Disability Fraud

Posted: Jun 5, 2013

Does anyone know how to report or prove disability fraud?  I have someone who is receiving full disability benefits but is working under the table and playing sports all the while being "too disabled" to work.  So many people can't get the disability they truly need and this is so unfair.  TIA

Sometimes, you just have to not let what others do bother you and sit back and let karma bite them in the behind. You can Google it for your state and find the appropriate chains to report it to, but then nothing may ever be done and it will more than likely increase your frustration.

I do not agree - see msg pls

These people on fake disability are using YOUR money. They are a big reason for high insurance costs, medical costs, etc. These people get free medical care, free food, low-income housing, while we honest, hard-working people struggle to make ends meet.

I would take a moving picture of this person playing his sports, etc., and report the person, name, rank and serial number. I am thinking you could send it anonymously. Also, there are doctors who perpetrate fraud for their clients, telling them exactly how to fake an injury so that it seems legit.

Actually this is also personal. I'm particularly incensed as my state court system has deemed him, in their infinite wisdom, free of any obligation to pay one thin dime in child support because he's disabled. He's not the brightest bulb in the box as he posted on his facebook page videos of him playing basketball recently. I tried to copy the videos or forward them but he has that option blocked.

First of all, if he is receiving SS, then he should also be getting a child's benefit, which would go to the mother of said children. Call SS and ask about it. He may be receiving that too instead of it going to you!! Also, if the video is on facebook, right click the video and save it to your computer. Then you can attach it into an email.

Cash reward - SM

In my state I read on a website once that there is a cash reward due to anyone who reports someone for disability fraud. It must be proven, of course. However, someone told me the person being reported has the right to confront his accuser in a hearing. I was thinking of reporting my friend's son-in-law, who is working full time, and overtime hours while collecting his disability pay, of course being paid cash by his employer, who is a friend.

Go to the SSA website, sure they have something - sm - XXX

on there for reporting fraud, or google it, how to report social security disability fraud. Love to be that investigator taking the pictures then showing them....hmm, too disabled to work but you can play baseball (or whatever sport) and work for cash too under the table.

I went to the site and there is a form to fill out but the actual getting them to investigate is the concern. Soc sec is swamped and without some really compelling evidence I'm afraid they'll just sweep it under the rug.

If you cannot copy the - videos...

send them the link to his f/b page and let them find out for themselves. Also report to IRS, as if this person is working "under the table" he/she may also not be paying taxes on income earnings. SS is not the only entity that would be interested in this person! Good luck to you!
Or video tape it playing on your computer - sm - XXX

use a Camcorder or a phone to "copy" it then, might not be as crisp and clear but it should make someone stand up and say, "maybe he should not be receiving disability..." least I hope so, gov't throws away so much $$$ between people on welfare or food stamps that should not be (like those lottery winners, was it in Michigan?, were millionaires but got food stamps??? *#&*@!)

What do you have to lose by reporting it? Only the small amount of time it takes you to make the report. And you could be saving the taxpayers (that's us) a whole lot of dough.

Most of the time the higher ups do not care, I - speak from experience

I knew a woman 1 time that was on section 8, freeby house, food stamps, money from the gov and lived with a guy who worked for the city of a really big town. I called and made a complaint and no one was that interested to where they investigated/terminated what she had. I never wasted my time again.

They won't investigate. (sm) - Angie

I knew someone in CA who was cheating Disability. She was perfectly capable of working but faked repetitive stress injury. She had a Web site where she played all day chatting and playing games with her friends, which was very clear evidence that she had no RSI. They did absolutely nothing about it.

On the other side, there is a lot of prejudice and narrow mindedness when it comes to people on any type of government aid. Just because as person can perform a particular sport does not mean they are not disabled. People on Disability do not get free health care and food. They pay for Medicare and food stamps are an entirely different thing. The best way to get free food and medical care is to simply not use birth control and get pregnant, then you are supported for life.

Also many disabled can work part time to supplement their disability. When there are no accommodations for their particular disability, they cannot work full time for example someone with a back injury cannot work a job where they have to stand all day.

Angie, do not know how it is where you live - but in my state now more babies

does not mean more money as in years ago and I surely would never want to live on what you have coming in on welfare. I could not live off what welfare would give me, not in the least.

Are you getting any kind of assistance like food stamps, - or Medicaid for your kids

[ In Reply To ..]
If so, you might be able to go that route. I know in my state, if a mother is getting government assistance because of a lack of child support, that unit will go after the father like the hounds of hell.

Like others have said, though, call your local social security office and explain the situation to them and ask for their guidance.

Well on top of the fact that he probably isn't "disabled" the child support court in my state determined that because he's on disability he can't afford to pay child support. The $121 Soc sec gives my child as a dependent of a parent who's disabled will be all I'll ever receive. It's so crazy!!

I know this probably does not ease your mind - but only wished I could have gotten

$121 a month or however that is paid. The father of my child declared disabled one time. They sent me a check for $60.00 for the month. He went back to work then and I never got 1 red cent the rest of the child's upbringing. Anything would be better than nothing like I wound up with.
