Question for anyone that lives in a semidetached home.

I live in a semidetached home and my house sits front from the other house about maybe 2 feet. The neighbors want to build a full porch with roof about a foot away from my house which of course then I couldnt get to the part of my house which sits front from theirs without getting on their roof or probably not even being able to get to parts of it because of the roof etc. Also they would be doing major construction about a foot away from my house and sewer line. I am not very happy about this. I would expect this has to go through zoning. Anyone else ever have this situation.

check your township office and see what the zoning laws are (how many feet from other structures/property lines) and what permits need to obtained AND if they need to be displayed while work is being performed. If they begin breaking ground and there is no permit visible, turn them into the local police or to the township zoning office/inspectors. You also need to do your research though and find out where your property lines lie and if they perhaps have right of way onto your property.

My concern is being unable to access that portion of the house if it would need repairs without getting on their roof and probably couldnt get to part of this house. I would have to get someone to look at the situation here to see what impact all this could have. I have no clue how they think someone could build a roof and so forth one foot away from this house. They couldnt even work on it in that amount of space.

I would think this would be a safety hazard, too. Can't image even wanting to expand so close to my neighbors like that. People never cease to amaze me. Good luck to you.

My son is home for an extended visit and he sleepwalks.
