thanksgiving dinner

Do you have a dish you serve that is traditional for your family but not your typical run-of-the-mill Thanksgiving fare?
Looking forward to next Thursday.

Cope's Dried Corn - sm

This is a typical Amish dish. It's a lot like creamed corn, but the texture is a bit chewier. Cope's is the brand name, and the dried corn is purchased in the grocery store here. It's just a matter of soaking it, adding some milk, a bit of sugar, and salt, and letting it simmer for a while. It's thick and creamy and oh so good!

Last year I tried Paula Deen's Corn Souffle. I love any kind of corn but this was a change from the usual canned corn and it was delicious. I thought I would give it a try and it was a hit. Be sure though to use real butter for your cooking. I am like Paula in that sense. It just does something for the food a person cooks and can be used in moderation. I make my cornbread dressing from scratch too. So simple to do really for anyone. The trick is to keep it moist. Yes, pecan pie and sweet potato pie, better than pumpkin pie to me and I make mine from my mother's recipe, but I like all pies except Mincemeat. I can kill a whole pie off just by myself over a couple of days. As you can tell, yes I am from the South and love that sweet tea. I hope everyone has a great Turkey Day. I think I am staying home this year and curl up on the couch in front of a hot roaring fire and do nothing but just be lazy.
No "Turkey Day" for us this year - RubySoho

We're doing a slow-roasted peppercorn-crusted prime rib, homemade garlic mashed potatoes, the standard green bean casserole, and rolls. Neither one of us are huge turkey fans and since we're just staying home this year, we just picked one of our very favorite foods to enjoy.
sounds wonderful - love to cook

I do not think the turkey is necessarily the importart part. The important part is being with family, having a great meal that all enjoy and most importantly being thankful for what you have. There are amny people out there who have less then you and you should say a pray for them! Love the ones you are with!
Where do you get a prime rib, as I would love to cook on sometime but not sure where to get it, never see in store!

Does anyone know if cheese by itself can serve as the only recipe binder? I'm not crazy about the texture eggs produce either and do not plan to use bread crumbs. ... ThanksgivingOct 10, 2011 I know it's a little early but i'm a planner. What do you usually do at Thanksgiving? This will be new for me as it is now just me and my 10-y/o son. In the past he'd usually go hunting with his dad and I'd cook/bake all day. They'd come home with any "wayward" buddies for dinner.
