Social Security Disability Insurance

Posted: Jul 25, 2017

Seems I may be disabled according to grid guidelines (age, inability to use 2 limbs).  Watched the YT videos but am unable to find out the approximate time of when the medical examiner approves and the check arrives.  Am trying to save my home and believe bank will work with me if they knew my future held a reliable income.  I am unable to find a job in MT and have not had an income for 6 months. Running out of things to sell and am 2 months late on mtg.

Does anyone have any experience with this process?

Thanks!

I ended up going on SSDI after some surgery about 1-1/2 years ago, took about 6 months (I was 62 at the time) but they do not pay the first 5 months in back pay as they used to - you have to be off work those 5 months and you will not be paid for them. I think it was approved for me in about 6 months and received my first check in 7 months, not an easy process to wait through. I was told that very few people are approved on the first attempt so I would not hold your breath.

Thank you for responding. I have 2 rings left, guess I had better start promoting their sale. I am terrified.

My story: I dropped out of medical care after 2 exploratory laps and sigmoidectomy after 3 bouts of debilitating diverticulitis with tentative diagnosis of MCTD, systemic sclerosis, muscular dystrophy in 1999 right before my divorce. I had to work immediately (Medquist)and really did not want to know since I was functional albeit required sleep of 12 hours a day after strenuous activity (cleaning).

Tore my rotator cuff right off the shoulder of my dominant hand while walking my dog a year ago. I look like I lost a fight and have calluses from walking with a stick on right hand. Turned keyboard sideways and rested on my L elbow which now is hemorrhaging and bruised after a year of holding up my upper body.

Sounds unbelievable but I literally slept and worked, with bursts of energy, grocery shopped. Working at home made this possible.

Doctor seems to realize how dire my situation is along with my medical records at one of the more renowned facilities in the world. Breast cancer is also listed.

When I said to him: "I understand to get approved, one must repeat this process." and he said, "oh really, who told you that?" YT video attorneys speaking on subject was my response. I have no safety net and would not be able to live in my car, it is not an option.

Age 59-62 allows a person to be placed into Grid Rules. Too old to hire, too old to train, long work history/38 years in my case/ in same field." Grid Rules are what I am counting on. I have paid into SS 55,000, matched by employer takes it to 97,000. This fund should hopefully provide me with a few years of income until I retire. $1,600 is not much but it would be enough for me.

I filed on 6/5. My inability to work began on 2/28.

If you have a moment, could you tell me if the six months was following your application or following your established last day of work?

Thanks.

I was unable to work in November, filed in January and my date they considered me disabled was November, but I did not get a check until June, which was for the month of May. I did, however, get approved on my first try but I was told by others that it was probably because I was at retirement age.

Ok, I found out last week that a friend of mine is collecting survivor benefits from 2 dead husbands at the same time.  Has anybody else heard of that?  I have a call in to social security to find out.  I am hoping that if that's the case I can start collecting on my late husband at 60 and then switch to my ex-husband's retirement when I'm 62 and keep working part time and collect from both of them.  It says you collect 50% of the ex-spouse's retirement be ...

Are We Going To Keep Social Security Or Abandon It?Sep 22, 2012
Social Security is a progressive entitlement program created by Republicans and Democrats working together. Those conservatives ideologically opposed have always tried to get rid of it, but voters wouldn't let them because it has always served its purpose of protecting us from the possibility of destitution when we're too old to work.  Now their tactic of destroying it by delaying necessary adjustments has successfully brought Social Security to the point of failure. Debt Commission Report Targets Social Security And MedicareNov 11, 2010
