Opinions: Best search engine that doesn't invade privacy

Posted: Feb 29, 2012

I was tired of the changes Google made anyway.  If I wanted other words when I put something in quotes, I'd have put them there.

So far I'm using Duck Duck Go and it seems pretty good.

Tried Dogpile and just didn't get good results (for the job).

Do they invade your privacy too?

I'm worried what kind of stuff they would bombard me with when I'm just looking something up for the job.

Startpage or ixquick (same)--uses Google results and is the most private out there. I like it a lot.

I use ask.com and it's alwasy been really good. - Zville MT

I've never heard of Duck Duck Go - I'll have to try that one, too.

Yeah - those Obama sanctions really scaring the hell out of Putin.  Check the news all over the net today (while US still can access the net freely), and read the troop actions, pressure on Ukraine, hike in fuel prices.  Yeah Obama,  you got Putin on the run just like yo had Al Queada on the run.  Facebook Twitter Google+ LinkedIn Email Print Save March 19 (Bloomberg) -- Bloomberg’s Peter Cook discusses possible ramifications of U.S. ...

"A Former Engine Of The G.O.P., The Town Hall Meeting, Aug 14, 2013
They're hardly alone in that. Our new congressman's "town halls" are a joke. He hides at the other end of a phone line his constituents can only listen in on, prescreened and scripted "questions" the only ones "answered," all statements made in politicalese--inane blurb devoid of information alternating with catchphrases designed to focus fear and resentment on the other party. Just wish the Tea Party and Freedom Works would start demonstrasting in his office; he was their candidate ...

Stop Hurting Your Engine By 'warming Up' The Car When It's Cold OutJan 26, 2016
Business Insider January 21, 2016 Harsh driving conditions in winter are already hard on your car, but you could be making things a lot worse if you're turning your vehicle on in the morning so it can 'warm up' before you drive off. If you're one of the many drivers who thinks it's important to idle your car — turn it on and let it sit — in these frigid winter months to protect the engine, you've likely fallen victim to a myth that may be doin ...

Privacy On Life SupportOct 13, 2010
Before his forced resignation, President Richard Nixon declared, "When the president does it, that means it is not illegal." Our current chief executive, however, speaking this year at the Pentagon on Sept. 11, said of our terrorist enemies: "They may seek to exploit our freedoms, but we will not sacrifice the liberties we cherish or hunker down behind walls of suspicion and distrust." By contrast, on Sept. 27, Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Charlie Savage, the press' Paul Revere guardian ...

School Privacy Practices?Feb 09, 2014
Does anyone know the answer to this question with a link that I could read about it?  My child's school is ran by a few women that I'm sorry but they honestly LOVE drama.  They are the type that backstab, talk about people, try to get people in trouble, etc.  My child was out of school (with a doctor's excuse) and FIVE different people from the school questioned her on why she was out and wanted to know exactly what she went to the doctor for.  Then, the next t ...

Something To Beware Of/privacy IssuesJan 03, 2016
I have been spending the day studying. The issues of privacy and what lawyers call a "reasonable expectation of privacy" came up. A girlfriend of mine recently (just on a whim) did that thing where you can have your DNA tested by that organization called Ancestry--the purpose was to determine her ethnicity. (Her parents were both Italian immigrants and she herself was born in NYC.) Anyway, she paid about $100 and the test told her she was 70% Italian, 20% German, and 10% West Indian. The We ...

Orbituary Column: This Privacy Thing Has Gone A Little Far, Say SomeoneJan 06, 2010
name, address, father's name, mother's name, etc., etc. and you call the funeral home trying to make sure this is the same person you think it is (a neighbor that used to live behind me for almost 30 years), you give everything and the funeral home says they cannot say it is the same person? They told me they could call the family of the deceased and maybe then they could call me. I said what if wrong family, no I would not put anyone through that and how do I know to show up for eithe ...

