Semidetached or townhouse question

Question for anyone in this type of housing. My neighbors are having work done on their house and their workers are always on my side on my roof or patio doing things to their house without even asking permission and their contractors arent the neatest and I just wonder how to handle this from here on in. Dont want to allienate them but I dont want to have to fix up this house after they get finished with doing their work. I dont really appreciate this. I wouldnt do that to anyone elses house unless I asked permission.

Talk directly to the contractor. They probably aren't even thinking about you and that they could be causing problems. Talk to the foremen, tell them that you are worried they are going to mess up your roof or whatever, that they are leaving a mess in your yard (or whatever) and that you don't appreciate it. Let him know that you understand they are trying to get a job done, but you work from home and would like them to be concious of the fact that you are in your house working and to try to be careful. If you talk to your neighbor I don't think it would help, he doesn't have much more control over it than you do, and it would probably only cause hard feelings. Tell the contractor that if they don't clean up after themselves and leave your house untouched, then you will expect them to fix whatever they break (they will and they do) My husband is a contractor and if they break anything or mess anything up either in the house they are working on or around it, they are expected to fix it on their own dime.

I agree with the above post but wanted to share this funny story.

The house beside my parents was having some major remodeling done. My mom was working in her office near that end of the house when she kept hearing the sound of water running. She knew the workers were coming over and using her outdoor faucet for water because the plumbing was temporarily turned off next door. She kept running downstairs and outside to catch them but was never able to. Come to find out, there was a commode just down the hall from her with a stuck handle and it kept refilling! I can just imagine my mother saying to herself....I am gonna catch them this time!

they may fight you some on it. We had our roof replaced back in 2003, the workers broke/cracked one of our skylights (aged hard plastic ugly bubble thing, so we were not heartbroken) just by the pressure of them dropping the pallets of shingles on the roof next to the skylight, and they dropped them, not gently laid them down. Had a fun time working those 2 days (2000-sq foot ranch). They denied it of course but it was not like that before they started on the roof. So they replaced it for free with a nice new flat glass one, and we also had them do the other one on the back side (had 2) so they would match, so we paid them an extra $75 for that.

I will talk to the roofers when they come to work. We also have some hornets around the back of the house in the eaves so they will have to be aware of that also. I think letting them know I have expensive equipment in the rooms right under where the houses attach will keep them more on their toes also in case they would cause a leak.

Okay, here is a question that I have not seen come up here. While watching news today this just crossed my mind. If the government sets an insurance rate you have to pay based upon what you make per year, do they take into account all your other bills, and that sometimes as ICs we don't get any work coming in at times, and then what they set is more than what you can afford (i.e. more money than your paycheck and you still have to pay all your bills). Doctor tells me I'll be out of work 6 weeks but as I'm an MT and just sit at my desk anyway, I don't see a 6-week absence as being necessary. One of my 2yo males has a cyst on the side of his head. I just noticed it this morning, it's about the size of a golfball and underneath his ear. Its not in his mouth. I have an insurance Marketplace question. If my income turns out to be higher than expected for 2017, will I have to pay a penalty? My family and I are selling our house and moving out of state, but our house is going to sell before we actually move, so we have to rent a house for about 6 months. So, I went to look at a house over the weekend and was amazed! For $1300 a month, it was a 3 bedroom house, very old, and a total wreck.
