Hospitals should NOT hire doctors

Posted: Sep 18, 2016

At least, not if they are going to be interacting with patients or dictating reports. I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is ridiculous.

I'm not xenophobic or racist but it just plain puts patient care in jeopardy when they can't communicate effectively with patients or speak clearly enough for MTs to understand them. I sit here and scream obscenities at my computer while these people are ruining my line counts because if I don't then I'll probably lose my temper and flip the desk over.

;

Seriously, it took almost 40 minutes - to do a 3-minute note.

People who speak this badly should not be allowed to dictate at all.

I have said this myself a thousand times, if they cant speak English - clearly, then dont touch me. SM

It is miserable enough being in the ER or urgent care or wherever, being sick or in any kind of severe pain or distress, and going through sheer HAIL to try to understand the care provider. THAT is where misunderstandings occur; if the provider stumbles and cant pronounce things properly, patient in pain cant understand and takes wrong dosage of medication, or takes with other things, or any other kind of mistakes could be made.

Patients in pain are not reasonable and sane creatures, myself at the front of the line.

I'm also one of those cursing and critizing what I hear in my headset, as well as cursing the provider in the ER that I cant understand and asking a nurse or somebody to get me someone who speaks English, after wihch that person looks at me like I just kicked a puppy, and then I curse them out as well.

Lawdy. What a cluster bunk. All because people cant speak English properly.

Makes me cranky.

And if they're going to hire them anyway - then they could at least use a translator

[ In Reply To ..]
They have translators for patients who can't speak English, so why don't they use them for the providers who can't speak English either?

I mean, I'd prefer they not hire them at all if you can't understand what the heck they're saying, but at least they could mitigate the damage if they insist on hiring them anyway.

Totally agree 100% - LMT

I have heard some horrible doctors in my days of doing this job and totally agree. If hospitals are really concerned about patient care like they claim to be they would do something to fix this problem. Translators are the way to go and if a doctor is difficult to understand in person, they are not allowed to dictate. Simple as that.

that had the most horrible dictators imaginable. Their solution was to hire "professional dictators." OMG! They were not even CLOSE to English as a first language and I often wished the original horrible dictators would do their own again! What made these "professional dictators" even worse was they had no clue what they were reading, which made it even worse! Careful what we wish for, right?

maybe since all our MT positions... - LMT

are being outsourced...we could become "professional dictators"...hmmm i see a new career option here.. At least we know what we are doing and could read it right.

A Question About Smokers And Hospitals.......Jul 21, 2010
My sister and I were discussing what would happen if our mom, who is a major, MAJOR smoker, ever had to go to the hospital.  (She rarely even sees a doctor).  She's getting on in years, has some growing health issues, and avoids going to a doctor because she doesn't want to go to a hospital.  The reason?  Because she won't be able to smoke!  (For this reason she won't go anywhere anymore... restaurants, plane trips, etc., because she won't h ...

Medicare Fines Hospitals For Too Many Re-Admitted PatientsOct 01, 2012
Is this how Obamacare is going to "pay for itself?" What about those complications that are not the hospital's fault? How are they going to rate which complications are due to hospital care and which are due to patient noncompliance? I would think this is a really tough decision to make. _______________ WASHINGTONIf you or an elderly relative have been hospitalized recently and noticed extra attention when the time came to be discharged, there's more to it than good customer service. ...

Small Towns Watch Aging Hospitals ShutterMar 05, 2016
Saw this on PBS last night. My heart breaks for these small towns. In a lot of them, the hospital was the anchor. People have lost jobs, stores have closed, seniors have to travel hundreds of miles for health care. What has become of this country? More than 50 rural hospitals have closed since 2010 (during Okingme's reign) as well as many more community hospitals throughout the land. ...

Doctors Trying To Talk Down To Me, Really?Mar 19, 2013
I am wondering if others run into what I have or is this just me who seems to have a bull's eye on them and others think they can say what they want and I will not respond. Anyway, this morning I went back to the ophthalmologist, had cataract surgery about 3 weeks ago. I noticed the first visit the day after surgery he seemed a little put off like he might have been a little huffy but nothing else happened that time. This morning we were talking and I was telling him about not being able to ...

Doctors VisitAug 13, 2013
My grandson had been complaining of abdominal pain for a few weeks on and off so my grandson made an appointment yesterday with a GI doc, well known in my town. We went to the appointment, I paid the $25.00 copay and it was the shortest doctors appointment I have ever been to. He walked in asked what the problem was and then said well lets schedule some tests to see what is going on. He scheduled both an EGD and colonoscopy on an 18 year old. Never touched my grandson, never felt his belly. ...

Doctors Rally Against ObamaCare In D.C.Mar 21, 2010

Doctors Will Be Leaving The Profession In DrovesJul 14, 2012
Doctors are threatening to leave healthcare due to Obamacare. Medicine is going to a cookie-cutter modality and PAs and NPs will be in the near future. Face it our healthcare is in the pitts because doctors are not allowed to treat anymore. The government will be your only healthcare. I am opting out of all this even if I have to pay a penalty. Doctors Required To Ask Patients About Their Sexual HistoryOct 15, 2013
