Beyond excited!

Posted: Sep 9, 2011

After debating back and forth between the Keurig coffee machine and the old-fashioned stovetop espresso machine, I finally ordered a Bialetti stovetop cappuccino maker.  It's so cool...The espresso brews in the bottom "well" and you put milk into the top "well" so it heats up while the espresso is brewing.  The fun part is, when it's all ready, when you pour it into your mug, it distributes just the right amount of espresso and milk to make the perfect cappuccino.

As an extra treat, I talked to a friend of mine whose grandmother brings her espresso from Italy every time she visits and got the brand and type, which I was able to locate on Amazon and ordered that, too, along with the special organic brown sugar "rocks" that are used to sweeten it.

Sorry if I sound like a total coffee psycho, but I do LOVE my coffee (and with this job I certainly consume gallons of it, what with working 2 jobs) and it's going to be so nice to make myself a restaurant-quality cappy at home without it having to be just an occasional treat from the local Starbucks.

If anyone else has one of these cappy makers and has any suggestions or recipes they'd care to share, I'd love to see your posts.

Now to just count down the days until Tuesday, LOL!

Have a great evening, my fellow coffee-loving MTs!

I absolutely LOVE coffee - thanks - sm

Thanks for telling us about your machine and what you like about it. I love coffee and I'd love to get a professional machine down the road and I'll keep this one in mind. Having lived in Germany for so many years I really miss their coffee and would love to have that again.

That sounds like fun - Happy MT Robin

I have a really basic Mr. Coffee espresso maker that I got a number of years ago. I hadn't used it in a long time and it didn't sell in either of my garage sales this summer, so I started using it again. I love it. I just heat my milk in the microwave, though, as the steam thingy on mine is a little erratic.

Try getting some of those flavored syrups either by DaVinci or Torani. I get the Torani syrups at WalMart and Sams Sells the DaVinci. The DaVinci are a little less expensive, but I actually like the Torani better.

I use the vanilla and the caramel flavors and added with the hot milk I have a pretty darn good version of a caramel machiatto for a fraction of the price.

I used to be a hard core coffee drinker, but around April of this year regular coffee started just not tasting right to me, so I have switched to tea. I used to drink hot tea really sickenly sweet, but around the same time I lost my taste for coffee, black tea started tasting good. Yeah, I can't figure it out, either.

I'm the same way with tea that you are with your coffee. I found some really good online sites and a local store that sell various loose leaf teas and I go through the whole brewing process. I love it.

Congratulations on finding such a fun new way to enjoy your caffeine fix. There's nothing better than that first sip of hot coffee/tea in the morning when it's JUST finished brewing so it's screaming hot and you feel the heat all the way down to your toes and your whole body just sort of zings and says "yep, I'm awake. I can start the day now."

Man, I love caffeine.

Hate to tell you but Starbucks don't make good coffee (well, you might find an occasional barista who makes a decent one). The only way to get REALLY good coffee is with fresh beans (roasted in the last one to four weeks, maybe five depending on the bean) which are ground just before you use them. Doesn't matter if you're using an espresso machine, stovetop moka pot or French press/plunger - you can't make good coffee from stale beans though you can make bad coffee from good beans. I've just started roasting my own green beans in a popcorn popper and it's the BEST coffee I've ever had (and cheaper too).

Totally agree...I ordered whole beans straight from Italy - AnaPhylaxis

I ordered a "trio" pack, which is 3 different types of beans for different types of espresso. I can't wait to try them all, LOL!

how do you do that - sm

Could you please post (or e-mail) with details? Where do you get green beans? How does the popcorn popper roast them? Tell me everything please.

a local roastery - they import the beans and sell them roasted or green. Google might show you a local supplier otherwise there should be plenty of online suppliers who can post them to you as well.

www.sweetmarias.com has a good intro video re: roasting beans in a popper and there's lots of hits if you google something like "roast coffee popper". Specialised coffee forums will have people who can answer questions as well. I only started roasting a couple of weeks ago and am already hooked although I also love the blend of roasted beans I get from my local guy too!

Just ordered one! - shipwreckec

You've inspired me! After my usual obsessive research, the best price I could find was at Amazon, free shipping, no tzx! I'm ready for something beyond my French press, and this sounds like a great step up.

Now I have to find some decent decaf, since caffeinated makes me uncomfortably hyper. Any ideas?

Stalking the mailman!

Try either Cafe Bustelo or Kimbo both of whom make what is supposed to be excellent decaf. :-)

There is nothing I would not do for great coffee and great coffee makers. I love the stuff and am a total coffee freak. It's really good with a dash of Bailey's Irish Cream. :)
