My cats unfortunately get on the counter to look out the kitchen window. I cannot stop them, but try to curb them from going any further than that one spot. I use a water squirt gun if they go any further, and go through a lot of antibacterial kitchen spray needless to say. They are both indoor/outdoor cats, but are "pampered" cats and do not go out in bad weather and living in Maine that is an extended period of time in the winter. I hear what you are saying it is "yuck."

We (my DH and I ) screw with her as she just does not like pets, too dirty, shed, lick you, cats walk on the counter or table (when my DH was a child he had a cat, miracle in itself that she let him have it, one day it jumped on the kitchen counter, the next day she got rid of it, COLD, COLD, COLD). So sometimes just to tick her off when they are visiting we let the dogs in (3) for a short while (we put them out normally since she hates dogs (all animals actually), and we then put the cat food on the kitchen table so the cat will jump up there (our cat never goes on the counters, and rarely ever on the kitchen table, only does so to get a good vantage point to watch the hamster who is out by the table). MIL generally does not say anything (has brought up the story of DHs cat on the counter in the past though and how she got rid of it because of that, which he has never really forgiven her for) but we know it kills her. My girls kiss the dogs on their noses, pet the cat, play with their hamster and rabbits....I am sure all the animals here drive her nuts as well as my lack of Sally homeaker cleanliness (her house is spotless, then then again no pets or kids though I am sure it was spotless when she had kids too). My DH actually has her germophobia and need for clean but luckily he lives with it being generally clean and presentable, not spotless and sterile as her house is. More important things in life than having a spotless house, if you don't want pets fine then but don't put down others because we love our pets. I'd rather have a cat walk on a counter then go to a resturant and be served by someone who did not wash their hands after going to the bathroom...your cat is much less likely to have hepatitis (if they can ever get that)!

It's fairly easy to train them to not do this SM - anon

Use double-sided tape on the edges of counters, tables, desks, etc. Cats do not like the feel of sticky tape on their paws. They will soon learn not to jump on these places and the tape can be removed. Do, however, have a designated place for them to look out a window. One special table they can lay on is enough, but this is vital.

Ummmm.....don\'t get cats then, geesh - MT4Eight

Some people just do not like animals. Fine--Then they should not have animals. But as an animal lover who has had cats (and dogs) all my life and caught no cat-scratch fever or gotten sick from them, it's sometimes a matter of perspective. People do gross, unclean things all the time that animals do not do. (Now, posters will get on here claiming they have never stuck their finger in their ear, nose, scratched their scalp or their rear withOUT running and washing their hands each and every time---Baloney.) Also, many people are smokers--a very dirty habit. I would rather eat a meal in a nonsmoker, animal-lover's house, than in a smoker's house where a smoker who doesnt wash hands yet handles the food, smoke/ashes get in the food, ashtrays are washed in the same sink as dishes, etc. Some people just make too much of animals supposed uncleanliness. But certainly if one does not like animals, they should not have them.

My cat eats and drinks with his paws - yep, piece by piece and slurp by slurp. It didn't take us long to walk in on him dipping his paws into my husband's cup for a "drink". Yep - little pieces of cat litter! yuck!! Now we have to keep all cups at the kitchen counter unless we are sitting right beside them (my cat doesn't jump on the counters - too overweight).

I had a cat who would eat and drink with her paws. Didn't go into the cups though, but she used to drag the feather toys next to the water bowl and chew on them in between licking the water off her paw. Never understood why, crazy cat. I miss her, Daisy.

Cat Stopped Using Litter BoxJul 24, 2013
to pee in yesterday.  He will do his other business, though, in the box.   Yesterday I had to put my dog and cat outside on my screened-in porch while my house was being steam cleaned.  While that was going on, a loud thunder storm developed.  The poor cat started having a panic attack.  Once the cleaner guy left, I let them back in.  The cat was panting from being over heated.  I got him to sit in my lap on a blanket to stroke his fur and he calmed down, but ...

