steamed pork belly buns, jasmine rice, steamed broccoli and broccoli slaw. I started the pork belly yesterday, so I am really excited to see how it comes out. Tomorrow we are doing grilled strip steaks, zucchini corn pancakes with tomato salad. Look on Pintrest. You should see something that looks good.

Spam night - I hate Spam

It is my daughters turn to cook and she ALWAYS makes Spam with rice and tomato sauce. Yuck!
It is nice that your daughter cooks for you, - but that sounds awful...

Have you told her you hate it or do you smile and gag it down? Maybe you could cook dinner together a few times and teach her to cook some other things. It is so funny that so few girls know how to cook anymore. My nephews and son all have girlfriends who have no clue about what to do in the kitchen. I've tried to teach them, but they are lost causes. Maybe it is a lack of patience. I always cooked with my grandmother and knew my way around the kitchen at a young age.

For me, it's simple - I love, love, love eating healthy. I was the one who posted the sautéed chicken recipe. I not only work as a full-time MT, but I am also pretty close to being a full-time student on top of that. Preparing/cooking dinner probably takes me less than an hour a day, depending on how much chopping and dicing is involved. Also, many nights I make enough for the next day, so it's just a matter of reheating every other day or so. It can be done! :)
Beans & Ham cooked in a crock pot - see msg
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't make this tonight, but it is one of my simple dishes when I either don't feel like cooking or don't have time.
I take white beans (Northern or Navy beans) in a bag, poor them in a large glass bowel, rinse them and let them soak in water over night. The next day I put them in the crock pot and season them with onion powder, garlic powder and a little Lawry's seasoning salt (of course you add water to the crock pot). I let them simmer in the crock pot on low throughout the day, stirring ever so often (if Im home) and then about an hour before they are about done, I will add chopped or cubed ham to simmer in with them. I use the smoked ham that comes off the bone.
Sometimes I will use ham hocks and ham both. If I use ham hocks I will put them in the crock pot ahead of time to slow cook for about an hour or to then add the beans and later the chopped ham, but not as much ham if I use the ham hocks. It's really delicious and if you like corn bread and don't have time to make home made or simply don't feel like it then I mix up a box of jiffy mix corn muffin mix and that bakes up in the oven in about 15 to 20 minutes. My crock pot is my best buddy when it comes to cooking.
You can put a roast in there in the morning when before you start work with a small amount of water, minced garlic, seasonings, onions and let it cook on low and later slice some potato chunks and toss in with it about an hour before the roast is done and let the potatoes simmer with it for about the last hour.
Another idea is Italian sausage. You can put some Italian sausage in the crock pot with just a small amount of water, slice some green peppers and onions and let it simmer on low in the crock pot and have sausage with peppers a onions with a quick salad.
You can do cabbage and corned beef in the crock pot - Add your cabbage when corned beef is about a half hour from being done so cabbage does not get mushy.
You can do barbecue beef in the crock pot or sloppy joes, chicken & dumplings, stroganoff and on and on. When time is limited use your crock pot. Most anything you cook in the crock pot really only requires minimal prep time.
Dont forget about your broiler - You can cook a steak in

the broiler in no time flat and have quick tossed salad and there is always good old famous baked chicken. It might be a little hot out to cook in the oven, but if you have central air you can always season up some chicken and stick it in the oven to back and it takes no time at all to simmer up some fresh veggies to go with it, like broccoli or green beans and at this time of the year, fresh sweet corn is good and cheap, like 20 cents an ear and takes no time to boil while the chicken is baking.
A pressure cooker can be a good friend. - Dinosaur

Buy a good pressure cooker, and learn how to use it. I prefer stove top over the electric models. I made stuffed peppers last night in 25 minutes(fresh peppers right out of the garden). You can cook pretty much anything in a pressure cooker, ribs, chicken, roast beef, veggies, all in less than 30 minutes. Some things I sear right in the cooker before adding a little liquid and finishing it off with pressure. Also, you can take the cheapest cut of meat and it comes out so tender you can cut it with a fork. Not to mention cooking with steam is healthy. It is one of the most used tools in my kitchen.

Whats For Dinner?Apr 24, 2010With a big skillet of Spanish rice in progress, I'm gettin' a Texas-size hankering for some beefy, cheesey stuffed bell peppers. It never has made much sense to me to put rice over rice, so I don't want to use rice in the stuffing mix.
Does anyone know if cheese by itself can serve as the only recipe binder? I'm not crazy about the texture eggs produce either and do not plan to use bread crumbs. I like the middle of the peppers to be on the ...

Same Old Turkey Dinner Every Year.Nov 13, 2012Every year I make turkey, dressing, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, cranberry sauce, homemade bread and pumpkin pie. The daughters will bring another dessert or two. These are all traditional foods that my family enjoys, but I am so bored with it. I need some new, fresh, and different ideas. Even if I did something different with the beans or potatoes. Maybe a fruit salad?

How Thanksgiving Dinner Differs From North To South...Nov 10, 2009I live in the south. How does Thanksgiving dinner differ from the northern states to the sourthern ones? From east to west?
Here in the south we have the usual turkey like everyone does. They are boiled with meat seasoning such as bacon or ham, etc. We have the broccoli casserole. We also have baked ham.& ...
