. Then I got my mail and there was a X-mas card from our next door neighbor. They are retired, in their 80s, and live in Florida for the winter. Since we live in an area that has plenty of snow, we (usually me) shovel or snowblow their sidewalk whenever needed. In the past they have always sent a X-mas card with a check for my husband for doing the snowblowing, I think usually about $50. ...
