Noted conservative Andrew Sullivan (former editor of New Republic no less) essays on the purposeful distortion of President Obama's many accomplishments in his first term. Good read for those honestly interested in a thoughtful, unbiased review.

Andrew Sullivan - "unabashed supporter" since 2007

[ In Reply To ..]
Very biased article. Author immediately states he is an "unabashed supporter since 2007" of Obama. Proceeds to use very different adjectives when describing libs/conservative. Not hard to see what motivated this writer.

An article titled "Why are Obama's critics so dumb?" is unbiased?

I'm wondering what your reaction would be to an article on a national news magazine titled "Why are Obama's supporters so dumb?" Would you consider it unbiased?

Doesn't include calling him a socialist or marxist - so MUST be biased

Did not even bother to read this whole article due to the way it started out. Pretty clear this was meant as an insult to many, not informative in any way. If Sullivan is such a word-smith, seems he could have written a much better article and gotten his point across without dropping to the level he did.

Why do you think it's unbiased? - Curious

Just would like your insight as to why you think this is unbiased. You said he is a former editor of New Republic. What does "no less" mean regarding that statement? The New Republic is a democratic publication, as is Newsweek. Therefore his article is not unbiased. Also, when the article is calling people he doesn't agree with "dumb", that also is not unbiased.

So I'm curious as to why you believe this article is unbiased.

How impervious they are to other viewpoints! It is almost like any opinion other than what has been spoonfed to them by rush l and sannity and the handicap man is an assault they must defend against. Are the convictions so shallow they shrink from examining them? Former symphathizer I was for the dim, thinking they were captives of fear and low IQ. It finally dawned on me they were willing collaborators, not worthy of my compassion.

I didn't say anything about Fox - - sm

I asked why the poster thought it was unbiased. What is so hard about answering the question. This has nothing to do with Fox news.

Pretty simple question. Since the writer is a democrat and starts off by calling people dumb (those not in his party of course) I wanted to know why the poster thought the article was unbiased. Did she even read it? If she did she surely must have an opinion about it. Saying this guy is giving an unbiased opinion is as bad as saying Bill O'Reilly is giving an unbiased opinion.

I know you find it easier to attack others, but you really have no idea who I am and what I watch or don't watch. So what is so hard about answering the question.

Firstly, aNDREW is a life-long repub. So any conclusions drawn in your post are invalidated by that big boner from the beginning. A critique by a member of your opposing party is the definition of unbiased, I would say. Calling people dumb - most probably the magazine used that cover line as an attention grabber. It pales in comparison to constant slam of calling Mr. Obama the food stamp president. Lastly Fox was not mentioned but presence has to be assumed when posters use the Frank Lunz approved buzz words that cause conservatives' stingers to start atinglin.
One should not assume -as you know what they say. - sm

Yeah, Donald Trump says he's a life long republican too, so what's your point. People say they are of other parties all the time. Sorry to blow that little theory into the water.

#2. I don't know which party you are referring to as my opposing party because I belong to no party. I oppose ALL parties. So, there goes your assumption down the drain.

#3. I never heard Mr. Obama called the food stamp president. I've heard pretty much all the insults thrown at him and a lot of them unjustified. Never heard the food stamp president though. Are you sure you didn't just make that up? Not saying your lying of course, but I've never heard it.

#4. No, I did not mention Fox. It has nothing to do with my post. Asking why the poster thought his article was unbiased has nothing to do with Fox, MSNBC, CNN, Time Magazine or the Foreign Press for that matter. It was a personal question that I wanted to know why the poster thought it was unbiased. Not everything needs to be turned into a war about a news station. P.S. Don't watch Fox. Can't stand that channel. They are so far biased it's not funny. I don't like it so I don't watch it. So, there blows that assumption right into the water and it shows how true the saying is when you assume things.

#5. Don't watch Frank Luntz. Don't even know what channel his show is on. Never heard him. Maybe have heard his name, but was so long ago I don't remember where or when. So once again, there blows another hole into your assumptions.

People really should not ASSume things about posters they don't know. Truth be I probably agree with your political viewpoints, but you were too eager to ASSume and attack we'll never know.
Not the OP, but since the writer states - read this
[ In Reply To ..]
"I write this as an unabashed supporter of Obama from early 2007 on. I did so not as a liberal, but as a conservative-minded independent...," it could lead someone who takes the writer's word for it to believe that they're a conservative-minded independent and, therefore, not loyal to a particular party and/or unbiased.

The author also writes "If I sound biased, that’s because I am. Biased toward the actual record, not the spin; biased toward a president who has conducted himself with grace and calm under incredible pressure, who has had to manage crises not seen since the Second World War and the Depression, and who as yet has not had a single significant scandal to his name." Again, if someone takes him at his word, he is "biased" only to the facts, draws his conclusions from such, and, therefore, is unbiased.

Also, I did not read the article via Newsweek, and in the on-line version I read, it does not call people "dumb" (in those words). This is most likely because the author had no say-so in the headline of "Why Are Obama's Critics So Dumb?" Instead, this was Newsweek's call, and it was Newsweek's job to come up with a front-page title that would sell the most copies and/or cause the most stir. This brings me to the point of the poster who brought up Fox. It is a Fox marketing strategy to make their viewers mistrustful of other media sources, so the other person is correct when they stated that if it isn't Fox, it's considered liberal. And, what better way to have someone who wouldn't normally pick up a "liberal rag" like Newsweek grab themselves a copy than to put the words "Obama critic" and "dumb" in the same sentence? If they're not going to read in order to get information, they sure as heck will read if you insult and tick them off. It got Sarah Palin to chime in on it (enough said).

Anyhow, I have posted a link to the article if you're interested. You'll be surprised that it actually goes after the liberal left-of-Obama crowd (raising my hand here) as well, and although I disagree with his assessment, I'm not in a huff over it, and I certainly don't take the front-page title as an insult like some have.
