Anyone have any home remedies to help relax

Posted: Nov 6, 2012

Sorry, but this may be lengthy.  I will try and keep it short.

I am a relatively calm person.  Tonight an incident happened and I am thrown so out of whack.  DH was out in the front yard and a suspicious character walked by then stood hovering around the trees in front of our next door neighbors house.  He was there quite a while, but then when DH looked back he was gone, so thought the guy moved on.  We called the neighbor to tell them about it and we said we'd keep an eye out.  She called me back and in the middle of her conversation started screaming for help and oh my God help me.  I called 911 and opened the door to see if I could get to her.  Luckily she came running to my house and I yanked her inside.  The character had gone around her back yard and was waiting for her.  He had a towel rolled up next to their glass door.  She said something didn't look right and she turned on the lights and he was standing right there with his pants down ready to brake their window and come in and most likely rape her.  They were told by police that he most likely jumped our fence and ran through our back yard to get away.  They said there is gang activity going on on the next street and gangs are starting to walk up and down casing the houses here.

I cannot tell you what a panic this is putting me in, but I've never been panciked so I'm not sure that is what I am.  I'm terrified.  Every little noise I'm jumping up.  I want to keep the curtains closed and will be afraid to look out tomorrow when I open them for the day.  I'm now typing with just one earphone in listening for anything unusual.  I'm afraid to leave my house for fear they will be watching for people to leave and them come and rob us (and we have pets) and I'm getting panicked thinking about when my husband will have to leave and I will be here alone.  Tomorrow he is staying home with me, but I just don't know what to do.  Don't even know if I'll be able to sleep cos everything is making me jump.

I don't have a doctor and will not be going to the doctor, so looking for something that would help relax me.  Anyone have any suggestions.

Oh my goodness - That is so scary

I would for sure get some type of alarm system so that if someone were to break in, the police would be notified before you would even know they were in your house. I also would have flood lights all over the outside of the house on as soon as it gets dark. Maybe get a huge dog!

The only remedy I have for being calm is chamomile tea and I do not think that will help you. I think the fear you have is real and I almost think it is good to have a hightened sense of awareness right now.

I would be demanding of the police department to shut down that gang activity on the next block and also demand high police presence on your block as they know this is now an issue. Just them driving around every half hour with their flood light shining into yards might be a deterant.

I would also get a few bottles of pepper spray and keep one on your desk, by your bed, in the kitchen, bathroom, every room you frequent so that if someone were to break in, you can blast them and that might give you enough time to get away.

I will be praying for your safety.

Sorry to hear about this - OldMT

I agree that this fear is real/realistic and not some sort of unfounded panic reaction. I would be jumping out of my skin. If at all possible, I would be moving the heck out of there. There is no one safe place to live, but gang activity is NOT everywhere. It at least eliminates that element.

I agree with the alarm, too. You could also either get a huge watch dog, or get a recorded very loud barking, intimidating-sounding dog. Some people post stickers or signs by their yard that there is a watch dog present. I'm sure the criminals know this, but they may think twice about going to your house.

Get a gun if you don't have one and know how to use it.

Also agree with being proactive and having an alarm system and getting together with other neighbors and the police to shut that gang activity down.

These thugs don't expect folks to fight back and rely on fear, and that gets old pretty quickly. I'd make darn sure these "gangs" knew I'd be protecting myself and that the neighbors are watching out for each other.

So sorry you're having to deal with living in fear in your own house.

Homeopathic/home Remedies For Eczema?Aug 08, 2011
I have a few spots of eczema that have flared up and are itching and flaking like crazy.  Obivously can't afford a trip to the doctor.  Anyone here have any good old-fashioned home remedies to relieve the itch that actually work? I've heard everything from crushed aspirin dissolved in water and applied with cotton balls to milk-soaked cotton balls applied to the area but before trying any of these, thought I'd run it thru this forum first.  TIA! ...

Any Home Remedies For Getting Rid Of Green Stuff GrowingFeb 29, 2012
I guess you would call it mold or mildew, but I thought that stuff was black.  It is growing on my porch railings, porch steps, and on the side of the house.  I guess there is not enough sun there.  What can you use to get rid of it, and perhaps deter it from coming back quickly.  Will bleach discolor the vinyl siding, which is not white? What do you do? ...

Sharron Angle On Second Amendment Remedies.Jan 08, 2011
During the 2010 midterm elections, Republican senate nominee Sharron Angle of Nevada said that "if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies." Michele Bachmann (R-Minn) said she wanted the residents of her state "armed and dangerous" over President Obama's plan t ...

I Just Got Back Home After Going To 6 DifferentFeb 25, 2012
only to find none at all on the shelves.  "WTF?" I'm thinking.  Maybe I had somehow ended up in the Twilight Zone. At the 6th store I went to, I asked what the deal was with Excedrin.  Where was it? Nobody knew or could give me an answer.  So I come home and type "Excedrin" into Google, and was shocked to learn that it's been recalled! (Along with 2 other, can't-do-without staples, No-Doz and Gas-X). Apparently it was recalled a month ago (something about t ...

News in from Ohio, the home state of the Boehner.  Apparently the republ guvinator, the self-same fella whose first act in office was ramming through a union busting law (which was later overwhelmingly swatted down by the voters) decided he was going to give his State O' The State address in a small town (302 miles round trip) instead of the state capitol.  He claims it will add no cost.  Guess he doesnt consider satellite equipment and the cost and time of all the LEGISLATOR ...

GUESS WHO CAME HOME!!Apr 09, 2011
Just wanted to let all of you know we brought my little Tiny home.  We picked her up about 11:00 a.m.  Saturday.   I can honestly say when she was brought into the room where we were waiting it was one of the most touching things I have ever seen. The young assistant told us he would get her, and he asked us to have a seat.  When the door opened a few minutes later he was holding her in his arms.  It was not hard to see she has been through quite a bit.  She l ...

Re. Nursing Home Patient(s)Oct 15, 2009
Several family members while in nursing homes have been approached by religious "Zealouts" trying to push the "right faith" by staff or so-called "visitors" on them. I am so sick of it! My Dad was presented with a Bible of different faith at 81 and dying. Now another member at 85 in failure was presented with 3 different "faiths" by the "staff" and I am enraged. Being asked questions by 85-YO as to what is "B'hai" and what is "Spiritualism." I am so sick of it. Keep your Bible(s) off their ...

I Found A New Home For My Dog - To Anyone Who Was Interested.Sep 01, 2010
It was a difficult decision, but I decided to avoid worrying about whether or not she could or would escape any fence I would build and then there's the worrying she may bite someone else and have to be put down.  Anyway, within four hours of my ad appearing in the local paper, I had met a nice couple who live on 20 acres and have another boxer and they were looking for a playmate.  I took my baby to their house so I could check it out and everything looked great.
