Having guests for Christmas dinner, do not normally

to get some ideas about easy to fix, non-fill up items we might have prior to the dinner. We have had company arrive before, nothing fixed and dinner not completed so this year will go with appetizers. Ideas, recipes welcomed. ;

For something easy that requires no cooking, I love Alouette cheese dip. I don't know if every grocery store has it though. You can just put it out with other cheeses, crackers and pepperoni or something like that, even add some grapes and other fruit. They have a website you can look at for serving ideas too, alouettecheese.com. Also, a lot of stores have dried fruit and nut trays this time of year that you could just buy or you could put together one yourself.

I serve this every year, pinsheels. Big hit. Not filling, but will tide them over while they chat. Get Buddig beef or the equivalent, and lie flat. Mix in a bowl softened Philly cream cheese and cut up green onion stalks. Mix well. Spread on beef, roll up, and cut in pieces about 1 inch long. secure with toothpicks for easy pickup.
Also little smoked sausage in barbeque sauce and let meld together in a small crock pot for hours before guests arrive. Have plastic bowls and cocktail spears to pick them up. Hope this helps.

When Invited To A Wedding, Are Guests Required To Dress AccordingFeb 25, 2015My father-in-law is getting married. My husband is best man, my son is doing something during the ceremony like rolling out the aisle runner with one of the bride's grandson, and my daughter is a junior bridesmaid with bride's three granddaughters. My son and husband are wearing tuxes rented by the groom and my daughter's dress was purchased by the bride along the other bridesmaid dresses. I have no "job" in the wedding at all except for getting my family ready, ...

Whats For Dinner?Apr 24, 2010With a big skillet of Spanish rice in progress, I'm gettin' a Texas-size hankering for some beefy, cheesey stuffed bell peppers. It never has made much sense to me to put rice over rice, so I don't want to use rice in the stuffing mix.
Does anyone know if cheese by itself can serve as the only recipe binder? I'm not crazy about the texture eggs produce either and do not plan to use bread crumbs. I like the middle of the peppers to be on the ...
Looking For Dinner Idea - Here's What I've GotAug 24, 2013I'm looking to make something for dinner and at a loss for ideas. I've got a zuccini from my garden and a little bit of brocoli left. We were sauting the zuccini and brocoli in olive oil, garlic and basal (yum).
Other stuff around my house is I've got rice, a couple potatoes. Got cans of various kinds of beans (cannoli, white, kidney, pinto, garbanzos, and black) and I've got cans of tomatoes. I've also got some tortillas (flour and corn).

Same Old Turkey Dinner Every Year.Nov 13, 2012Every year I make turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, homemade bread and pumpkin pie. The daughters will bring another dessert or two. These are all traditional foods that my family enjoys, but I am so bored with it. I need some new, fresh, and different ideas. Even if I did something different with the beans or potatoes. Maybe a fruit salad?
I still want some of the traditional foods, but does anyone have any idea ...

How Many Times A Week Do You Cook Dinner?Oct 16, 2011I was just wondering if people cook dinner every day of the week anymore? When I was a kid, my mom made dinner every night except for Fridays which was "eat out" night. Course mom was a full time mom and housewife. Today's women generally work FT and are trying to do it all.
I've been feeling guilty because I don't cook as often as I used to. One of my daughter's friends asked me why I never cook dinner! I do cook dinner, just not as much as mos ...

How Thanksgiving Dinner Differs From North To South...Nov 10, 2009I live in the south. How does Thanksgiving dinner differ from the northern states to the sourthern ones? From east to west?
Here in the south we have the usual turkey like everyone does. We have the cornbread dressing (stuffing), chicken and dumplings, veggies, no steamed ones though, we don't eat much steamed veggies around here. They are boiled with meat seasoning such as bacon or ham, etc. We have the broccoli casserole. We also have baked ham.& ...

Last Night's White House Correspondents DinnerApr 26, 2015I don't think there were any distractions, like killing bin Laden, for last night. I think President Obama felt completely FREE to tell it like it is. No reelection to worry about, nothing. He has his pens and he will do what he can in his next 19 months. Should be an interesting and hopefully, productive ride.
His anger translator was not so much funny as true. There were a few funny parts to it, sort of, and I am a great President Obama supporter--I was looking for funny. I can o ...

The Christmas FruitcakeDec 08, 2011I say there are two kinds of people in this world, those who like fruitcake and those who don't; my son tells me I am wrong, there are three kinds of people in this world, those who are good at math and those who are not.
I like fruitcake, I admit it, I'm not ashamed to say so -- so last night I bought a little itty-bitty $3.99 fruitcake to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with a cup of herbal tea and a small slice after I finish work.
My son, on the other hand, says "Ug ...

Christmas GiftsDec 02, 2011Need advice. We have friends with a 10 YO and an 8 YO. This may sound silly - but I feel that our friendship has evolved to that of us going to visit them, us sending gifts for holidays, us emailing and calling them. We always get lovely thank you notes, but they live two hours away and they haven't been to our house in about five years and we haven't been to theirs in 2 years (husband refuses to go over there until they come here)! .