Sarah Palin Complains About Loss Of PrivacyNov 05, 2010
Sarah Palin Complains About Loss of Privacy While Being Filmed for Reality TV Show Episode One of the much-discussed Sarah Palin reality TV show, Sarah Palin's Alaska, has debuted to the world. Palin kicks things off by lamenting the invasion of her family's privacy that she says occurred when journalist Joe McGinniss spent the summer in the house next door. Our behavior has certainly changed this summer because of this new neighbor. I think it is an intrusion, an invasion ...

Intriguing experiments by Alessandro Acquisti, a behavioral economist, suggest that people often reveal more than they mean to online. I Need Some OpinionsDec 31, 2009
I have a friend I just connected with who lives across the country.  She lived next door to me.  We grew up together, played together, and went to school together.  Went to her wedding and then she moved and I lost touch.  Anyway (sorry to get side tracked, that has nothing to do with my post).  Anyway…when I told her what I do (MT), she told me her daughter took 3 classes but couldn’t afford to finish the training, and asked me my opinions of the MT field a ...

Need Some Opinions Please!!Feb 15, 2010
I have had a lot of problems with my breasts over the years, have had 3 biopsies in the left and 1 in the right but thank God they have all be negative.  However, over the last several weeks I have been experiencing something different, pain and burning in my right breast along with swelling (not a lot but enough for me to notice).  I have performed self-examinations and other than exquisite tenderness throughout the breast I cannot find any masses (I actually do have a 6 mm nodul ...

Opinions - Is He Just Not That Into Me - Or Something Else? SmMay 17, 2010
Ok... so I met this guy about a month ago - I am the one going out with a guy almost 11 years younger.  He's a very nice guy! Every time I see him he is nice and we talk literally for hours.  He told me off the bat he is not much of a phone person so he doesn't call much, but he sends a few texts every day.  At first he wanted to see me several days a week... one of my friends called him my "boyfriend" though and I think it freaked him out. He had told me he was definite ...

I Could Use Some Opinions Jun 25, 2010
Hey everyone, this is my first time posting on this board, but I thought I'd see if I could get some input. My ex husband met this woman and moved her in with him after only knowing her for 1-1/2 months. I wasn't real thrilled with the idea because we have two kids and joint custody, so they spend half their time at their dad's. Honestly, I was feeling a little jealous about some other woman spending time with my kids. I met her and she seemed nice, so I got used to the idea and ...

So, my daughter, who is 9, had all sorts of ear problems, stayed on antibiotics and had to get tubes, whcih stayed in for only 3 weeks and I opted not to get the procedure again.  She finally grew out of it.  My son, he is 13 and never had ear problems.  A month ago though he got a case of Sterp and ended up with a ruptured eardrum.  The doctor told me to take him to ENT to make sure the ear perforation healed after the one round of antibiotics.  Took him to ENT and it h ...

Opinions, PleaseMay 26, 2013
Hi all, What do you think about people who pray for, what I term, silly things? Like what color drapes to buy, what shoes to wear that day, etc. I find it rather silly because people have to take controls over their own lives. I do not believe in "handing everything over" to the higher power. Our higher power (who I term God) gave us brains and will and power to make decisions. I don't call this an abuse of prayer, I just don't understand why some people can't think for themsel ...

BP buys Google, Yahoo oil spill search terms By Hibah Yousuf, staff reporterJune 7, 2010: 6:37 PM ET NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- As BP continues to try to stop the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, the energy giant is also dealing with a public relations nightmare. That's why the company is snapping up search phrases like "oil spill" and "oil spill claims" on Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) and Yahoo (YHOO, Fortune 500). The strategy, says a company spokeswoman, aims to "assist those w ...

Opinions From Cat PeopleJan 03, 2012
I need a serious opinion.  We have friends who have 2 cats, full-breed, who they have had daily bonding with for a good 2 years.  Said friends are going on a 3-month trip out of the country and are boarding the cats here in the states.  The one cat (before owners have even left) is showing signs of something isn't right--getting out of the house and not duly returning home, peeing smack dab on top of the bed.).   These cats are brother and sister, and will be somewh ...
