Just last summer, Obama praised his administration’s handling of Syria's chemical weapons saying that “because we seized a diplomatic option, backed by our threat of force, nations came together and we accomplished far more than military strikes ever could have—all of Syria’s declared chemical weapons were successfully removed.” Less than a year later, Syrian President Bashar Assad is back to gassing his own people. So what about the chemical weapons? I thought Obama said they got rid of them? I thought he trusted Russia to disarm Assad. ;

Well first of all I don't think anyone - "trusts" Putin at all, but
[ In Reply To ..]the UN inspectors assured Obama that all of them had been dealt with. Secondly, what makes anyone so sure that they didn't and more were made and/or delivered to Assad by another country, like Iran, Russia, or other such place? The fact that Obama wanted to not strike against them was probably mainly because WE AMERICANS had been sick of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for years and did not want to put more of our young men at risk in the Middle East for another unwinnable war.
As far as Trump doing what he did, I agree that an American strike was a long time coming, but he did not get approval from Congress, which he had warned Obama against doing just a couple of years ago, and he also warned that striking Syria was a no-win situation because there was "nothing in it for us." All of the time the people in Aleppo were begging for our help, he did not find that to be enough to make Obama go after them, so why now? My feeling is because his approval rating is in the dirt and he is losing ground with his republican friends in the government and wanted to appear strong. It is kind of hard not to do SOMETHING: after you have blathered for months about knowing all about ISIS and that he would put a stop to what is going on in the Middle East right away and once and for all, yada, yada, yada. I don't condemn what he did last night. I just hope that we do not suffer bigger repercussions because of it.
