Replaced hip, now PT forever?

A friend's mother had a hip replacement about 2-3 years ago. Now the physician tells her she will have to do physical therapy x2 times a week and said she would need it the rest of her life. I have never heard of anything like this. The mother is unable to afford extra $$$ per month to go that many times a week and says she can swing maybe twice a month. Has anyone else heard of forever ongoing PT for a hip replacement? TIA.;

[ In Reply To ..]I had a hip replacement 6 years ago. I did go to PT right after, but only 2 times per week for 4 weeks. I kept all the exercise instructions and if it starts to bother me, I just do those exercises at home. Maybe that would work for her.

[ In Reply To ..]told her she would have to continue to do her physical therapy exercises for the rest of her life, but she misinterpreted that to mean she would have to attend formal physical therapy. Asking the physician for clarification would probably clear that up.
