The Real Problem

Posted: Sep 7, 2011

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 1:20-32 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. The Lord is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God. Psalms 9:15-17 ;

I don't necessarily agree with all thier religious beliefs (my Aunt is a member of this church), but they put together articles on current events and how they have been foretold by the Bible - it's really interesting and really makes you think. From Oct 26, 2006

"There was an irresponsible charge that I was making fun of Michael J. Fox and that I said Michael J. Fox was faking it. Neither of those two charges have any foundation of truth whatsoever, and yet they continue to be leveled, and they continue to be distorted and amplified upon. I'll explain why in the opening monologue. But I just want to tell you as I told the woman from Maryland who called yesterday and said she had heard that I was making fun of Fox and that she had seen video of me imitating his gyrations and movements in the ad that he had done for Claire McCaskill in Missouri, and, by the way, many cable outlets have taken that snippet of video from the Dittocam and are speeding it up, I am told. Now, I haven't seen it, but I've been inundated with e-mails from people who say, "Rush, it's unconscionable what they're doing. They're speeding it up to make it look even more exaggerated, to fulfill their claim that you are making fun of Fox."

I'll take you through this step by step. Here's what happened. I'm reading the Drudge Report after the show had started, I'm not even sure when, and there's the link to the Michael J. Fox video and the word controversy attached to it, so I click on it and I watch it. Now, I've seen Michael J. Fox recently on television in a number of roles on the show Boston Legal, which I love, and I've seen Michael J. Fox interviewed, and I've never seen him the way I saw him in this ad, never. I've seen Parkinson's disease sufferers. I know a couple. And I've never seen this. I just had never seen it. I run a radio show here, and I have a camera right there. I'm pointing to it. Subscribers to my website can watch the program and hundreds of thousands do each and every day. So in the process of describing for them -- after all, I am a reporter, a-hem -- in the process of describing what I was watching, it is a shock, as you've all seen it, it's shocking, it's unbelievable.

You don't see this kind of thing every day, particularly in a television commercial, not even a public service announcement for a cause that might be involved when you see something like this. You couple that with the fact that I'd never seen Michael J. Fox in this way, I began to try to describe for viewers of my Dittocam what I had seen. Now, anybody who listens to me describe what I saw would know this. It is a purposeful attempt to smear. I mean, I'm not complaining because that's the league that we all play in here, folks, and I don't whine or moan, but I am going to correct the record here because this is something that's now had a life span of two days that I'm making fun of Michael J. Fox. I would no more do that than I would make fun of anybody who suffers a disease about which and over which -- I wouldn't make fun of anybody with a disease. That is beneath me and there's no evidence and history of it on this program at all or in my behavior as a human being. And yet it's out there, and the people who culled that video could easily listen to the audio that accompanied and would easily know and do know precisely what I was doing, and yet it is being used for the express purpose of distorting and smearing for an audience that doesn't listen to this program."

I SAW THE VIDEO of him when he was on the air shaking and waving his arms and hands, moving around in his chair making fun of Michael J. Fox. I have news for Mr. Limbaugh. My father died of Parkinson's disease, and it is anything but funny. The backs of my dad's slippers were worn completely through from the movement of his body as he sat in bed at the nursing home. The last memories of my dad are seeing him like that. I remember the time it took three people to get him out of the car because of complete rigidity before he started on medication. Rush Limbaugh disgusts me. When I visit my relative and he is on the air the radio is turned off upon my arrival to the house. My family knows how I feel. I also heard him make fun of Hiliary Clinton's legs.

I don't know if Limbaugh made fun of MJFox or not but if he did, shame on him. My ex-husband died of systemic scleroderma, he turned into stone and finally he wanted to die so he stopped eating. Yes his skin was like stone, and everything else deteriorated. Anyway, I like to listen to Rush Limbaugh but I am ashamed that if he made fun of MJFox then he needs to apologize profusely. But I think you might hate Rush Limbaugh for more reasons then MJF. If you're a flaming liberal then do you hate all Conservatives and Republicans? Do you not see that Obama is taking this country into the age of Socialism? Do you even know what socialism and communism is? Do you know who Karl Marx is? The liberals are not going to tell you about that stuff. I watched Obama when he made fun of "Us" the tea party, saying "They say I'm a Socialist!! Well let me mop up the mess Bush made with my Socialist Mop!! And everyone clapped. But he never denied that he was a socialist. None of them will. Hillary did admit she is s Progressive. I heard it with my own ears. I also heard and saw Lawrence Odonnel (MSNBC) admit that he was a Socialist and told his guests to finally admit it themselves. This country is in danger (not right away, but after obamacare sets in in 2012 cause the plan is not to scare us too soon). Oh ya, I saw the video of that too when Obama was telling his union buddies how he has to gradually introduce the "Single Payor Health Plan" so he doesnt freak out the nation.

