Cancer insurance, is it worth it

Posted: Jul 3, 2017

I've heard pros and cons about it.  I am 63 with a very strong family history of cancer and the older I get the more family members are getting colon, prostate, kidney cancer, etc.  I'm wondering if I should be proactive and get it now.  Any thoughts on anyone who has used it?  Thanks

I Have CancerSep 24, 2011
I consider this my MT community.  I feel we have a sense of sisterhood here. Renal cell carcinoma.  What I thought was bouts of kidney stones for the last year has been a massive tumor growing on my left kidney.  CT scan reveals a left lower pole renal mass measuring 10 x 7 cm.  I am scheduled for left nephrectomy on Friday, but hopefully sooner.  Knowing this thing is growing inside me is horrible.  I am handling it very calmly, which is surprising even to m ...

CancerSep 07, 2013
I just had an ultrasound and a biopsy the other day for postmenopausal bleeding. The doctor said he had to test for cancer of course. I found out by many sources that cancer cannot live in your body if your pH balance is over 7.1. So I thought I would share some of this with you. Cancer cannot survive in an alkaline body, which is pH over 7.1. Keep your pH balance over 7.1 by eating these alkaline foods. Of course, the ultimate goal is balance. Eating too many alkalizing foods can lead to its ...

Followup On My Skin CancerJan 11, 2010
Well, I had my surgery on New Year's Eve, and came away with an 8 cm incision wrapping around my dorsal forearm.  I got the pathology back and it was a well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, 3 x 3.5 cm, all margins clear.  Right now looking at the incision it's hard to imagine that he's correct when he says it will eventually be just a very thin white line.  It looks like someone tried to cut my arm off.  I have to go back every three months for a recheck ...

Breast Cancer Awareness, Perhaps Going Too Far?Oct 07, 2013
In an e-mail from child's 1st teacher, there is a notation that October 15th is wear pink day in honor of the Komen foundation.   While I think it is wrong to over-shelter kids, I also have to wonder in this case if this would be going perhaps too far.  It is nothing I will raise a stink over, my son will not be wearing pink as he does not have anything pink but I am just kind of baffled by this. ...

Mother Has Stage IV Lung Cancer... Not Sure What Happens NextFeb 04, 2010
My mother was diagnosed the last week of December with lung cancer that has spread to the liver, adrenal glands, and brain.  She had complications such as left-sided weakness, internal bleeding (last week transfused with 6 units of blood) and also has a blood clot in her leg.  The oncologist pretty much said he couldn't treat the cancer any longer because of the possibility of more internal bleeding.  My parents feel like they've just been written off and that my mo ...

Friend Diagnosed With Stage 1B Esophageal CancerMay 19, 2010
Hi all, I have a guy friend who is only 42 years old that was diagnosed with stage 1B esophageal cancer. They were able to remove the tumor and he is now going through radiation treatments 3 days a week for 4 weeks. I would like to make up a care package to give to him, but unsure what I should put in it. I was thinking some inspirational reading material and he is a huge Led Zeppelin fan. I have also heard Ensure or Boost is something good to be taking as a supplement and have thought of some ...

Cervical Cancer Diagnosis Up 8% In Young WomenNov 25, 2015
How about that? Younger women who now are covered under health insurance/Obamacare now are being diagnosed with cervical cancer at an earlier, more treatable age. I am not surprised. * * * Researchers used the National Cancer Data Base, a hospital-based registry of about 70 percent of all cancer cases in the United States. They compared diagnoses for women ages 21 to 25 who had cervical cancer with those for women ages 26 to 34, before and after the health law provision (OBAMACARE) began ...

A Post Worth Reading.Sep 08, 2012
I've reprised a portion of a post made earlier so that perhaps more will read it.  I've slightly reformatted it for myself because I find long paragraphs harder on these tired old eyes recently. Here it is: <b>As for what I care about: *  I care that it took over 350,000 Americans to drop out of the workforce in order for the unemployment rate to drop to 8.1%. * I care that in 3 years this president has added more to our debt than any other president. * I care t ...

Long Read But Worth ItDec 23, 2012
COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!! Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful. They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be ...

Is An Admin Assistant Course Worth It? Jun 30, 2016
I am considering taking an administrative assistant course. It costs almost $4000 and is supposed to touch upon office procedures, medical billing (not in depth), EMR, conflict resolution, among other useful subjects. This is cheaper than my community college and can be done at my own pace, within reason, from home. I need to get out of my almost min-wage MT job, but having been an MT for 25+ years, my non-MT skills are lacking. Completion of such a course seems to have multiple paths, in and ou ...
