Did you guys see the video on GMA this morning with 8yo girls

What was your take on it?

GMA today - sm

Yes I saw it and I thought it was way too risque for 8 YO girls. Beyonce dancing that way is one thing, but a little girl is quite another. Not to mention their outfits...puhleeze! No way would my daughter have done something like that at 8...I'd still be shocked to see her doing it now and she's almost 20!
I feel the same way. - sm

I couldn't help thinking to myself that this world is full of perverts out there. These parents just handed them up to the world of perverts on a silver platter.
I think these girls are very talented dancers. However, no matter if one thinks it is "just dancing" or not, the parents should have thought of who would be watching them. So many people commented that those who are opposed to it are just viewing the children in adult terms and are the ones who are sick for even thinking that way. In my opinion, the ones who are sick and depraved, the pedophiles and molesters, aren't going to be the ones opposing this. They love every minute of it. These parents just gave them a reason to drool, or worse, over their precious daughters. That is SO wrong.
I really find the outfits more offensive... - Kendra

the dancing, but all in all, I think the worst part is the song that they were dancing to. Go to any cheerleading competition and you will see the same aged girls doing the same kind of dancing, just in different outfits. I really think that this is a non-controversy. Must have been a slow news day.
That could be why there are so many freaks out there - sm

Just because the level of decorum has really bottomed out over the years, it doesn't mean that allowing girls this young to perform like this is safe for them. There are just too many freaks and perverts in the world. I just cringe at the thought of what the parents exposed these kids to. The fact that people think it is a noncontroversy is part of the reason we CAN go to any cheerleading competition and see the same thing. It's also part of the reason there's a controversy now over the Miss USA photos. Everybody has to outdo the last "WOW factor" to get noticed. Where will the "WOW factor" end up if we don't speak out against it?
I really don't think that it is that unsafe... - Kendra

or even any different that 20 years ago. when I was 10, we danced this way in cheerleading and I am 31. These are children who are involved in dance and kept busy, which is really a whole lot safer than many children whose parents let them run wild and don't have them involved in anything. You can bet that all of their practices are supervised by adults and to be in that level of competition, they must have involved parents. Again, I think that it must have been a slow news day and I think that comparing these children dancing to the Miss USA photos is silly. They are hardly the same thing.
If you think it's silly, then you missed the point. - sm

There wasn't really a comparison between the Miss USA photos and these girls. The correlation between the 2 was the shock factor. Our society has become so desensitized that it takes more extreme measures to capture attention and get noticed. A good indication of this was your own comment. You said you danced "this way" in cheerleading 20 years ago. Notice how it isn't the dancing anymore that captures attention? Now they have to have little girls dancing "this way" in lingerie-type outfits to get noticed. The same with Miss USA. Ratings for the show have been dropping as people are losing interest, and now they have these racy photos again to draw attention to the competition.
My point in bringing out the Miss USA photos in conjunction with these young dancers is wondering what they will have to do next to get attention once people start agreeing that what the choreographer did with these girls is acceptable just to win a competition. Like you said, it's no different dancing than 20 years ago. If society is desensitized to what they are wearing, the next step to get noticed will be a doozy. But then again, those who are already desensitized aren't going to notice a big change.
I didn't miss the point--I thought it was silly... - Kendra

I still do. Clearly, this all should have stopped with Elvis and his evil hip thrusts!
And to think Elvis was once considered risque. - sm

Then it was acceptable. Then there was Madonna. Then Marilyn Manson. It's always pushing the envelope 1 level more for shock value. Like I said....what's next in 10 years for 7-year-old girls to get enough attention to win competitions since lingerie-type outfits won't be enough anymore.

The outfits were really inappropriate which is a shame because they did an incredible job. Same moves, different outfits, would have made a world of difference IMO. Being just a mom, the outfits caught my attention by they were really well trained and in sync on just about every move. It really is too bad they chose that costume.

Advice To The GirlsNov 03, 2009Don't imagine you can change a man - unless he's in diapers.
What do you do if you boyfriend walks out? You shut the door.
If they put a man on the moon - they should be able to put them all up there.
Go for the younger man - you might as well, they never mature anyway.
Men are all the same - they just have different faces so we can tell them apart.
Best way to get a man to do something is to suggest he is too old for it.
Love is blind, but marriage is a real eye-opener.

Need Some Advice Regarding Mean Little Girls!Nov 02, 2010I have a 10yo daughter and her best friend is a little snotty girl that I'm not all that fond of, but they've known each other since kindergarten and the friendship has stuck. Basically, this little girl is one of those kids that I refer to as "Eddie Haskell." She sucks up to me, hugging me, and stuff, but then away from the adults, she can be really snotty. She is the youngest and only girl in her family and she is used to things going her way and so when my dau ...
Golden GirlsAug 02, 2014Okay, so like so many others, VR is going to destroy my financial future. Thankfully, I can take early retirement soon, though that wouldn't have been my first choice. But...here's what I wonder. Just like the Golden Girls (Rue McLanahan, Bea Arthur, Betty White) pooled their resources, why can't some of US do that? I mean, it would be a sacrifice for sure (I enjoy living alone)...but wouldn't it be wise? I have a lovely home but live in a rural ...

From The Woman Who Had The 2 Girls VisitOct 20, 2013I was reading the post on the Gab Board about the person asking how to get trust back in her partner. I was amazed to see that a person on here was guessing about "the one with the 2 girls for summer." Were you not ever told not to assume things? This is the person with the 2 girls for the summer, so you put it. The person writing about the trust issue is not me. I have no trust issues with anyone, certainly not my husband.

What's Your Morning MO?Feb 23, 2010I'm just curious about how many of us working at home have the same routine.
I get up in the morning and immediately heat up bottled water for coffee (I use a French press which makes a really perfect cup of coffee), then hop in the shower. After that, I make my coffee and drink it while taking about 10 minutes to put on my mineral makeup (so much faster than the other kind of makeup), eyeliner, lip liner and lip gloss. I then blow dry my hair, get dressed, make a second cup of ...

I Heard On The TV This MorningMar 01, 2011that union members in WI are passing around a flyer with names of businesses who supposedly contributed to Walker and calling for a boycott of those businesses. My problem with this is that employers are the ones who hire employees who pay taxes who fund unions. Isn't that kinda like shooting themselves in the foot? Plus, do teachers not realize that some of the businesses they want to boycott may employ a parent of one of their students...but they are doing all this for t ...