I made no mention whatsoever of anyone else in my post. I was referring to his unexcusable behavior regarding Michael J. Fox, which I saw with my own eyes when the video was aired on TV. Did he apologize? Of course, like all "celebrities" apologize; when they know they crossed the line and know how disgusted people are with them. They apologize only to try to redeem themselves. Anyone who would exhibit such disgusting behavior needs to esperience the same debilitating condition they made fun of. Then and only then will they understand.

You heard enough when he made fun of Michael J Fox? Did you see and hear enough when Obama the annointed one called white people the "typical white person"? Or when he said in an interview that he is going to "necessarily" make electric prices skyrocket (which I can't afford working for this type of job) once he bankrupts those companies due to high tax burdens? Oh, and did you miss when Nancy Pelosi said Obama will not only be the leader, but will also be the ruler.? Oh ya, and did you see the video of Henry Kissinger saying that they are preparing Obama to be the leader of the One World Order? No you did not because you read liberal propaganda.

It's not your fault, you were taught like that, you believe Obama is trying to help the poor and even things out by taxing the rich. It sounds "good" when you first hear it, but it will destroy the economy of this country and we will be at the mercy of other countries like China, Russia, Iran. Obama is opening the door to making us weaker as a nation and turn this country into a Socialist country (bigger government), hatred for capitalism (profiters), the ones that provide jobs for people. cause we know obama aint providing jobs, that's for sure, he is taking away incentives for businesses when he starts mandating, regulating and taxing and once that finally happens the country will be bankrupt and we will all be living in fema camps or something.

"The familiar observation that the Bible is the best-selling book of all time obscures a more startling fact: the Bible is the best-selling book of the year, every year. Calculating how many Bibles are sold in the United States is a virtually impossible task, but a conservative estimate is that in 2005 Americans purchased some twenty-five million Bibles—twice as many as the most recent Harry Potter book. The amount spent annually on Bibles has been put at more than half a billion dollars.

In some ways, this should not be surprising. According to the Barna Group, an evangelical polling firm, forty-seven per cent of Americans read the Bible every week. But other research has found that ninety-one per cent of American households own at least one Bible—the average household owns four—which means that Bible publishers manage to sell twenty-five million copies a year of a book that almost everybody already has."

they have been dubbed "gibberish" in the sense that are not responsive to the political discussions within which you embed them. If you want to somehow attempt to relate religious citations with political commentary using posts where Biblical quotations predominate, I suggest you try doing so on the faith board, though I suspect the responses, perhaps more kind and "Christian" in tone, may not be any more receptive than they have been here. There you will have folks hone in on the scripture quotations and bypass the politics (and ultimatly get a bit "testy" if you are overly persistent in this regard), whereas here, all you provoke is resentment over your crusade to merge the two and legitimize that merger. We are a secular nation who is acutely tuned into any such attempts to homogenize our culture or theocratize our goverment institutions. Some of us oppose these notions just as strongly as I am sure you oppose any and all efforts to inject Sharia law into the US legal system. Hence, this pursuit of yours is a brick-wall dead-end for all concerned. Ain't. Gonna. Fly.

FYI, I have forwarded an email to similar effect (complete with specific citations, of course, of which there were plenty) to the moderators to elicit their opinion on your ongoing attempts to highjack this board and turn it into your own personal (bully) pulpit. As I told them, I have been posting here for a long time and have a very thick skin when it comes to flaming, rudeness, stupidity and the like, and have not once contacted the moderators for anything. Along with several others who have expressed the same sentiments, I simply believe you are abusing this forum.

There is a faith board. You already know this, since others have reminded you and you also have recently posted there, so why do you continue to do this after more than a few comments redirecting you to that forum have been posted? I'm gonna take a wild guess. Could it be that, aside from the fact that the faith board does not get as much daily input as this board does, maybe it's becuse that environment is not nearly as amenable to venting rage against and hatred toward our president, picking polarizing fights, name-calling, personal attacks and put-downs, pontificating, highjacking, serious lapses in logic and veracity, hisorical rewrites, and all those other lovely TP attributes which you so aptly personify?

