here's my problem with

Posted: Jan 14, 2014

for example, we have people today posting on the MM board that they cherry pick and that if we were smart, we'd do it to.  We have people who post that if I get my feelings hurt by something posted on these forums, it's because I'm too sensitive (certainly not because what they said is too harsh, oh no!).  Bet you anything these people claim to be Christian.  It's okay though because they believe.  They got their get out of jail free card.  They're going to heaven.  That's the thing I've never understood about Christianity.  It's like you can do whatever you want, and it's okay because you're a believer.

;

Hey, a lot of Christians - turn me off too, AND

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't claim to be a Christian (even have a bumper sticker in a drawer somewhere that says, "I love Jesus; it's his followers I can't stand"), but I think you should expect a lot of "dislikes" because there is no logical connection between these behaviors you don't like and assuming they are people who claim to be Christian. It's not only "believers" who think they can do whatever they want.

maybe not but this is America - where the majority of people

[ In Reply To ..]
are Christian or claim to be. And I've been pushed around by them all my life.

Yes, very turned off and disgusted by those who claim - to be such good Christians, but SM

[ In Reply To ..]
in public, but then have some of the dirtiest behavior in private. Local TV personality claims to be such a good Christian on her facebook page but has affairs with married men and dramatic attention-getting suicide attempts. Another I used to work with was the nastiest, hateful gossip, always had something bad to say about someone but she's a board member of her church.

Yeah, those kind of Christians I have no time at all for.

Wish I could give your post more than 1 like..... - nana

[ In Reply To ..]
I would give you 10 or more because you are absolutely right. I was born and raised a Catholic, went through Catholic school and even the nuns were hipocrits. This will give my age away but here goes.

The day after Martin Luther King was killed I went to school and a lot of the kids were crying. I had no idea who Martin Luther King was but someone was gunned down who had a wife and small kids. That was all I knew about him at the time. The nun asked me why I was crying and I told her why. She grabbed my arm and started shaking it and said "you don't cry for those people." I had no idea what she meant at the time because I was only about 7-8 but that always bothered me. This was a nun who taught religion to us everyday and taught us to love everyone, we are all God's children, etc.

I don't go to church because I am not a hipocrit. I have a spiritual relationship with God and Jesus and I do not have to go to church where so much sin takes place. Molesting of little boys and girls, alcoholic priests, racist nuns and church members who praise God and while they are walking down the church steps you can hear them gossiping about everyone that was in church that day.
Yes, nana, your post deserves several likes as well. - sad but true about so many people. nm

Christianity - Dinosaur

[ In Reply To ..]
I sent you an email. Have a wonderful day.

christianity - allie

[ In Reply To ..]
A lot of people claim they are Christian. But that doesn't mean they are so. It even says in the Bible, in Matthew I believe, that not everyone who says Lord, Lord, will be acknowledged. God knows who the hypocrits are. I recently saw a post on facebook showing some surprised looking guy and the caption was "Not going to church because there are hypocrits is like not going to the gym because there are fat people.

That being said, I'm a member of a small church. The people there are wonderful. We have 1 or 2 people who have cancer or other serious illnesses and people from the congregation are always ready to help out, give an encouraging word, etc. in the 4 years I have been a member I haven't heard a mean word or gossiping. Are there hypocrits there? Possibly. We are all human and make mistakes even Christians.
Those on the MModal board who advocate that kind of behavior are just showing that they are not Christian nor do they have any idea what being a Christian means. I feel sorry for them because those women have such an off centered outlook on life.

May we all learn about God and follow him and love him as He does us.

The negative posters never said they WERE Christians - s/m

[ In Reply To ..]
How can anyone bash Christianity by reading negative posts from complete strangers who have not even mentioned religion?
That's offensive - God forbid
[ In Reply To ..]
What would happen if it was assumed negative posts were from Asian or black people? That's how ridiculous this is. Christians are not perfect. That's the whole basis of the faith. We are loved and saved by God's grace IN SPITE of our failures. And yes . . the Bible (Christ) promises eternal life to those who accept and believe he is Lord. Doesn't mean we have to be perfect. Who is?
Suggest looking up "Faith without works is dead" - in James.

Problem is... - see msg pls
[ In Reply To ..]
They keep saying they are striving, but keep using it as an excuse to do bad things. "Oh, I'm striving to be better," [but I'll go be horrible all the time and not worry about it, because I'll be forgiven, because I go to church and pray to the Lord and read the Bible.]

Ahem.
Not the OP, but... - see msg
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the point the OP is making that it's hard to trust Christians when they preach, preach, then do horrible things.

I agree with her philosphy as such, but I don't think she should have even brought up the negative posters on other boards. I think she's like me--hard to know who you can trust, and since there are so many hypocrits in the Christian faith, who knows.

So, we need to take that part of her post out of the equation.

A Story (or 2) - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
First, I want to say that those who are cruel on the MM board or wherever, are not necessarily the same people who are claiming to be Christians here, so I wouldn't make a blanket statement like that.