Cat And Litter Box ProblemJun 01, 2015
Long story short (I wish): I realized our cat was peeing on the new carpet in the family room. She has 2 litter boxes and has always used one for pee and one for poop, but as she in an indoors/outdoors cat, she rarely uses either box except in winter.. We took her to the vet who said that he didn't think she had a UTI but that she might have/have had an infection of the vulva (blank stare from my husband at that point). The vet gave us meds which we used without really knowing if she did ha ...

Any Cat Owners Here Use A Litter Maid?Dec 07, 2011
Does anyone here use a Litter Maid or other "automatic" litter box, and if so how do you like it? My little girl won't use the box if there is ANYTHING in it, and since I can't monitor the situation 24/7 I am thinking about "investing" in a Litter Maid. Thanks in advance. ...

Speaking Of Cats - What Is The Name Of Your Cat/cats?Oct 06, 2010
I find it interesting what people name their pets and how they selected a specific pet  name.  Mine are both pure black and litter mates.  At first we were gravitating towards names that would fit black cats one of which was Amos and Andy just t o name one.  They ended up with the names of JJ and Mojo.  JJ was short for Jimmie Johnson (my husband is a NASCAR fan) and Mojo was named related to blues music, which we attend a blues festival every year in Main ...

Everyone Is Going Dirty On TVOct 08, 2016
Well I thought after the tapes were released that would be it. Okay, I then see an ad for breast cancer and this person is getting a tattoo. She got it on her finger (guess which one) and as soon as her tattoo is finished, she flashes this finger with the tattoo on it. To me that is dirty for a cancer ad. Honestly, I am positively sick at all the awful crap that is being spewed and the reasons for it on TV in politics and now in breast cancer ads. ...

The rush to impeach President Trump is on by an opposition party that lacks the votes, evidence or legal basis for such a move. But since when did an illegal left-wing coup need any of those things? No Dem has been more honest about the real motive for impeachment than Congressman Ted Lieu. “We should not give him a chance to govern,” Lieu had declared after Trump had been in office for ten days. And he predicted that, “I do believe that if we win back the House of Representatives, i ...

How Do You Get Rid Of Cats?Oct 20, 2009
No, I don't mean putting them in a sack with a brick and throwing them in a river... but how do you keep them from hanging around your home? My next door neighbor has started putting food out for strays and now there are 3 half grown kitten-cats that are hanging around not just her apartment, but mine too. Yesterday I sat down my groceries on my front step while I got my key out and they were nosing around my bags. Then when a few minutes later when I went to take out trash, they followed m ...

Why Do My Cats Do This? Dec 01, 2009
Usually my 3 cats come running when I give them treats. This morning 2 showed up, where is the other one? I have looked all through the house. Where in the world do kitties go when they just want to be alone, a kittie retreat? If they do not want to be found, usually that is what happens. I have looked in every nook and cranny, behind TVs, behind furniture. I know that kitty was just here this morning. He sits outside my bedroom door each morning until I appear. Now poof! ...

Anyone Have Cats?Oct 28, 2010
I never liked them but got this one when my mother died and I love this cat now. She goes out the doggie door and pretty much acts like one of the dogs. There's a stray cat that keeps coming over the fence and I finally figured out it was coming in during the night and eating all the treats and food left in the kitchen for my cat. Last night I heard mind screaming, got downstairs and the stray cat had attacked her. Mine hid for a long time and finally came out of hiding. She has some s ...

My Cats Have NEVER Been Healthier!Jan 21, 2012
Over the years my cats have been on different dry and canned foods: Science Diet, expensive stuff from the vet that I can't recall the name of right now, etc.  One of my babies has some allergies, resulting in sneezing and some colon issues.  But overall they are healthy cats. A new Pet Club opened next door to the Wal-Mart, and I have been buying dry food there in large (30 lb. or so) bags to save some money.  Plus they have a $5 off coupon on the back of the Fry' ...

Heck, for all ...

How To Shave My CatsOct 14, 2013
Ok, maybe not shaving my cat but here is the rundown. I have 4 cats, 2 with extremely long furry coats and they shed so much that I am almost drowning in fur.