Just for the record, I too read the Bible, along with the Quran and Hadith, which contains the Sunna, Bha'i Kitabs and Epistles, Tanakh, which includes the Torah, the teachings of Buddha across several disciplines with an emphasis on Zen, the Jaina Sutras, Confucian Canons, Hindu Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Mahabharata, Ramayana, Bhagavad Gita, Bardo Thodol (Tibetan Book of the Dead) and the Zoroastrian Zend Avesta. It's not as though I am out of touch with spirituality, organized religions or their historical and contemporary relationships to political and legal systems across ALL cultures. Though I have an infinite respect for the richly diverse ways in which the peoples of the earth have elaborated and synthesized various belief systems and applied them in countless unique forms and fashions, still I embody the predominating cultural values of my own SECULAR country, which BTW, has majority rule in place on this issue.
Bravo! Excellent, excellent post! Thank you. - nm

Obviously, you think striking nerves, getting under someone's skin, taunting and bullying is some sort of desirable attribute, worthy of broadcasting and bragging about, but you are mistaken about the content of my communication with the moderator (still batting 1000 in the wrong, wrong, wrong assumption division). Nobody said anything about being picked on. I just directed them to the straight-up religious postings, totally void of political content, along with the posts from others that suggested you move them where they belong and asked them to consider moving them to the faith board. Your posts speak for themselves. They need no help from me. Whatever they decide suits me just fine.

Simply put, you are abusing the political forum and need to be posting this stuff on over there. I'm not the only one who thinks so, as you very well know. FYI, I have every intention of following your posts if they do get moved there. You're not the only one who can quote religious text and I would welcome the opportunity to go a few rounds of tit-for-tat on that venue as well.

As a matter of fact, you and I have locked horns on the Offshore Concerns board, which you also know very well. This might be your first clue that you'll have to work much, much harder to get a rise out of me, since I never shy away from your vapid posts. Quite the contrary. Debunking your bunk is something I can do blindfolded with my hands tied behind my back. Specifically, on the Offshore forum, as I recall, I posted the other side of a story from Fox/Beck, et al, you were trying to take out of context and from which you were attempting to draw egregiously false conclusions. I managed to silence you with my final post, which effectively employed a healthy dose of irrefutable logic and fact, not the first time that's happened either. The K-Os have been delivered with the greatest of ease, and without a second thought, though I am sure over there in the parallel universe, your recall would be quite different.

PS: I am aware of what's at the top of the political forum. The free reign does not trump the general rules about where to post what. There is a reason faith is separated out from the others (especially politics), which I am sure is a bit over your head for you to be able to figure out all on your own. I just thought the moderator might be willing to help you out on this. Maybe yes, maybe no. We'll see.
Now, who's bragging? - hmmm

I don't remember ever patting myself on the back as hard as you have here.

I've been waiting for you or anyone else to quote from any religious text they choose. If there is so much wisdom to be found there, don't be greedy - share it.

I don't know the mechanics of how this forum works, but on others I have visited the moderators had the power to move threads to a different category if they saw fit.

As far the issue of offshoring, you didn't silence me. You just reminded me of an adage that I had forgotten:

I would like to point out to you that this, according to the notation at the top of the page, IS the Faith Board. I clicked on the Faith Board on the menu to the left, which you so eloquently pointed out would be the appropriate venue for such a discussion, and was brought to this thread. Perhaps it is time you brought out that GPS you got last Christmas.

I find it rather reprehensible that you feel the need to laud yourself over the other poster in such a verbose and condescending manner. In other words....Get off your high horse, sista!

You needn't bother yourself with responding to this thread as I won't be posting further on this thread.

Obviously, if it happened to you, too, there's a problem with the board.

Although I don't believe that politics and religion belong on the same board, it may be that even the most annoying poster on this board wound up here after clicking the faith board.

Now I understand why people question the political comments. They think they're at the faith board, and they probably clicked on the faith link but were misdirected to the politics board.

before it was moved here by the moderators. If you open the first entry, you will find a Bible quotation with no political content and if you follow the thread you can see Biblical quotes and other religious references being repeated. A nasty escalation of rhetoric took place as the post developed.

Numerous requests for the original poster to use the faith board from several different posters fell on deaf ears until the bitter end when the thread reached its final knock-down drag-out status. Bible quotations and religious references were used as personal attacks and insults. The OP continued to abuse the political forum and, in my opinion, the Bible as well.

Someone sent an email to the moderators. To their credit, they did not delete the exchange but opted to post it on the faith board where it should have been in the first place. You entered the fray in its terminal stages. If you had participated from beginning to end, you would better understand the frustration that brought it to this point and probably could realize the GPS comment is uncalled for. The condescension started long before this last post and was kept going by the OP.

It doesn't matter if you post a reply or not, but maybe you ought to get the full picture next time before going off on somebody like this. I apologize if you think this is too verbose. I just think further explanation might be helpful.

and has been tampered with over the years, especially in some of the latest versions, and this out of context without balance with other spiritual principles, good job as an accuser. Are you enjoying that fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, which we were commanded never to eat of. Sure, you can point a finger, but can you submit yourself and your own sins for judgment? The way to do that is to approach the Tree of Life.

Remember that by whatever standard you judge others, that is the standard you will be judged by also. There is also that verse about "Blessed are the merciful." and "neither do I condemn thee."

In your single focus on judgment of others, I have to say "Hmmmmm." In Jesus' words, you would be a modern-day "Viper."