HOWEVER, I agree that a lot of these Christian types are indeed hypocrits and I don't trust a one of them until I know them well. In my experience, there are more hypocrits in that type of church, than not.

I know someone who got "vested" in her Church, and is what I call a community do-gooder, but all the while at home is the most nasty person to her little boy. I don't mean punishment/discipline type stuff which is open for debate, I mean just MEAN to that poor kid. She's always hollering at the poor kid. He's 4 years old, and instead of asking him not to do something, she just screams at him off the bat. She's been hollering at this kid since he was able to walk. Can we spell a big psychiatric problem waiting to happen? He's already showing signs of trouble--keeps setting little fires, bangs his head on the wall, number 2's in his pants, etc. Meanwhile, this kid knows he's all alone in the world because he sees his mother being so sweet and wonderful "out there" in the Church. Dad's a wimp, so we can forget him trying to protect the kid.

Another story: My husband is in retail management and worked with a fellow that he suspected was stealing from the store. Mind you, this fellow was Mr. Religion, Mr. Hotshot Holy at his church. My husband's suspicions turned out to be correct when he caught him red-handed and on tape. Of course, this guy did the Jimmy Swaggart deal that he had sinned, "forgive me lord," the whole 9 yards.

Christians, take a look at YOURSELF instead of judging other people for a change. I like the OPs "get out of jail free card" because you go to church.

I grant you we all make mistakes, but some of this stuff is just over the top: "If I ask for forgiveness and go to church Sunday, it will be okay; heck, I can do it again if I want and it will be okay as long as I pray and go to church." "I'll go visit the sick in the hospital so everyone thinks I'm wonderful, then go home and scream at my family."

Yikes.

oh my post was in no way directed - to those here on the Faith Board

[ In Reply To ..]
no absolutely not. Please don't take it that way. I was only saying that most Americans do claim to be Christian and so there is a high likelihood that nasty people on the MM board do as well.

I understand now - Hard to know, though

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I see what you're saying. Really hard to know, though.

I do actually know one genuinely sincere very Christian family. They are truly wonderful people and know the definition of behaving in a Christian manner. I have chosen to hang with them, but I do not get involved with anyone from their church.

Bless all the TRUE sincere people in the world, whether they go to church or not.

you're assuming - - you do not know

[ In Reply To ..]

It's not just the Christian faith - SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Every faith has it beliefs and rules the followers should obey. Are you saying that people of other faiths are perfect, and Christians are the only ones to fail? That's ridiculous. You are assuming a lot in your post.

Not the OP - But...

[ In Reply To ..]
I think the point here is that Christians seem to do an awful lot of preaching and judging others, then don't follow their own rules. It just gets old. "Love all of mankind," then go home and raise holy heck with their own family. The point also is that, as a couple of people pointed out---do horrible things during the week, but it's okay, because Sunday you are going to church.

It's the hypocrisy thing, not that we all "fail" as humans. Of course we all fail (Christian or not), but to keep failing then justify it all because you go to church is just plain hypocrisy.

I think the point is - s/m

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't understand why the OP linked negative comments with the whole issue of Christianity. If the people who posted to her told her they were of the Christian faith, I would understand. Not all Christians are bad, and bad people are of every walk of life, every faith, and every color.

What proof do you have - That they are Christians?

[ In Reply To ..]
With no proof, this is simply slander. (A sin, by the way.)

What proof ....they are Christians? I will tell - kshel

[ In Reply To ..]
you. Christians have faith and so proof is in each person's heart, not on a piece of paper. Like I heard someone say, how do you know something is real if you have never seen it? Do you love your husband/wife/child/et al? Prove it, I think I just did that.

Have A Cat ProblemSep 10, 2010
I recently gave away the last of my momma cat's five kittens and she is now engorged and leaking milk.  The babies didn't go all at once--one one week, two the next, etc.--but she is still making milk.  She looks uncomfortable but I don't think she has a fever.  Will this resolve itself or will she need medical attention (besides the spaying coming up soon!)?  Thanks for any suggestions. ...

I have a dilemma.  I brought in a woman to rent my room on Saturday for 200.00 without a lease.  Within 3 hours, the entire house reeked of very strong cinnamon incense.  Fine...then comes Sunday, she begins by making coffee in my coffee pot and cleaning my kitchen counters, her first load of clothes goes in at at 9 AM and she washes clothes until late that night.  She puts her dish towels in place and takes it upon herself to wash mine.  She then finds a Sun-T ...

Am I Expecting Too Much...What Is My Problem?Feb 12, 2011
I feel myself sliding into a horrible depression and I honestly don't know why.  I've never been depressed before in my life except for fleeting circumstantial incidents that resolved within a few days but I just can't shake this. The Real ProblemSep 07, 2011
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man ...

Problem With NeighborJun 21, 2014

We are not supposed to smoke inside the unit, and when we moved in, the property manager said that eve ...

We took her to the vet who said that he didn't think she had a UTI but that she might have/have had an infection of the vulva (blank stare from my husband at that point). The vet gave us meds which we used without really knowing if she did ha ...
