Direct primary care offers a market solution to doctor shortages.

Posted: Oct 12, 2016

physician, the doctor — not insurance companies or government regulators — sets his own rates. His patients pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to office visits and free in-office testing and procedures. And getting rid of the middleman cuts patient costs as much as 50 percent. Savage told Watchdog.org he adopted the DPC model after 12 years of traditional practice so he could focus on his patients instead of bureaucracy. “I wanted to work in a system that facilitated being a quality physician, instead of one in which you had to fight against the system to be a quality physician. Direct primary care allows me to do this,” he said. . . ;

This is a great start, but you will still have to pay - a "fine" (tax) for not having insurance.

This is a concierge concept. It will work until the govt - outlaws it if Hillary is elected

This guy will have at best three years

My brother is a teamster. They have their own dentists, doctors and their own facilities. I joined a doctors “group” in Augusta Maine that take no insurances, NONE, and they post prices of every service beforehand so you know what your dealing with. The savings from not having to file all of the bull crap paperwork exactly coded and not having to deal with multiple providers saves tens of thousands alone....anything government touches creates a mountain of “make work” tasks that are not needed and couple that with smothering regulations and you have hangers on employed who suck off the tax payer and enjoy wages and benefits that they would never reach in the private sector. It is not the governments responsibility to provide health care.

I know it's never going away.

The truth is, concierge care is a solution only for those who can afford it. - sm

And those are not the people who can't afford insurance.

And note, those hefty monthly fees do not cover outside testing, specialists you are referred to, or hospital admissions. You need to be independently wealthy or pay for other insurance on top of your concierge care.

I pay cash for services and can get up to 40% off. - The nay sayers don't realize govt

drives prices UP.

40% off a $100,000 hospital bill still leaves you owing $60,000. - nm

This is direct care, not major medical. Still, the reason - things cost so much is because of govt

being involved.
Guess you don't do transcription - all smiles

The cost of health insurance is first related to the cost of healthcare. Second it is related to the use of healthcare. Third, it is related to those who use healthcare but do not pay for it. Many of those who use healthcare can pay for it, they just choose not to pay for it. So you and I pay for it through higher premiums and higher costs.

I guess you don't transcribe cutsey phrases like, "ordered for completeness sake," or "because we didn't have access to the testing done (2 days ago at another facility), we repeated the MRI/MRA of the brain ($8000 worth of testing).

Or, I guess you have not typed the presurgical clearances wherein the patient first had an echocardiogram, then a cardiac cath with stents followed by removal of blood clot, followed by then several months later the initially intended surgery.

Aside from routine doctor visits, almost anything done through a hospital comes with a mortgage - that is it will take your mortgage payment to pay for the bill.

The rules of economics do not apply to the healthcare arena for some reason. The more the demand, the higher the cost.

Sounds good. Anything's better than the path we are on. - In a few years just a regular

doc visit is going to be unaffordable.

Federal Policy Has Worsened Primary Doctor Shortage.Apr 01, 2017

A CNN report summarizing the findings stated that “many [primary care physicians] said they are overwhelmed with their practices, not because they have too many patients, but because there’s too much red tape generated from insurance companies and government agencies.”[2] In response, one would have expected that policymakers, when assessing the merits of a proposed healthcare ...

Article On Buying Primary Care Doctors Jul 26, 2015
Here's an article about profiteers trying to buy doctor groups to "get control of their patient base and leverage those patients." I believe the model was transcription companies -- the idea was to round them up (Rodeer, anyone?) get control of the hospital accounts and leverage the MTs into accepting less and less.  It worked on the little women so why not expand to credentialed men?     ...

How Federal Funds Helped Mitt Reverse Olympic Revenue ShortagesJul 21, 2012
The Romney camp has attempted to steer focus away from his term as governor, and is now chafing under the yoke of his business credentials of late.  Maybe they would be more comfortable with national scrutiny of his involvement in the 2002 Winter Olympics since candidate often points to that experience as a fundamental resume qualification for running the country “like a business.” After overcoming initial Mormon and non-Mormon local opposition based on perceptions of cronyism ...

Primary Mission Not Accomplished For GOP.Nov 07, 2012

when they admitted on page 2 of the linked NYT article it wasn't likely the IRS "targeting" of conservative groups was politically motivated.  Senator Roy Blunt R-MO, up for re-election in 2016, and Rep Charles Boustany R-LA were wise to wait until an extended holiday slow-news cycle to make the admission.  That way, it might get drowned out by all the celebratory fireworks and gunshots, both intentional and accidental, that produced fatalities and injuries, some of whom were ...

A Possible Unemployment Solution?Nov 04, 2010
